Headliner showdown: Blackhawks vs Penguins

The Chicago Blackhawks (22-9-1) go into Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening to face the Penguins with a 7-0-1 record in December, and looking to collect their sixth straight road win. Not counting preseason match-ups, Chicago and Pittsburgh usually only face off once per year, so there's always anticipation around their games.

As the Blackhawks continue their hot streak of games, the team has gained a lot of confidence, and it is showing in their play. Solid, consistent effort across all three periods is becoming more frequent, and Sunday night's game saw the fourth line chipping in offensively as well. The team has consistently flirted with the top spot in the league and cur...

Blackhawks stay hot to beat Flames 4-2- lose Seabrook

The Chicago Blackhawks were coming into Sunday's match coming off of a hot streak. The Hawks have been playing much better defensively and the results are showing.  The Hawks have won their last four games and were looking to extend that streak to five. The Calgary Flames coming into the United Center off of three straight tough one goal losses were looking to rebound.

If the Hawks didn’t have enough incentive after being embarrassed in Calgary in their last outing, they needed to win this game to stay ahead of the Minnesota Wild for the lead in the Western Conference and the league. They also need to stay ahead of those pesky Detroit Red Wings who won on...

Blackhawks Look to Extend Points Streak vs Flames

Having taken points from each of their last seven games, the Chicago Blackhawks will look to continue that success against a recently surging Calgary Flames club tonight at the United Center.

The Chicago Blackhawks come into this game with an impressive 20-8-4 overall record and 8-1-1 in their last ten games. The Calgary Flames, however, hold a mediocre 14-14-4 overall record so far this year, but more recently carry and formidable 5-2-3 record in their last ten games.

The Calgary Flames overall record is a reflection of just about every aspect of their team. They sit in the middle of the pack when it comes to goals for (80), goals against (88), and special teams. When you'...

Ducks get cut by the Razor as the Chicago Blackhawks beat Ducks 4-1

At this rate Corey Crawford may never get back into the Blackhawks net as Ray Emery was brilliant in the Hawks goal again. It would be easy for the Hawks to have let up in this game facing the lowly Anaheim Ducks (9-16-5) not only did that not happen I think they may have played one of their most complete games.

The Ducks have a new coach behind the bench in former Washington Capital coach Bruce Boudreau who would like to inject some life into the Ducks offence. Anaheim came in with an anemic offense ranking dead last in the league with shots on goal and 28th in the league with goals scored in the NHL. I thought the Hawks would have to watch Teemu Selanne who always see...

Hawks Host Grounded Ducks

The Chicago Blackhawks get set to square off for the third time this season against their distant neighbors from the west coast when they host the Anaheim Ducks tonight at the United Center.

The last meeting between the Blackhawks and the Ducks saw Hawks' captain Jonathan Toews carry his team to a rallying 6-5 win with his 5 point effort. Anaheim will look to avoid the same fate tonight and stay on the winning path after a 4-1 victory over Phoenix.

Overall, however, the coaching change in Anaheim has yielded inconsequential results.

The Anaheim Ducks possess a lowly 9-16-5 overall record, good for 2nd to last in the Western Conference. Ryan Getzlaf hasn'...

Hawks Keep Rolling With 4-3 SO Win Over Wild

The magical mits of Patrick Kane provided the insurance tally to Jonathan Toews' game winning shoot out goal in capturing two points for the Chicago Blackhawks against the Minnesota Wild last night.

Kane put on a clinic with his dazzling puck dance, sending Niklas Backstrom into a spiral of confusion, as he put away the game-ending goal to give Chicago the 4-3 victory past regulation. Jonathan Toews scored the only other shoot out goal to win it for Chicago.

Marian Hossa, Michael Frolik and Jonathan Toews all scored in regulation, as Chicago won its third game in a row and is now 7-2-1 in its last ten games.

Fans got just what was to be expected from the W...

Battle of the Best in the West

Just over eight months ago, the Minnesota Wild made all the difference in the world to the Chicago Blackhawks.

On the afternoon of April 10th, the Blackhawks lost at home to the Detroit Red Wings in game 82 of their season. Although the Blackhawks held a 2-point lead over the Dallas Stars in the standings, everybody - from the fans right through to the players - assumed the season was over. Minnesota hadn't been playing well; the Wild had been out of the playout race for several games. All the Stars needed to do was beat the Wild - and, tied at 97 points with Chicago, the tiebreaker would put Dallas, not the Blackhawks, into the playoffs.

Everybody wrote off the Wild - tha...

What to do with Johan?

Lost in the goalie mix since the 2011 playoffs is Johan Backlund?

Backlund started one game for the Flyers in March 2010 and left after two periods due to a groin injury. He was out until the playoffs where during the second round comeback against Boston. He played just over one minute of game action in relief of Brian Boucher.

In 2010-11, Backlund spent most of the season as the Phantoms starter, before Michael Leighton arrived in January via waivers.

This season, he was part of a three goalie rotation with the Phantoms with Leighton and Jason Bacashihua before suffering a hip injury in November.

Blackhawks win over struggling Sharks 3-2 in OT

The Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks battled it out for a 0-1 game in California at Thanksgiving. Since that game, the Sharks had gone 2-5-0, including being shut out twice on the road (Kings; Blues). In the same stretch, Chicago went 5-1-1.

San Jose came into Sunday night's game as the 3rd game in 4 days, on the heels of Saturday’s 0-1 loss in St. Louis, while Chicago had only played twice in the past six days, with their last game being Thursday night on Long Island.

Given these circumstances, one might guess that Chicago would have looked like the more dominant team, not just to open the game but throughout the 60 minutes.

However, after their us...

Blackhawks face old teammate as they take on the San Jose Sharks

The Chicago Blackhawks (17-8-4) taken on a familiar face when Antii Niemi and his San Jose Sharks roll into the United Center on Sunday. I’m sure Sharks coach Todd McLelland will have Antii Niemi in goal tonight even though he just went last night in goal when the Sharks fell 1-0 to the Blues.

Antii Niemi always seems to play his best against his former teammates or maybe he still feels he has something to prove to them parting ways with him. Last year the Sharks won 3 out of the 4 contests with him in the nets when facing the Blackhawks. This will be the second meeting this year and Niemi already posted a 1-0 shutout to his former team. Ray Emery will be in ...
