Avs Captain Adam Foote Announces his retirement

Avs Adam Foote is calling an end to his 20 year career The Avs will be losing another captain this week, as Adam Foote will officially announce his retirement on Friday morning. No one knows if he might still play Sunday, but Foote has battled a leg injury all year, an injury that has most recently kept him out of the lineup the last ten games. Footer is the last remaining Nordique on the roster, and even though he left for two years with Columbus, he returned to the team that drafted him and was somewhat effective. It seemed that the new rules after the lockout really changed who Foote was as a player. Before, he was always the toughest battler in front on the net and in the corn...

Another Loss closer to a top pick!

Landeskog is quickly becoming a reality Well a game in which the Avs were up 2-0 quickly became a 4-2 loss against the newly crowned division champs Vancouver Canucks. It wasn't a bad game by the Avs, and it wasn't a great game by the Canucks. It was a great game by the Sedins. The Sedin twins won that game and the division for the Canucks, and boy are they amazing! It's no wonder they are both top 5 in scoring. Elliott had a pretty good night, and both Duchene and Johnson played their hearts out and it got them both a goal. This Avalanche team has the pieces, they just aren't all healthy right now. The one good thing is an unlucky season for a decent upcoming team, will lead the...

Avs sign first rounder Hishon...Help me win a contest please!

Avs first rounder Joey Hishon The Avs signed last years first rounder Joey Hishon to a contract yesterday, however it is looking like he will not play with the team this year. Hishon could be a big help for the team next year after a successful year he is having with the Owen Sound. I look forward to seeing some of the prospects develop and bring this franchise back to the top. CONTEST! PLEASE HELP ME GET VOTES! I am currently in a goalie mask design contest on Facebook, if you have a Facebook, please go and vote for my design. All you have to do is allow the application and push vote, that's it. Just try and do it real quick each day and share it with others. I would be...

who will be the Avs choice in the draft?

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is right now projected number one Well the Avs are almost guaranteed a top 5 pick, barring some miraculous run that gets them out of that spot, but also the Avs free fall may land them with the number one pick. Especially seeing as the Avs play the last place Oilers 2 more times, and well they already lost to them 5-2 both games. I thought I would take a look at the top 5 projected pick and see what would be the best pick for the Avs. Now you have to look at it like this; do the Avs need to replace Stewy, or after injuries are we fine up front. With all the smaller d prospects, should the Avs go after a true D-man to pair or help Johnson out. Or do the Avs just ...

Avs fall yet again... but I'm fine with it...

Avs fall again to Preds 4-2 Well I haven't written a lot lately, because well there hasn't been much to write. The Avs continue their nose dive to the bottom of the standings and the reasons behind it are the same as they have been since it started. As a fan I want them to win, but I have not come to grips with being ok with the losses. The teams below the Avs are playing well and before we know it the Avs could have the number one pick in the draft. Playoffs are out of the question now and so the only thing to play for is that pick. Currently the Avs have added a few more players to the injury list including Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk. So the scoring will more than likely comp...

Avs Improve, still lose

Elliott played well, but a bad bounce lost the game The Avs have lost another game, but they did get one point in San Jose. Don't worry, the teams ahead and behind them in the standings got a point too. The game looked liked the Avs would get a win leading with only 3 minutes left in the game. But it was a lucky bounce that tied it for the Sharks and got them to overtime. From there Ryan Clowe put home the only shootout goal to lead San Jose to the 2-1 win. Elliott had his best game only allowing less than 3 goals for the first time in the Avs last 19 games. Erik Johnson also looked great getting a nice goal in the third to give the Avs the lead. His wrister from the point wa...

Moving towards that pick!

The Avs continue to slip on their California road trip Greetings readers! Well the Avs are currently on a California road trip, and I hope the team is getting some golf practice in, as I am sure they will have a lot of chances to play come May. The Avs have continued to slide, and besides there win at St. Louis, the Avs have lost 14 out of their last 16 games. It has been just plain dreadful to watch the team, even when they play decent. For instance, I thought their game against Anahiem was preet good overall, however they just couldn't catch any breaks. The biggest thing is not allowing a goal late in the third period. It seems Peter Budaj plays decently well throughout the wh...

EJ plays hero and Avs snap skid!

Well it's over, the record 10 game losing streak snapped against the St. Louis Blues and some familiar faces. Speaking of familiar faces, I called it in my update blog, and sure enough Stewart had two goals and Shatty had an assist. But it wasn't enough as Johnson scored the go ahead goal against his ex-team to lead the Avs to victory. Johnson had a decent game for the Avs finishing with plus minus of 0 and the one goal while logging 25 minutes on the ice. On the opposite side Stewart ended the game with 2 goals and a plus minus of 0, but 2 very costly penalty minutes as the Avs got a 2-0 lead from it. The Blues didn't give up down 2-0 and were able to tie it up 2-2 going into the...

Avs Preview: This looks familiar

Stewart and Johnson will be facing off with their jersey's swapped Avs play in St. Louis tonight only days after the blockbuster trade that saw Erik Johnson join the Avs in exchange for Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk. All the players involved have had a chance to play at least one game with their new respective clubs and all played decently. Last night St. Louis lost to Chicago 5-3, and neither Stewart or Shattenkirk got a point. In fact, as I was watching the game, a particular goal by Chicago saw Shattenkirk standing around in front of the net as a blackhawk skated in and put the puck in the net off the face-off. Yupp, that was the Shattenkirk I remembered on the defensive si...

Avs Update: The Real Anderson Story

EJ made his debut in a 4-0 loss against the Sharks Ex Players Faceoff Well it has been a couple of days since the big trades and at least every player involved has had one game with their new teams (Except for Elliott, still having visa problems). I thought both EJ and McClement played quite well for the Avs. EJ and Jay both had a ton of chances and fit well with the team. I don't fault either for any of the goals and EJ made some great plays defensively. One play in particular was a guy got the puck for the Sharks right in the slot and out of no where EJ dove in front and blocked a for sure goal. Tonight is a HUGE game as the Avs head into St. Louis for a match up of ex players...
