Blackhawks take a bite out of the Sharks

The Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks last faced off in San Jose in early December, a tight 3-2 OT win. Before that was the 0-1 loss in San Jose the night before Thanksgiving, a game which saw Chicago battling back after suffering a crushing - and humiliating - 9-2 loss to Edmonton a few nights before.

Since that time, Chicago has played well enough to land themselves in constant competition for the number one position in the West. Likewise, the Sharks have finally found some smoother sailing after rough patches to start the season, and have now clawed their way to the top of the struggling Pacific division. Of course, they still have ex-Blackhawk (and Cup-winning) Antti Niemi sig...

Detroit's Next 12 Games Present Golden Opportunity

The Red Wings currently sit 3 points behind division and conference leader Chicago with two games in hand,1 point behind St. Louis with equal games played and 3 points ahead of Nashville. They are trying to improve on a middling road record (11-13-0) while maintaining a league best home record (17-2-1). It is highly unlikely any of the top 4 teams in the Central will stop challenging for the division title barring a rash of injuries.

Detroit's performance over the next 12 games has the potential to help them overtake their division rivals, give them a small cushion in the standings, gain ground in the fight for home advantage throughout the playoffs and reestablish their road ga...

Hawks can’t clip Wings fall 3-2 in OT

It seems every time the Blackhawks play the Detroit Red Wings something big is at stake. Today’s game was no exception and with the big lights of the national stage shining as well. There’s nothing like a little Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyk in the morning. Forget Saturday morning cartoons give me Saturday morning NHL hockey. I hoped the Blackhawks all had their coffee with an early 11:30 puck drop but I don’t think they did.

The Blackhawks will be battling these Red Wings along with the St. Louis Blues all the way until the end of the season for supremacy in the Central. Every game these two play will be vital. This was the first meeting on the Red Wing...

Wings Go For 14th Straight Home Win on the 14th

With Friday the 13th in the past, Detroit faces off against Chicago today on home ice for a nationally televised matinee. The Wings are coming off a 3-2 comeback victory against Phoenix that was Mike Babcock's 400th win and Jimmy Howard's 100th. Detroit seeks to tie their franchise record for consecutive home wins set during the 1964-65 season. Only two points separate the teams, with St. Louis sitting in between them.

The two previous games have been just as close as their place in the standings with both being decided 3-2. Chicago won once in regulation and Detroit won last week in overtime. Today's game should be no different.

The Blackhawks' are missing sco...

Blackhawks Aim to Clip Wings

One might say that things are "pretty even" between the Chicago Blackhawks and their division neighbors, the Detroit Red Wings.

They're so even, in fact, that the Blackhawks only hold a slight edge over the Motor City by two points in the standings and Detroit has one game in hand.

The two teams will meet for the third time this season in Detroit tomorrow at 11:30 AM CT, after splitting the first two games this season, both resulting in a final score of 3-2.

Neither team has played exceptionally well over the last ten games - the Hawks have performed at a mediocre 5-4-1, while the Red Wings haven't faired much better at 6-4. Both teams are trying to put...

Blackhawks Tame Wild; Reclaim Division

And that, folks, is how good teams battle through adversity.

Despite missing star scoring winger, Patrick Sharp, to injury, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild last night with a determined 5-2 victory at the United Center. With the win, Chicago moves back into first place in their division with 57 points.

The Blackhawks overcame this adversity with substantial help from their rookies, as both Andrew Shaw and Jimmy Hayes potted goals for Chicago en route to the win.

Improving his record this season to 10-3-2, Ray Emery stopped 21 of 23 shots in the win, as he out-dueled Minnesota goaltender Josh Harding, who was chased after allowing four...

Game preview: Getting Wild in Chicago

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks last met up on a rainy day in mid-December in St. Paul. The Blackhawks came away with a shoot out win, with Patrick Kane providing a memorable goal to seal the win.

It was the second game in an eight-game losing streak for the Wild; including being shut out 0-4 by the Canucks on Vancouver ice. The Wild have had just 2 wins in their past 13 games; their record in that stretch is 2-8-3. It is a far cry from the 20-7-3 that Minnesota started the season with; and the Wild has plunged from first in the West to 7th, hanging on ahead of the rising Los Angeles Kings. The Wild has been hurt by injuries; Clayton Stoner just returned to the roster...

Stalberg nets hat trick, Hawks beat Blue Jackets 5-2

It wasn't necessarily pretty, but it was a badly needed victory for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks were able to overcome 42 penalty minutes to snap a 4-game losing streak and earn their first win of 2012.

Things did not start out well for the Blackhawks. They were outshot 11-5 in a scoreless first period and experienced their biggest scare of the season to date.

A Duncan Keith slap shot was deflected off the skate of a diving Blue Jacket and connected right on the left temple of Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. Toews immediately lost his balance and fell head-first into the post. To add insult to injury, the puck richocheted off Toews, then off the post and...

Blackhawks look to turn their fortunes taking on Columbus Blue Jackets

Everybody at some point in their lives must go through a spell when things just do not seem to go your way. Maybe it’s poor luck or missteps with your timing or bad news one receives. We all have experienced this or had patches when you might not feel like yourself and things just are a little askew. The Blackhawks are now in one of these patches and are looking oddly enough for their first win in 2012.

The Blackhawks are coming into this game having lost their last four games. To make matters even worse they have also lost their sharpshooter Patrick Sharp for the next 3-4 weeks. He is second on the team behind Jonanthan Toews in goals scored with twe...

Hawks Bounce Flat in Loss to Wings

The Chicago Blackhawks just got a little too cautious at the end of the game last night against the Detroit Red Wings leading 2-1 with less than five minutes to play in the third period.

In only their second season matchup against division rival, Detroit, the Blackhawks were looking to break out of a 3 game slump that started on January 2nd, 2012, only to extend it with a 3-2 overtime loss against their "neighbors" to the east. Detroit backup goalie, Ty Conklin stopped 29 of 31 Chicago shots for the win, while Corey Crawford finished the night stopping 24 of 27.

The Blackhawks got off to a great start scoring two goals within the first five minutes of th...
