New Rookies create a Dilemma for the Avs

Both Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen have created a new question I wouldn't want to be in coach Sacco's shoes right about now, however it is for a good reason. After a 5-0 beating of the Dallas Stars, Sacco has the question of who to play on defense. Colby Cohen who made his debut in the Stars game, and Kevin Shattenkirk who was playing in his second game both played well and gave a huge youthful boost to the defense. The problem is that the Avs will soon be getting the return services of Adam Foote, Ryan Wilson, and Kyle Cumiskey. In order to play both Shattenkirk and Cohen, Sacco will have to either send down two of the aforementioned defense men or scratch them. If I were ...

Avs D continues terrible play in loss

The Avs continue to get hurt by terrible play by the defense, and last night against Vancouver was no difference in a 3-1 loss at Pepsi Center. If it wasn't for a great performance by Peter Budaj the Avs would have lost by at least six or seven goals. Budaj played very well, and I could find no blame for any of the three goals he allowed. The first was a terrible defensive play that left Kesler one on one with Budaj and he got sniped. The second a great play by a Sedin that took a puck that rebounded off the back boards and played it in off of Budaj and another player and in. Youth is great in the case of the Avs

It took only a couple of years for the Avs to rebuild with youth and create a team that can compete again in the tough Western Conference. Thanks to players like Matt Duchene and Chris Stewart, the Avs are an extremely competitive team as well as one of the youngest teams in the league. It is their youth, speed, and determination that has made them into a very tough opponent. Stewart was just named the third star for the month of October with 16 points in only 11 games. This is the same Stewart that just a few years ago was in the same sentence as lazy. Stewart has definitely proved this statement wrong with being one of the leading scorers in this early season.
