Game Preview: Flames vs Montreal Canadiens

Two struggling teams meet at the Dome tonight as the Flames and Montreal Canadiens finish off their season series in their second meeting. The Flames took the first game, in Montreal, 4-1 as Miikka Kiprusoff became the all-time franchise leader in goaltender wins, surpassing Mike Vernon. The Flames come into tonight’s match-up after another heart breaking loss to the Dallas Stars, 3-2 in a SO on Sunday afternoon. The Canadiens on the other hand only have pride to play for at this point as they will look to play spoilers the rest of the way, sitting in 15th place in the Eastern Conference.

Flames Summer Might Bring Huge Change

Flames summer issues, will they include a new coach? A new goalie? What it may take to get a deal done.

Game Preview: Flames vs Dallas Stars

Every game is important for the Flames at this point but tonight’s contest against the Stars is pretty much their season. This will be the second of four meetings between the clubs with the Stars taking the first meeting on Feb. 16th 3-2 in overtime. That meeting sent the two teams on two separate paths. Before that February meeting, the Flames held a 3 point lead over the Stars but with a 2-3-3 stretch, the Flames now find themselves 4 points back of the Stars for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Stars have been red hot since then going 6-1-2 and are current on a six game point streak (5-0-1). Make note this game is a 4 pm start.

Game Preview: Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

Life for the Calgary Flames doesn’t get any easier tonight as they head into Anaheim to face the Ducks, to conclude their mini two-game road trip. The Flames return to Anaheim for the second time this season, a place where they haven’t won since 2004, going 0-9-5 during that stretch. This is the third of four meetings between the two clubs, as they have split the first two games, each winning on home ice. Both teams are scratching and clawing, trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Flames, after their victory in Phoenix last night, got within two points of the 8th place Dallas Stars, while the Ducks currently sit 7 points back.

Game Preview: Flames vs Phoenix Coyotes

When hot meets cold something has to give, that is the case tonight as the struggling Flames head into Phoenix to face the red-hot Coyotes. This is the third of four meetings between the clubs, with Phoenix taking the first two games including a 4-3 SO victory last Thursday at the Dome. The Flames squandered a 2-0 first period lead and lost their second of their current 4-game skid. The Coyotes probably don’t want February to end as they went a remarkable 11-0-1 and jumped from 12th in the West to 3rd and leading the Pacific Division. Tonight’s game in Phoenix, kicks-off a mini 2-game road trip for the Flames as they will head into Anaheim tomorrow night. The Flames will also look to snap their current 6-game losing streak against the Coyotes.

Flames Sing the Blues

The Flames looked really bad against the St Louis Blues and lost again -- their fourth straight.

They will continue to fall further out of the playoff race if they cant turn this around quickly.

Feaster stood pat on TDD. Players should have been relieved. Instead the team looked frustrated and befuddled

Deadline Dud

Today's Trade Deadline couldn't have been more boring as only 15 deals were struck with the biggest one coming from the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres which saw Cody Hodgson and Zach Kassian swapped jerseys. The Trade Deadline day I will say is over-hyped but it has been proven to be one of the most important days in the NHL season, as smart teams have added the right pieces and have went on to win Stanley Cups.

I get excited every year for the Trade Deadline and I don't think that will change anytime soon. Now that is over, here are today's winners and losers.

Game Preview: Flames vs St. Louis Blues

The Flames and Blues head into the dome tonight for a game probably not many fans have had their mind on all day. Both the Flames and Blues decided to stay pat, as neither one made a single trade today. Regardless there is a game to be played and more importantly two points on the line. The Blues have been one of the surprises this season, not the fact that they are in the playoff race but more of the fact that the Blues are competing with the Red Wings for the Central Division crown as they sit just two points back. The Flames on the other hand are trying to just prove that they are a playoff team as they are currently on a 3 game skid and sit 3 points back of the 8th place Dallas Stars.

The Most Over-Hyped, Over-Analyzed Day of the Year

Greger Buer looks at why Trade Deadline Day has become to most over hyped day on the NHL calender and why the Flames didn't do anything today, but have made moves in the past three months that made up for it.
