Penguins Finally Snap Losing Streak; Suffer Devastating Losses on the Injury Front

After suffering three straight losses to likes of the Colorado Avalanche, the New York Islanders, and the Toronto Maple Leafs the Penguins finally beat the Carolina Hurricanes.

An entire week of losses gave the Penguins their first three game losing streak since the early going of the 2011-2012 season. In the three game losing streak the NHL’s leading point producer, Sidney Crosby, was held to just a single goal and no assists.

To be completely fair in this assessment the Penguins were still impressive in their five on five play. The Pens outshot the competition by an average of 12 shots per game and clearly had an advantage in time of possession, but the club was ...

Two Week Recap; Forwards Edition

In part two of the opening season review we will examine the forwards and their contributions thus far to the season. While some players are keeping to the status quo, a few forwards have started to make their mark on the early season.

Start with the Obvious – The Pittsburgh Penguins top line of Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, and Pascal Dupuis is arguably the strongest line in all of hockey. They have a combined nine goals through six games, seven of which have come while playing five on five hockey.

Here are a few other stats to show how good this line has been. *All statistics are a combined total.

+ 10, 56 shots on net, 24 total points, 8 Takeawas, 28 Hits, 87 Fac...

Under the Cap?

The Pittsburgh Penguins have made some very interesting moves on deadline day and not all of them should be taken at face value.

Derrick Pouliot sent back to Portland Winterhawks – It is not a surprising move in the least, even I predicted this one to come to fruition. Pouliot was simply not ready for the NHL and needed to work on his game at a level in which he was comfortable. This is the best move for his growth as a player and should not spark any controversy about his future with the Penguins.

Beau Bennett sent to Wheeling Nailers – This is nothing more than a cap circumventing move for the Penguins and it likely means that Chuck Kobasew has successfully earne...

Isles Get Manhandled By Pens In Isles' First Playoff Game Since 2007

The Pittsburgh Penguins played like a top seed in this opening game of the Stanley Cup playoff series between Pittsburgh and the New York Islanders tonight in Pittsburgh.

The Pens scored five goals, including two on the power play, to blow by an Islander squad that showed little jump all evening. All of this was done without the Pens having their best player as Sidney Crosby is still recovering from the broken jaw he got on March 30th in a game against the Isles.

We Got'em

Well, the Pittsburgh Penguins have officially acquired Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames. In exchange for the veteran’s experience the Penguins have traded their first round selection in the 2013 entry level draft and unsigned college prospects Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino.

Amid rumors and credited reporting, Jarome Iginla had initially been on his way to Boston. After a tough loss to the Canadiens, Boston fans were rejoicing in emphatic jubilance to have such a revered player help fix whatever ail their team. Twitter erupted with numerous reports on how the trade was won and how Boston has pulled into a virtual (paper champion) tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins after th...

Prospect Week

As free agency continues, it's becoming clear that the Pittsburgh Penguins are not going to be signing any big-name free agents.

The Penguins are going to be developing talent in their system. They're going to find opportunities and no longer search for answers.  This is prospect week for the  Penguins and 34 young guns are ready to showcase their skills in hopes of reaching the NHL.

This new set of prospects is once again something to behold.  Pittsburgh heads into the prospect camp a little short this season as Eric Tangradi wasn't invited.

Tangradi's omission may show that Pittsburgh is ready for him as a full-time player and no lo...
