After a flat performance on Sunday against the Predators, the Hawks came out with a purpose and put away a 4-2 win against a Dallas Stars team desperate for points as the playoff race continues. Corey Crawford was sharp in the win with 25 saves.
The buzz around the UC was that Teuvo Teravainen would be making his NHL debut. He would get a cheer from the crowd on his first shift, and while he didn’t earn any points in his debut, he made a c...
The Hawks have had trouble with the Nashville Predators all season, and after a reassuring win against the Hurricanes on Friday, went back to square one in a shutout loss agains their division rivals. Pekka Rinne would make 29 saves in a lackluster effort by Chicago, who’s inconsistent play is becoming more concerning as the playoffs approach. The loss dropped Chicago six points behind the division-leading Blues, who earned two more points today in a win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Blues may be atop the Central Division at the moment, but it was their rivals the Hawks that walked away with a victory on Wednesday night at the UC. Corey Crawford woud make 23 saves as the Hawks defeated the league-leading Blues in a 4-0 victory, their first division regulation-loss in the entire season.
The game was fast and physical from start to finish, and it was the Hawks who would get on the board first with a power play blast from...
In their last meeting of the regular season, both the Blackhawks and Avalanche came out flying.
Duncan Keith had the first penalty of the game, a roughing call in front of the Blackhawks' net. The Avalanche put plenty of pressure in Chicago's end, but despite a handful of shots, the closest they got was a goalpost.
Brad Malone put the Avalanche on the board first with 1:36 left in the first, with a sharp-angle shot. Matt Duchene would stretch the lead to 2-0 just 19 seconds into the second period.
Patrick Kane would get the Blackhawks on the board after dancing through the Colorado zone and flipping the puck over Varlamov's shoulder to make it ...
The last time that the Blackhawks and Blue Jackets played each other, the two were Central division rivals. But with realignment, Columbus moved to the Eastern Conference, and the two teams faced each other for the first time this season on Thursday night at the United Center.
There's no reason to think that the Blue Jackets can't make the playoffs. They have been bouncing in and out of wild card contention all season. Since New Year's, Columbus has gone 15-6-1, including an 8-game win streak (January 6-23).
But on Thursday night in Chicago, the Blackhawks beat them solidly, 6-1. The home team dominated in just about every stat that mattered: outshooting ...
The Hawks entered their 6,000 NHL game as a franchise with one goal in mind- to rebound from a rough shootout loss against the Sharks, and they celebrated the occasion by finishing off a series sweep of LA. Patrick Kane would score twice while Corey Crawford was stellar with 31 saves as the Hawks continue their west coast road trip, having earned six out of eight possible points so far.
The honeymoon is officially over for the Chicago Blackhawks.
It was great while it lasted, but gone are the days when the Hawks could score 6 goals or more every night, as they did in three straight games in December. As Chicago approaches the Olympic break just over halfway through the season, they’re starting to look like a mediocre hockey club at best. A delayed Stanley Cup hangover apparently has struck, and created problems that have been made particularly apparent in January:
The Red Wings and the Blackhawks met again on Wednesday night, and though the two teams are now in different conferences and meet just twice a year, the rivalry was as intense as ever. The Red Wings came from behind to secure the win in a thrilling 5-4 SO victory, with Darren Helm scoring the deciding goal in the shootout.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead at 8:41 of the first, when Marian ...
Sometimes, you need your goalie to steal a win for you, and that's what the Colorado Avalanche got out of Semyon Varlamov tonight at the United Center versus the Blackhawks.
Varlamov made 46 of 48 saves (.958 sv%) on a night where the Avs started a player short, and lost a defenseman early in the third. Colorado has a handful of players on IR, including PA Parenteau and Alex Tanguay, but despite that, they've been 5-1-1 in the new year. Their goalie has been a big part of that.
In that same stretch, the Blackhawks have gone just 2-1-4; so their silver lining is that they continue to eke out points in losses and remain in the top three of the Central division....
