To P.K. or Not to P.K.? The Subban Question

As another Islander season draws closer to an ending, it’s never too early to start thinking about the future (it’s what we do best on Long Island). Free agency will come and go and big-ticket names will be shuffled around in trades. And the one name hanging out there that appears ripe for the taking, Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban, just so happens to make a heck of a lot of sense for the team in Nassau.

Isles Fans Voice Their Displeasure With Team USA Omitting Kyle Okposo From Their Roster

You really could not have written it up any better for Kyle Okposo's game-winning goal last night against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Just a day after the management personnel of Team USA announced their roster for the Olympic games, choosing to omit Okposo from the competition, KO would come in and score the decisive goal in overtime against the defending Stanley Cup Champions at Nassau Coliseum

Penguins Fall to Senators; Pascal Dupuis’ Season in Jeopardy After Awkward Collision

Despite rattling off victories in 12 of their last 13 games, the Pittsburgh Penguins found a way to look completely flat against an Ottawa Senators team that wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire.

Pittsburgh came into the game skating well. They looked as though they were ready to play.

At 6:54 of the first period, Ottawa Senators forward Zach Smith scored the game winning goal off of a tough, gritty backhand.  The following goals by Bobby Ryan, Erik Karlsson, Kyle Turris, and Cory Conacher  were not necessary, but each were a great display of individual talent excelling through team effort.

Erik Karlsson finished the game with a goal and two as...

Gameday at Ottawa: Questions Will Be Answered On Road Trip

It's been the hot topic the last couple of days: Claude Giroux has finally scored a goal. The next question will be whether or not the struggling captain had awoken from his offensive slumber.

Giroux isn't the only one waking up. The Flyers scored four goals on Saturday, a feat they've only done twice this season. Can they keep it up during this three game road trip? Giroux and the Flyers will answer those question tonight in Ottawa.

Kings vs. Senators Preview

Kings: 1-2-0 (2 points) - Last in Pacific; Last in West - Streak: L2

Senators:1-0-1 (3 points) - Fifth in Atlantic; Eigth in East - Streak: L1(SO)

The Los Angeles Kings host the Ottawa Senators tonight at 7:30 in the Staples Center. The Kings look to capture their first home victory before a four game roadtrip while the Senators begin their western leg continuing their six game road trip.

After a shootout win in Minnesota the Kings have dropped their last two contests by a combined score of 8-4. Their opponent tonight is well balanced with strong goal play from Craig Anderson paired with a high producing scoring potential led by Kyle Turris.

On Ryan and Bernier: Is It Worth the Risk?

On Tuesday, the rumor mill concerning the Philadelphia Flyers blew up.

Not only was it confirmed by ESPN's Pierre LeBrun that forward Danny Briere would be bought out, but conflicting reports about goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov's security with the team surfaced, as well as trade rumors involving Anaheim's Bobby Ryan and Los Angeles' Jonathan Bernier also came to the forefront.

Talk about a crazy day.

All of this coming on the heels of a reported deal struck with the New York Islanders to acquire their former captain Mark Streit. Streit signed a bloated four year pact worth a grand total of $22 million. Following that deal, it signaled change. There is writing on the wall...but for whom?

If, for example, both Briere and Bryzgalov are bought out, that unlocks about $12 million in cap space. The Flyers are currently above the new cap ceiling of $64 million by $7 million. These moves would not afford a ton of room, but it would at least be something.

Rimer: Danny Briere Will Be Bought Ought; Ilya Bryzgalov Will Not

The Flyers rumor mill has been churning out some good ones the past couple of days.

But now it appears there may be some truth and answers.

Josh Rimer has confirmed that the Flyers plan to buyout forward Danny Briere. As for the status of their Russian netminder, it appears that he will be in the orange and black for another season.

Rimer also confirmed that Ilya Bryzgalov will not be bought out. Rimer said that Rich Winters, Bryzgalov's agent, was told by general manager Paul Holmgren that Bryzgalov will not be bought out.

Game Preview: Showdown in Anaheim

Preview: There could be a lot on the line for tonight’s Southern California battle. The Kings (22-13-3; 47 points) make the short trip to Anaheim to take on the Ducks (25-8-5; 55 points) tonight at 6. Tonight’s contest marks the final ten games in the season for both teams. Los Angeles currently sits in second place in the Pacific Division trailing the Ducks by eight points. The Kings final game against Anaheim will be next Saturday at the Staples Center.

Since the winner of each division is reserved a top three seed for the playoffs winning the Pacific Division provides plenty of advantages. A chance to pick up two points on the Ducks and set the ton...
