Winning Streak Finally Comes to a Halt Against Montréal

Detroit’s winning streak ends at 7 tonight when the Wings fall short in a 7 to 2 loss against the Montréal Canadiens. Was it because the Wings were lacking their trusty captain Nicklas Lidstrӧm? You decide.

First Period: It took about five minutes for a point to get on the scoreboard and that point was not a Red Wings point as hoped for. Montréal had the first point with a goal by Bourque. Five minutes later, Emelin scores his first goal and gives Montréal a 2 to 0 lead over the Wings. Within the last ten minutes of the first period, Montréal’s Desharnais and Plekanec both scored. Detroit had a couple power play chances, but could ...

The Long Road Trip Starts in Montreal

Two of the most storied franchises in NHL history. A match up between Original Six teams. The final game before the All-Star break. All of these factors culminate in what might be one of the more underrated games in the season.

As the first half of the season has shown, these teams certainly don't have much in common at this point.

The Red Wings (8-2-0) are sitting on top of the NHL with a seven-game win streak, and 17 consecutive victories at home, a franchise record. They haven't been the strongest team on the road, but the momentum they have right now can only be easing that pain.

The Canadiens (4-4-2) are 12th in the Eastern conference and are trying to get o...

Raphael Diaz Will Join Carey Price at All-Star Weekend

Carey Price won't have to travel alone to Ottawa this weekend, for this year's edition of the All-Star Game Festivities.

We all expected the franchise goaltender to be named to the team as the Habs' represenatitive, and he was. But many speculated there was an outside chance that one of the Habs' several rookies would be joining him.

As you may very well know, on top of the 42 players that will be particating in the actual All-Star Game on Sunday, the league also selects twelve rookies to join those players for the Skills Competition the night before. Adam Larsson of the New Jersey Devils has arguably been the best rookie defenseman this season, and he wa...

Canadiens Fall to Penguins Heading Into Game Day: Montreal @ Toronto

Pittsburgh Penguins 5 - 4 Montreal Canadiens (SO)

The Montreal Canadiens paid a visit to the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins. After finding themselves up 4-2 to start the third, the Canadiens had trouble holding the lead, and ended up with a 5-4 shootout loss.

The first period opened up with Lars Eller scoring his ninth of the season just 34 seconds into the first period, giving the Canadiens an early lead. The rough stuff started soon after as Max Paciorett...

Habs Drop Bruins' Matchup 2-1, Trade Cammalleri Mid-Game

The Montreal Canadiens managed once again to keep the focus away from the game being played, in what this time seems to be one of the more shocking and puzzling twists to a 2-1 loss against the Bruins in recent history.

Boston opened the scoring off a strange play, as a clearing attempt meant for the stanchion took an unexpected bounce and wound up in the Canadiens' net off the stick of Jordan Caron with just 1:23 having elapsed in the game. Caron had just been recalled from the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence earlier in the day.

Not a goal was scored until early in the thi...

Game Day: Canadiens @ Bruins

The Montreal Canadiens will be in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday evening for another heated showdown with the rival Boston Bruins. These two teams are on complete opposite ends of the standings, with the Bruins, who have won ten of their last twelve games, sitting pretty at the top of the Northeastern Conference. The Canadiens have only won four of their last twelve games, are sitting dead last in the conference, and sixteen points behind the Bruins.

That being said, games between these two bitter rivals are always unpredictable. While logic would dicta...

New Years Eve Tradition - Habs Lose Again

New Years Eve tradition continues for Les former Glorieux. For as long as I can remember the Habs have played a game on New Years Eve. Up until a few years ago the Habs played the Flames in Calgary. Lately they have been on a southern swing during the week between Christmas and New Years ending in Sunrise Florida. This one had some promise as the only former Habs goalie that does not play like the reincarnation of Georges Vezina was starting in nets for the Panthers - Jose (Three-or-more) Theodore.

The first period started off okay for the Habs, scoring the first goal of the game. On a shot from Travis Moen on a pass from Lars Eller and Tomas Kaberle just over five and a half ...

Game Day: Canadiens @ Panthers

The Montreal Canadiens finish up a six-game road trip in Sunrise, Florida tonight as they face the Panthers in the BankAtlantic Center. This road-trip has been a miserable one for the Canadiens, as they have dropped four out of five games so far. Tonight they will try to end 2011 with a win, something that hasn't come easy to them this season.

In seasons past, this game might be an easy win for the Canadiens, but not this year. This year, the Canadiens (14-17-7) have been around the bottom of the Eastern Conference for the majority of the season. Meanw...

Canadiens Snap Losing Streak in Ottawa

A short break over Christmas seems to be just what the Montreal Canadiens needed, as they bounced back in a big way with a 6-2 win over the eighth place Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. After a five game losing streak the Habs finally won a game, giving interim head coach Randy Cunneyworth his first victory as the man in charge behind the Canadiens bench.

The first period began with the Senators controlling the game for the most part. Just two minutes in they jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Zach Smith. The lead didn't last for long thoug...

Game Day: Devils @ Canadiens

The New Jersey Devils are in town tonight to face-off against the Montreal Canadiens for the second time in a week. The Devils are currently riding a three-game win streak that they will be looking to add to, while the Canadiens squad will hope to bounce back after a heart-breaking 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday

The big story heading in to a game between the Devils and Canadiens is usually about how Martin Brodeur unstoppable in the Bell Centre. While that may be true, something else is stealing the headlines on this day.
