Before the Olympic break the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Kris Letang had suffered a stroke. The breaking and shocking news had left many in the hockey community stunned.

Letang is a noted “freak” of an athlete. His training regimen mocks that of power lifters, cross fit, football players, and endurance athletes. His unique blend of explosive power and endurance allows him to play over 25 minutes a night in the NHL.

All of this makes a stroke seem highly unlikely, but as the doctors noted, a prior medical condition was the root cause.

Game Preview: Kings Vs Blues

 

Preview: The Kings (18-12-2; 38 points) continue their road stretch in St. Louis to take on the Blues(17-13-2; 36 points) tonight at 5. The Blues sit just behind the Kings in 7th place in the Western Conference standings.

This will be the third and final game between the two teams. The Kings captured two points in the two previous games winning 4-1 in February and 6-4 a couple weeks ago. Despite leading the team with 18 goals Jeff Carter has recently cooled off leaving the Kings with a more balanced approach. St Louis spirits are high after they squash a five game losing streak on Wednesday night, but the Detroit Red Wings cannot say the same. The Wings fell 4 to 3 against the Blues in overtime.

The Kings (3-5-1; 8 points) have a quick turn around after a devastating 3-2 loss in Detroit when they head to St. Louis to take on the Blues (6-4-1; 13 points) tonight at 5. The Kings have dropped their past two games and are 1-3 entering the final leg of their road trip. After a red hot start the Blues are on a four game skid earning only one point. St. Louis lost Saturday night 6-5 (SO) to Anaheim and hope to end their four game home stand on a positive note.
