Short on time and hard road to make playoffs

The Griffins have 6 games remaining in their regular season and are sitting 4 points out from a playoff berth.  The team has been playing well the last few games.  With so little time left there are 2 major events that need to happen like in every hockey game for them to move on to the playoffs:

They will need to play hard and their team leaders will need to continue scoring goals like they have been doing the last few games.

The defense must play a smart game and protect their goaltender from those unfortunate shots that have plagued the team this year. Giveaway goals are not an option at this point.

Up and Down week for team and the players

The Griffins had an up and down week with a win and a loss to San Antonio and a loss then a win against the Oklahoma City Barons. Along with the team, players are up and down with the Wings due to numerous injuries. Ty Conklin and Jordan Pearce were called up to the Red Wings Due to Howard and MacDonald’s injuries, Doug Janik was back from the Wings and in the lineup for the loss on Thursday to San Antonio. Brendan Smith was reassigned Saturday night to the Griffins but he had flight problems and could not make the game for Sunday. With Howard still out and MacDonald possibly out for the season the Griffs will be relying on Thomas McCollum and rookie Ramis Sadikov in net to finish t...

They Shoot They Score

The Griffins have had a tough season this year catching a place into a playoff spot but they have not had a problem when it comes to scoring goals against their opponents. Their offense when clicking is a powerhouse.  The team has been strong in the offensive zone and has no problem hurling the puck at the net.

The team has tallied 194 goals in 60 games this season which is an average of 3 goals a game. They also average 34 shots per game. Not only are the forwards throwing shots at the net the D have had their fair share at putting a point on the board.

Grand Rapids Griffins have a hard hitting weekend

On Friday the Griffins battled the big hitting Rochester Americans and came away with an important division win. Rochester took control of the game early but the Griffins were able to pull themselves out of a deficit and come away with a well-deserved 4-3 win. On Saturday the Oklahoma Barons came in leading their Division. The Griffins played a positive game and came away with another win in a shootout. Conklin was very strong and blocked all four shots during the shootout. Fabian Brunnstrom shooting in the third round put in a nice upper shelf shot to take the lead and Chris Minard in the fourth round rocketed a shot past their goalie to win the game. Grand Rapids Griffins Have a Positive Week

The Grand Rapids Griffins finish off the week with a big win over the division leading Toronto Marlies.

The Griffs started the week off right with a 4-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday, a 6-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday and then the 3-2 win over the Marlies Saturday afternoon. 3 Division wins in a week is what the Griffins needed to boost the teams morale

The Detroit Red Wings AHL affiliate had been in a slump since losing their number one Goalie Joey MacDonald to the number two position for the Wings. With Ty Conklin in net a new life has emerged for the Griffins. All cylinders seem to be firing in the right direction.
