Game Preview: Islanders Begin the Season in Carolina

FINALLY.

The New York Islanders begin their 2014-15 season tonight against their Metropolitan Division rival, Carolina Hurricanes, in the first of a back to back home-and-home. Tonight’s contest ends the 6 month slumber for Islander fans and begins the 43rd, and final, season of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. But tonight isn’t about that. Tonight is about the present and the commencement of New York Islanders quest for a 5th Stanley Cup Championship.

So Who's in Net? The Isles' Goalie Dilemma

Below is a collection of names that will either be free agents or that could be in play via the trade market. One item to note is that with many of these names, there is a reason why they are available. That is not to say they are bad or wouldn’t represent an upgrade over the current three-headed monster the Islanders have used this year (for a laugh, check out the league’s goalie leaders and scroll to the bottom of the list).

Pregame 3/25/14: Isles Head South to Battle Carolina

The New York Islanders hit the road to Raleigh, North Carolina to face the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night, kicking off a mini two-game road trip. The series between the two has been all Carolina since the beginning of the 2012/13 season as the Hurricanes have won all 6 matchups. The Islanders will try to snap the skid while also pulling into a .500 record on the road this season Tuesday night. Each of the previous three games this season have been decided by one goal, the latest coming back in January at the Coliseum, a 3-2 Carolina victory. (Photo credit: Jonathan_Hawkins/flickr).

Where Are They Now? Rick DiPietro

This week we check in on what former Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro is doing with his hockey career after the Islanders bought out his 15 year contract this summer.

Isles Lose Game to 'Canes, Top D-Man Visnovsky to Concussion

The Islanders began the first 39 minutes of the game against their divison foe Carolina Hurricanes, by playing weak, uninspired and just plain bad hockey. They ended up finishing the contest with some fight, but it ended up being too little too late as they fell to the 'Canes by a final of 4-3 in front of 13,008 fans at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

Pregame 10/19: Islanders vs. Hurricanes

The Islanders home stand continues tonight as they welcome a new division rival, the Carolina Hurricanes to Nassau Coliseum for the first time this season. This will be the first of 4 meetings between the two teams and the first of 2 on Long Island.

Blackhawks get 3-2 shootout win over Carolina

The Blackhawks once again leapt out to a lead over their opponent ... and once again, let their opponents back into the game, survived overtime, and managed a win in the shootout.

It's been an all-too-common refrain for the Blackhawks, not only this season, which is less than 10 games old, but from past seasons: Chicago delivers a solid first period, hits cruise control in the second, and scrambles to not give the game away in the third.

Is it a cycle that will stop any time soon? The Blackhawks should know from experience that as defending Stanley Cup champs, every opposing team will bring their "A" game, every single night.

Additionally, un...

Blackhawks prepare for the Carolina Hurricanes

The Blackhawks will travel to Carolina to once again face an Eastern Conference team that they have not seen since 2011. They will also be facing a team that would love nothing better than to say they beat the champs.

The Carolina Hurricanes are coming into the contest with a 2-2-2 record and fresh off of back to back losses from the sticks of the LA Kings and most recently the Phoenix Coyotes.

During the Phoenix game starting goalie Anton Khudobin had to leave the game due to a lower body injury on a fluke play when he left his net to play a puck and seemed to twist awkwardly.  Cam Ward will no doubt be in net for the Canes.  For the Hawks don’t be surpr...

Gameday at Carolina: Flyers Looking For First Win

The Flyers are looking for their first win of the season. Playing in the second half of a back-to-back road trip, Philadelphia faces another talented goalie in Cam Ward.

Collapsing Canes Host Fallen Flyers

A battle of two teams out of the playoff picture happens tonight in Raleigh, NC. What will the storyline be? Will both teams play for pride? Steve Mason gets the start for the Flyers as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
