Game Preview: Showdown in Anaheim

Preview: There could be a lot on the line for tonight’s Southern California battle. The Kings (22-13-3; 47 points) make the short trip to Anaheim to take on the Ducks (25-8-5; 55 points) tonight at 6. Tonight’s contest marks the final ten games in the season for both teams. Los Angeles currently sits in second place in the Pacific Division trailing the Ducks by eight points. The Kings final game against Anaheim will be next Saturday at the Staples Center.

Since the winner of each division is reserved a top three seed for the playoffs winning the Pacific Division provides plenty of advantages. A chance to pick up two points on the Ducks and set the ton...

Ducks Sweep Blackhawks in 2-1 Victory

The Chicago Blackhawks fell to the Anaheim Ducks for the third time this season, giving the Ducks the series sweep with a 2-1 victory in the United Center.  The win comes as sweet relief for the hungry Ducks, who were 0-4 since their last bout with the Hawks, including a 4-0 shutout loss to the San Jose Sharks.   Chicago briefly regained their 5 point lead in the Western Conference, only to have the Ducks within striking distance again after tonight's loss.   RECAP: The first period ended with the two teams scoreless and tied with 9 SOGs a piece.  Corey Perry was the first to put a point on the board for the Ducks to liven u...

Game Preview Blackhawks vs. Ducks

ANA @ CHI- Game Preview

9:00pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks face the Anaheim Ducks tonight in the last game of a four game road trip. This is the first matchup this season of the best two teams in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks are coming off of a 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, the team who ended the record-setting points streak. The Ducks are coming off of a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

The Blackhawks aren’t the only team that has gone on a points streak this season. The Ducks have earned points in 11 straight games, the longest active point streak in the National Hockey League.

Game Preview: Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

The Flames will look to continue one streak while trying to end another tonight when they head into Anaheim to face the Ducks. The Flames have not won in Anaheim in fifteen straight visits but are playing their best hockey of the season and will look to extend their winning streak to a season-high three games. The Ducks are one of the surprises so far in this shortened season, sitting in 2nd place in the West, and at the top of the Pacific Division.

Philadelphia Flyers Not a Playoff Team

Now 5-9-0 in games against the current playoff set, acrimoniously booed off the Wells Fargo Center ice after a sadsack performance against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers find themselves at a crux. Are they a playoff team?

Is this team, that needs to be bailed out by magical timeouts on a daily basis, that can only play 20 minutes on any given night, that cannot get the big save when they need it, a playoff team?

Kings Continue Season Slide, Fall to Ducks 7-4

Stanley Cup hangovers have proved to be problems of varying degrees for teams coming off of a championship. Blame the perpetual photo shoot sessions and unending praise from complete strangers and an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment for a sluggish start to a new year. It’s easy to do those things. But when looking at this 48-game schedule, it’s also easy to point towards the especially extended offseason, coupled with the fact that the Kings’ roster is basically identical to the one which won the Stanley Cup last June and wonder why the team isn’t winni...

Red Wings look to extend the franchise record against Anaheim

The number 19 means a lot in the Motor City.

It was the jersey worn by Steve Yzerman during his career in the NHL. The "Captain" as he is sometimes referred to, helped bring 3 Stanley Cups to Detroit in the span of six years. Take a trip to Joe Louis Arena and one will see that number hanging above the ice.

Tonight, that number is something magical once again. As they are currently sitting on top the Central division, the Western conference and even more important, the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings are currently making history as they hold an 18 game win streak on home ice, a franchise record. The NHL record is 20, held by the Boston Bruins.

To say that the Wings ...

One, Two, Three, Triple Deke - Ducks 4 Isles 2

The Ducks top line of Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, and Bobby Ryan had a coming out party Friday Night.

Unfortunately, it was at the New York Islanders expense.

Bobby Ryan had two goals and Ryan Getzlaf scored the go-ahead goal, his first in over a month, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Islanders 4-2.

Ryan started the scoring at 14:18 of the second period only seconds after their first power play of the game ended. Matt Martin answered back under two minutes later tapping home a rebound to tie the game at one. It was his fifth goal of the season, tying his career high.

Sutter Wins First with Kings

Newly-appointed head coach Darryl Sutter looks on. (photo courtesy of NHL.com)

It’s hard to measure exactly how much of an impact Darryl Sutter had on his new team earlier tonight, but one thing is for sure, he’s already off to a good start. The Kings defeated the Anaheim Ducks in a shootout 3-2, with help from Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll, who notched the extra-time goals.

During the game’s initial 65 minutes, the Kings played with a tenacity (evidenced mostly by Colin Fraser’s scrap with Anaheim’s Matt Belesky in the first period) that served them well in this game and will certainl...

Game Day: Phoenix Coyotes @ Anaheim Ducks

After having enjoyed more overall success in earlier weeks, the Phoenix Coyotes are struggling to find consistency and have split their last ten games, which includes a monster stretch of four games in six nights. They face Anaheim for already the third time this season, having had the upper hand in both meetings so far with wins of 5-4 and 4-2, exactly one month apart.

The Ducks, like the Coyotes, have dropped their last two games.  Their division is in the midst of an overhaul, with only Phoenix's Dave Tippett and San Jose's Todd McLellan having coached full seasons with their respective clubs last year. Bruce Boudreau has a .666 winning-percentage all time and i...
