The Chicago Blackhawks prepare for a high-paced season

The CBA has been hammered out, the MOUs have been signed, and teams across the NHL welcome fans back into their buildings starting on Sunday as training camps open for the league.

It's long overdue for a lockout that should not have happened to begin with. While the fans eagerly flock back - as the league knew they would - they should not be taken for granted.

In Chicago, a number of Blackhawks supplemented by players like Mike Brown (TOR), Al Montoya (WPG), Ben Eager (EDM), and Troy Brouwer (WSH) have been skating at least three times a week since the lockout began. Kenny McCudden, skating and skills coach for the Chicago Wolves (AHL), has worked with the players at least...

Phoenix win their first series in 25 years; Chicago's season is over

The Chicago Blackhawks finally found their game.

Unfortunately, it came in game 6 in a first-round series where they were down 3-2, and they were up against a goaltender who was having the game of his life.

On Monday night in Chicago, the Blackhawks came out on fire. They grabbed a hold of the game, and put a stranglehold on it. They nearly had shots on goal into the double digits before the Coyotes registered their first; they blocked shots; they scooped the puck away from Phoenix with such ease that it was almost like watching an NHL team play against an AHL one.

This is the team that Blackhawks fans have been looking ...

Phoenix Coyotes take series opening vs Chicago Blackhawks

Going into the Thursday opener between Chicago and Phoenix, most analysts were split on their predictions. Several pointed out that the Coyotes had owned the season series between the two, 3-1; but just as many acknowledged that those games were not some of the Blackhawks' best hockey of the year. Mike Smith has been the difference-maker for Phoenix, while the Chicago goalies have had their share of struggles.

At the end of the day, however, these two teams have always battled strongly against one another, their different styles making for some interesting games.

After four high-paced opening minutes, Chicago captain Jonathan Toews put the first goal of the night...

Wild prevail 2-1 over Hawks in Shootout

In a game that saw the return of Duncan Keith, which also saw a much tighter defensive effort yet the Blackhawks lose this game in the last four minutes of the game. The bigger picture and more importantly was that the fourth seeding in the Western Conference and home ice advantage in the playoffs was at stake.

Not making an excuse but the Hawks lineup was fairly depleted with Toews, Montador, Lepisto, Bolland and Brunette all out of the line-up. This impacted the lines on the ice and the match ups coach Q could employ.

The Blackhawks with only gaining one point and Nashville defeating Dallas can not capture the 4th seed and home ice in the first round. They can only get as hi...

Benefits to Finishing in Sixth?

There are three games left and the Detroit Red Wings can do themselves a huge favour. They control their own destiny for fourth place if they finish 3-0. In the first round, they'd play a Central Division rival, Nashville or Chicago. Finishing anything other than 3-0 leaves far too much guess work as to who else they might play, especially if they finish sixth (one point separates fourth through sixth).

This is definitely unfamiliar territory for Red Wings fans, who might find this season unacceptable; even with all the injuries, and even considering the team has made the playoffs 21 years in a row. There is always talk about whether finishing in a higher seed&nbs...

Blackhawks clinch playoff spot and find power switch on their power play in Nashville

Sometimes things are sweeter when you have to work for them and they don’t come so easy.  As a fan of hockey, I have to say this game had it all & then some. In a game that saw the Hawks running away with the game to start and then have it come down to a nail biting finish is what hockey is all about. Who says the playoffs start on April 11th? I think they’ve already begun.

The Blackhawks held on to defeat the Nashville Predators and in the process secure themselves a ticket to the playoffs.  Unlike last year they determined their own fate and did not leave it on another team's sticks. The Hawks have learned from past mistakes which says a ...

Blackhawks seek to clinch playoff berth in Nashville

Two seasons ago, the Blackhawks and Predators battled their way through the first series in the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs. It was an unforgettable series, marked in particular by Game 5, where Marian Hossa scored a dramatic overtime goal that helped tip the series in Chicago's favorite. The rest of the season is history, of course, as the Blackhawks went on to win the Stanley Cup.

Last season, the Predators made team history when they reached the second round of the playoffs for the first time. This year, they'd like to go a little further - perhaps even all the way. Last night's win for the Predators was the 500th for head coach Barry Trotz, the only coach in Nas...

Blackhawks scratch a point out of the Devils in the shootout

Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford spoke of New Jersey goalie Marty Brodeur before the game. The future-HHOF goalie had been one of Crawford's idols when he was growing up in Montréal; the idea of one day growing up and playing against him was a seemingly impossible thing. But here he was, ready to take the ice vs. Brodeur.

Brodeur was drafted in 1990. He got his first call ups to the NHL during the 1991-92 season. To compare how long he's been in the NHL, Blackhawks rookie Andrew Shaw was born in July 1991. He owns just about every goalie record in the NHL, and #30 will be retired in New Jersey the second he decides he's done playing. But until that day comes, he...

Central showdown in Chicago tonight

Going into tonight's game, the Blackhawks are just 1-4 against the Nashville Predators, and they'll still have one more game to play against these division rivals at the end of the week. The Hawks are also down one of their best defensemen, as Duncan Keith sits out the first of five games in his suspension after a high hit against Daniel Sedin in last Wednesday's game vs the Canucks. Team captain Jonathan Toews is closer to returning but still also watching from the sidelines, as are defensemen Steve Montador and Sami Lepistö, and forward Marcus Krüger.

Nashville won 3-1 over the Winnipeg Jets in their own building last night; but they're just 2-3-1 over their...

Blackhawks’ fast start leads to BIG 4-1 win over Dallas

They say everything in Texas is bigger and nothing could have been truer in last night’s Chicago Blackhawks/Dallas Stars game. There was big goals, big saves and big hits which, saw the Hawks standing their ground and coming out of big D with a big two points. More importantly the Hawks are showing they may not out muscle you but they don’t need to in order to skate away with wins.

The Hawks have played the Blues, Rangers, Kings & now the Stars who are all solid defensive teams with excellent netminders and top drawer defenses. The Hawks managed to get points in each of these games which are huge coming down the stretch to the playoffs. In what could be a glimpse of ...
