Before the puck even dropped to start the game, an unpleasant surprise happened for the Blackhawks: winger Marian Hossa was a last-minute scratch when he was injured during warmups. Rookie Ben Smith filled his spot on the roster, and Coach Joel Quenneville started his line shake-ups early, looking for some fresh chemistry against the Bruins.
The problems that have plagued Chicago this series are not new; some of them stretch back over the past two seasons. The team struggling to enter the offensive zone on power plays is a big one. They also continue to lack any net-front presence, not really forcing the opposing goalie to work for the big saves and early dirty goals. Individua...
The series is a long way from over, now down to a best-of-five, as the Blackhawks and Bruins head to Boston tied 1-1.
Before the series started, the series could be argued in favor of either team, although many hockey folks seemed to favor the Bruins. "Zdeno Chara will shut them down," "Tuukka Rask is riding a hot streak" - as if that was all it would take.
Both Chara and Rask have showed themselves to be human and beatable in the first two games. The first game (an instant classic, with three overtimes) displayed both sides of Rask. In that game, Chicago scored four goals on the Finnish netminder - twice as many as the Penguins had managed in an ...
After coming off of that marathon game on Wednesday night the Chicago Blackhawks came out in the first period on fire and thoroughly dominated the Bruins. The Shots were 19-4 in favor of the Hawks. The unfortunate thing is they only had one goal to show for all their efforts.
The goal was scored by Patrick Sharp after a flurry of shots were blasted at the Bruins netminder with Tuukka Rask down Sharp was able to get the puck past him for the Hawks lone goal of the night. The Hawks team speed was evident in the first period as they were much faster than the Bruins.
There was another goal that was disallowed due to the whistle being blown. Whether it was t...
The Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks are set to square off in the first Original Six finals match-up since 1979. The Blackhawks, who were heavily favorited to go all the way after starting the season with points in their first 24 straight games, had a difficult time in the semi-finals against the Red Wings but were able to recover and skate their way into the finals for the second time in four years and face a tough, streaking team in the Boston Bruins. As the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks prepare to face off against one another in Chicago on Wednesday night, let's take a look at both teams by their playoff numbers thus far.
Boston has had 22 players dress in 16 games. Their top two scorers (Krejci and Horton) are not their top regular season scorers. (Their top scorers, in order, during the regular season were Marchand , Krejci/Seguin/Bergeron ). There is a gap in production after those two, although the next four top scorers (Marchand, Lucic, Bergeron, Chara) are much closer in scoring. The Bruins have 6 players with an average TOI of over 20:39; their highest is Chara with 29:21, who plays 5:11 more/gam...

After Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli announced following his team's 2-1 Game 6 loss at the hands of the Maple Leafs last night that their airplane had malfunctioned forcing the team to stay an extra night in Toronto, fans in Ontario's capital city began to rejoice.
As if they hadn't already been rejoicing.
In what was an extremely entertaining contest, the Maple Leafs shocked the hockey world by defeating the Bruins in Game 6 to force their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal s...
BOSTON -- Here we are: the Toronto Maple Leafs' first do or die game in nine years. If they defeat the Boston Bruins tonight, they live to play one more game. If they lose, it will be time to hit the golf course.
Let the jokes begin.
In all seriousness, this game is a big one for the city of Toronto and fans of the Maple Leafs. The last time people were so invested in the Blue and White was when the team sat above the Eastern Conference standings early in the 2011-2012 season only to crash and burn to a 13th place finish. Fans hope the team will come away with a better result but history isn't o...
The New York Islanders will take on the Boston Bruins at 7pm at the TD Garden in Boston. The Islanders (20-16-4) are looking to continue their success in the most serious playoff push the team has had in years, going 7-1-1 in their last 9 games.
Despite their recent point streak that has carried the Isles into the top 8 in the East, the Bruins (26-9-4) have been no walk in the park for the New York club this season. The Northeast Division leaders have won both meetings between the two this season and have outscored the Isles 8-3. (Photo Credit: Hazboy/Flickr)
