Avs Update: The Real Anderson Story

EJ made his debut in a 4-0 loss against the Sharks Ex Players Faceoff Well it has been a couple of days since the big trades and at least every player involved has had one game with their new teams (Except for Elliott, still having visa problems). I thought both EJ and McClement played quite well for the Avs. EJ and Jay both had a ton of chances and fit well with the team. I don't fault either for any of the goals and EJ made some great plays defensively. One play in particular was a guy got the puck for the Sharks right in the slot and out of no where EJ dove in front and blocked a for sure goal. Tonight is a HUGE game as the Avs head into St. Louis for a match up of ex players...

Avs make surprise late nighter with Blues: My take

Former first round pick Eric Johnson is headed to Denver In a surprising late night trade that was quite shocking to wake up to the Avs have traded former first round picks Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk plus a conditional second round pick to St. Louis for former first pick overall Eric Johnson, and Jay McClement plus a conditional first round pick. The two conditional picks are interesting, if St. Louis finishes in the bottom 10 this year they will have the option to keep their pick this year, however they will give up a first next year risking a worse year and a better pick going Colorado's way. Depending on what St. Louis does with the pick, the Avs second will either be th...

Avs Acquire Elliott for Anderson... WHAT?!

Avs Acquired Elliott for Anderson The Avs just traded goaltender Craig Anderson for Ottawa's Brian Elliott... WHAT?! Neither team is really going to make a run for a playoff spot yet they make this trade? This one baffles me. Last night there were rumors Andy would be heading for Toronto after the Giguere injury. But no one, and I mean no one saw this coming. I just don't get it. Both goalies are struggling, so the Avs traded one struggling goalie for another? I mean honestly I am starting to get sick of underachieving players the Avs acquire in hopes of a scenery change that might help them find their game. I will have more on the trade as more details come, maybe what was go...

A Tribute to Peter the Great

As I sit at my computer screen, staring blankly at the worst performance by a team in Colorado Avalanche history, and I want to get this game out of my mind. I figured the best way was to write a tribute to one of the greatest hockey players to ever play the game. Peter Forsberg finally decided to call it quits today after a career that was full of amazing play and questions of what if? What if Foppa had of played 1,200 games like some of the other greats? What if Foppa wasn’t born with a foot defect that caused pain while skating? What if they found a cure and Forsberg could go back to 100 percent? What if, what if, what if! I want to start back with the biggest what if of Forsbe...

Worst day in Avalanche History!

On a day when out of no where Peter Forsberg announces his retirement, the Avs have had the worst day ever. As I write this the score is 8-1, scratch that, make it 9-1 now. Listening to the announcers try to cover up the horrible play is just plain stupid. Saying it's unlucky, and not really getting any bounces... IT'S 9-1! That isn't just bounces!! Add on to the terrible game, The avs lost two players including Matt Duchene. You hope Duchene's injury isn't bad, but he left with a pretty bad hand injury. Also rookie defensemen Cameron Gaunce was hit with a puck and also left not being able to put pressure on his leg. So let's see the injury list right now. Matt Duchene Camero...

Forsberg decides to retire... WAIT WHAT!?

As the Avs blogger it gives me sad news to announce Forsbergs retirement from the NHL. This cam as a shock to me today when it was first announced. Forsberg has always been one of my favorite Avs players and for anyone that saw him play the last two games you have to wonder why? Forsberg was easily the best player in his two games and even though he ended with a -4, He could have easily had 4-6 points had it not been for teammates who screwed up easy chances. But enough about the actual retirement, I would like to go back to some of my favorite, and worst Forsberg moments. The top Forsberg moment for me would have to of been a game in Florida some time around 1998 or so... Avs wer...

Forsberg's Decision

Peter Forsberg's comeback to the NHL ended today as the Colorado Avalanche forward retired two games into his season. Forsberg has had chronic foot/ankle problems for a while now, and tried to come back multiple times with the Avs and the Philadelphia Flyers. I'll leave all the stats and memories to the Avalanche writers, I just wanted to voice my opinion on Foppa. As a huge Red Wings fan growing up, watching the Wings battle the Avs was the best thing going. The Avs had Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, Foote and Hejduk and the Wings countered with Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov and Lidstrom. It really was a great rivalry. The thing is at the time I hated the Avalanche with a passion. That's ...

He's Back!!!!

Peter the Great makes his return tonight for the struggling Avs Peter Forsberg makes his comeback tonight in ohio Well it is official, reports here in Denver have confirmed Forsberg will make his return tonight in Columbus skating on a line with Duchene and Hejduk. Forsberg seemed quite nervous in interviews this morning and has said he just wants to get it done with and get back on the ice. Duchene seemed very excited when interviewed as well saying he hopes Forsberg can feed him for some goals tonight. Another interesting part of the interview with Forsberg was talking about his physical play on the ice. He said he may not be the same physical player, however he did once you get ...

Avs-Wild Preview: Payback time!

Goalie Craig Anderson needs to find his game from last year Payback for a loss at home Well the Avs faceoff against Minnesota tonight in St. Paul. Just last week the Avs lost 4-3 at home to the Wild after a super performance from Andrew Brunette and Jose Theodore. It seems anytime there is a player who spent time in an Avs uniform, they have an amazing game against us (see Radim Vrbata last gmae who had a goal and an assist). Last game Bruno ended up with 2 goals and Theo played a great game that helped the Wild come away wit the win. Now the Avs have a chance for revenge and a chance to get back into the playoff races. Currently the Avs are 5 points out of 8th place and 3 ...

Shutout twice in a row... It's over

Well we can't stop them from scoring 3, and we can't score.. For the second straight game that Avs lost 3-0, and it is starting to get ridiculous. I have no idea what the true reason they are playing this bad. There isn't one part of the team that can be blamed more than the other. The defense is bad, the goaltending mediocre, no one can score on this team. The only place one can put blame in this situation is the coach. Coach Sacco keeps benching players, putting them through bag skates, calling up and sending players down. Nothing is working and you have to wonder if it might be Sacco himself. Peter Forsberg didn't play last night because of immigration issues and had to ev...
