Keith Aucoin Is Making An Early Impression On The Island

It's early. The season is only four games old for the New York Islanders, who have come out of the gate with a 2-2-0 record. And although he has four assists on the year, it hasn't been John Tavares who has been scoring the majority of the goals (Photo Credit: MR_53/Flickr).

Keith Aucoin, who is tied for first on the team in goals with Michael Grabner, is slowly emerging as this year's key pick up by GM Garth Snow.

Grabner is expected to be on the score sheet after scoring 20-plus goals over his first two years with the Islanders. But Aucoin has only played 106 NHL games and only had the first two-goal game of his career last night against the Boston Bruins.

Islanders prospect Anders Lee

Lee, the Islanders 6th round pick (154th overall) of the 2009 NHL entry draft, is a center on a very good Fighting Irish team. The 6'3" 227 pound Edina, Minnesota native is a junior for the 7th ranked Notre Dame squad.

Top Isles Prospect Nino Niederreiter Seeking Trade

According to Katie Strang of ESPN, New York Islanders prospect Nino Niederreiter is seeking a trade from the organization.

Niederreiter has currently been playing for the Isles farm team affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers after dressing for 55 games with the Islanders during the 2011-2012 season. While in the NHL, Niederreiter scored one goal and was a -29. He primarily played on the fourth line with Jay Pandolfo and Tim Wallace (Photo Credit: Robert Kowal/Flickr).

He has arguably been the best player for the Sound Tigers this year. In 39 games played he has scored 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points. He also leads the team with 122 shots on goal and eight power play points.

New York Islanders Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Islanders face off against The Tampa Bay Lightning at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 1 p.m.

The Islanders look to rebound from Saturday's opening night loss on home ice to the New Jersey Devils. The Devils beat the Islanders 2-1 behind strong goaltending from Martin Brodeur and some timely offense from Illya Kovalchuk, Travis Zajac and David Clarkson.

Devils vs. Islanders 1/19/13: Isles Open Up At Home

The 2012-13 NHL season commences today, with 13 games in total taking place. More importantly, the New York Islanders will have their fourth consecutive home-opener against last season's Eastern Conference Champions, the New Jersey Devils.

Unfortunately, the Isles haven't won on opening night since 2007. Last October, they gave the new Winnipeg Jets their first win in 2-0 shutout. (Photo Credit: IslesPunkFan/Flickr)

Isles Training Camp News & Notes

Day one of training camp for The New York Islanders has been completed as plenty of familiar faces took to the ice today to either look to impress the coaching staff, or get back into game shape.

However, one player who was not at camp was defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky.

Visnovsky has made it clear that he wants to remain with his team in the KHL, which is unsettling for Isles fans as well as his teammates. Arthur Staple of Newsday's recent report from camp today had quotes from some of the Islanders, including general manager Garth Snow, that indicated their displeasure with his actions (Photo Credit: bridgetds/Flick).

The Wait Is Over, Islanders Hockey Is Back

Many NHL fans were clamoring for both Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman to be locked in a room without the option of leaving until a new CBA deal was agreed upon. That is basically what took place last night.

Several months later, a 16-hour negotiating process that ended around 5 AM Sunday morning resulted in a new CBA that is in the process of being ironed out on paper. The deal is a 10-year agreement with an opt-out clause that is available at eight years (Photo credit: shot7photos/Flickr).

Sound Tigers - Swedish Line Chemistry

A streak is not a streak until it reaches two games and the Sound Tigers have just suffered their first losing streak of the season, this one a three gamer. Last seasons’ Division Championship winner endured two such three gamers, a four, a five and a six game swoon before they captured the title.

Though still ahead of last year’s pace (20 pts. after 17 games vs. 18 in 2011) this recent streak has caught the attention of the otherwise idle Isles organization brass.

Niederreiter - Leading The Sound Tigers

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are off to their best start since the 2008-09 season and while some of this early season success can be attributed to the ‘influx of NHL talent’ that every team is enjoying, there are other subtle benefits that this current NHL forced lockout has provided and the Sound Tigers are taking full advantage.

Simulation: DiPietro Leads Isles To Two Wins; Lose Streit and Nabokov

Rick DiPietro needed to fill in for an injured Evgeni Nabokov and led the Islanders to two straight wins.
