Stars Shell Shocked by Ducks

It was the best kind of hockey game, and it ended with plenty of excitement. After the Dallas Stars built a one goal lead late, the Anaheim Ducks surged back with a mad scramble at the end of the game to tie it up, and just a few minutes later, Cam Fowler jammed a huge dagger in the Stars' playoff hopes with the overtime winner. The points in this game were remarkably crucial. The Stars went into this game tied with several other teams, including the Anaheim Ducks with 85 points and ten games to play. The fact that the Stars went to overtime should be considered a blessing on their part. The scoring began early in the second period when Trevor Daley was sent to the penalty bo...

The Neal Deal - Did It Work?

PHOTO CREDIT: AP Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk had a tough situation to fight through at the trade deadline. Forward Brad Richards was fighting the symptoms of a concussion, and the Dallas Stars found themselves in and out of the playoff picture day in and day out. It seemed almost unprecedented that Nieuwendyk would ship off a key piece of the Stars' offensive picture. But he did. Neal, along with defenseman Matt Niskanen, was shipped to Pittsburgh for defenseman Alex Goligoski. It was easy to see the reasoning on both sides of this deal. The Stars are coming off of a rough night at Los Angeles, with 28 penalty minutes in the final period where the score was 1-1 after 40. The period was frusterating to watch and the Kings were able to capitalize on their opportunities. Back-to-back nights always scare me. Hockey is a taxing sport. If you watch intermission interviews, you know that the player be...

Mark Cuban Wants In

According to a report in the Dallas Morning news (recapped in this TSN story), Mark Cuban could be looking to buy into the Dallas Stars. The eccentric Mavericks owner would not want to be the sole owner, but you can bet you'd hear a lot of him even if he owned a very small piece of the team. Cuban would make for an interesting addition to the NHL's cast of characters. Not known for being the most outspoken of groups, players in the NHL are often chastised for saying anything that isn't a cliche in an interview. All you have to do is look at Sean Avery or Alex Burrows, or even someone like Jim Balsillie, who decided to go about his business differently than what the NHL was used to and got...
