Blackhawks take 5-1 road win over Wild; prepare to face Sens on Tuesday

Saturday night at the United Center, the Wild outplayed the Blackhawks 5-3. Goalie Niklas Bäckström, who still isn't 100% after a recent knee injury, collected the win. That night, the Blackhawks looked like they were nursing a Cup hangover, with sloppy play and lackluster play.

The Wild were down almost half a dozen players, and after being knocked out of the 2013 playoffs 4 games to 1 by Chicago, the game had to be a confidence-builder for them.

Chicago (6-2-3, 15 points) entered Monday's tilt just one spot ahead of the Wild (6-3-3, 15 points) in the Central division.

Minnesota outshot the Blackhawks in the first period - a trend that would con...

Hawks find their game as they down the Maple Leafs 3-1

On an emotional night for several reasons, the Blackhawks finally found the game that they have been looking for so far this young season.  They played a solid two-way game, got their offense going, utilized their team speed, and dictated the game.

The game was a Hockey Fights Cancer night, and could not have opened more emotionally when the Blackhawks took five local area children who are all battling cancer on the blue line with them during the national anthems.

There was also an honorary puck drop with one of the children between Dave Bolland and Patrick Kane, with both gentlemen giving their sticks to the nine-year old and reminding us all that there are continu...

Blackhawks face the Buffalo Sabres

The Blackhawks prepare to face an unfamiliar Eastern Conference opponent. The last time the Hawks faced the Buffalo Sabres was back in 2012. This will be the first of two meetings this season between these two clubs.

The Buffalo Sabres are winless to this point with a 0-4-1 record which, could make them a very dangerous team if the Hawks overlook them or the dislike level is too low considering they have not faced each other much.

The Sabres come into this tilt with scoring problems as they are just averaging one goal a game. If that continues then the Blackhawks should be in good shape. You can never discount the Sabres however with Ryan Miller in net for Buffalo. Look for Co...

Blackhawks win 3-2 over Islanders; prepare for first back-to-back games

After giving up two goals to the Islanders in the final minute of the first period, Friday night's game was at risk of going the direction of the Blackhawks' last two games.

Coach Joel Quenneville's line blender was on frappé after two tough losses; but the new lines produced.

The scoring started with Blackhawks rookie Joakim Nordström, who tallied his first NHL goal 9:32 into the first period. Jonathan Toews would push the score to 2-0 at 16:05, gathering a rebound off Duncan Keith's shot, which had deflected behind the Islanders' goal.

Josh Bailey would get the Islanders on the scoresheet at 19:06 in the first; Kyle Okposo would fol...

Three Players That Should Make The Blackhawks Roster

The Chicago Blackhawks start the defense of their Stanley Cup on Oct. 1 against the Washington Capitals. Recently, the team made some cuts to get the roster closer to the desired number of players the team will take into the season. A lot of the players who won’t make the team will either be sent to Rockford or to their respective junior league teams to get more seasoning.

Here are three players I believe will make the team out of camp. These are players who have done all they could do in Rockford. Now,  these players deserve a chance to make the team. During training camp and the preseason games these players have shown that they belong.

IceHogs Interview: Pirri & Morin

The Rockford IceHogs are at a crucial point of their schedule, with only four games left in the regular season and every point critical to determining which teams will make the playoff cut.  The IceHogs are 38-31-79 on the season, with a division rivalry matchup against the Chicago Wolves tonight to heat up the BMO Harris Bank center for Fan Appreciation Night.

Round 1: Blackhawks edge Red Wings, 3-2

Five more of those please!

The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings put on sixty minutes of playoff-like hockey in front of a season high 22,166 at the United Center Friday night and the Hawks prevailed in the end with a 3-2 victory.

For sixty minutes, it seemed as though the only stoppages in play were for the two intermissions. The game opened with five or six minutes of continuous, back-and-forth action before the first whistle was ever blown.

Justin Abdelkader gave the Red Wings the early lead half-way through the first period after a big rebound was given up by Hawks goalie Corey Crawford. It seemed to sit there in the slot forever after the initial Drew Miller ...

An Original Six matchup in Chicago tonight

Tonight at the United Center, the Blackhawks will host a classic Original Six matchup against the Montréal Canadiens. These teams have only met up once a year - and not even every season - over the past several years. Next season, fans will get to see them twice a season, which will be a great addition to the schedule.

In the meantime, despite a loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, the Blackhawks still sit atop the standings with 46 points. The struggling Canadiens are on the low side of the bubble for the playoffs watch (33 pts); they just fired their coach Jacques Martin last Saturday, with Randy Cunneyworth currently handling coaching duties for the team.
