They say everything in Texas is bigger and nothing could have been truer in last night’s Chicago Blackhawks/Dallas Stars game. There was big goals, big saves and big hits which, saw the Hawks standing their ground and coming out of big D with a big two points. More importantly the Hawks are showing they may not out muscle you but they don’t need to in order to skate away with wins.

Friday night marks a possible first-round preview as the Blackhawks and Stars drop the puck on their final matchup during the regular season.

The two teams are currently ranked sixth and third in the conference respectively, and if those standings hold, it should make for an entertaining first round -- after all, it was Dallas's own poor effort in their game #82 that sent the Blackhawks, not the Stars, to the playoffs last spring.

Before these two teams can look at April, however, they must first finish the regular season. Dallas has taken 2 of the 3 games the teams have played so far this season.

Things can change in a matter of days in the NHL. Last week, the Dallas Stars were struggling to string wins together and their hopes of the playoffs were slowly fading. The Stars have now won 7 of their last 8 and currently have the third playoff seed in the West.

The Stars' levels of commitment have been questionable over the course of the season, but during this recent stretch of success, I can’t fault the team one bit. They have played for one another, showing the intensity levels of a decent playoff team and getting the results they have truly deserved.

The art of the Twitter hater is something to be marveled at. Anyone in the world can hide behind a username and shout obscenities at anyone for no charge. Too bad public enemy number one in the NHL right now is Dallas Stars forward Eric Nystrom for his hit on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang.

This isn't the first time Nystrom has been attacked on Twitter, as his controversial hit on Oilers prospect Taylor Fedun drew the ire of the Internet back in the preseason.

Every game is important for the Flames at this point but tonight’s contest against the Stars is pretty much their season. This will be the second of four meetings between the clubs with the Stars taking the first meeting on Feb. 16th 3-2 in overtime. That meeting sent the two teams on two separate paths. Before that February meeting, the Flames held a 3 point lead over the Stars but with a 2-3-3 stretch, the Flames now find themselves 4 points back of the Stars for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Stars have been red hot since then going 6-1-2 and are current on a six game point streak (5-0-1). Make note this game is a 4 pm start.

It seems as if the Stars' season has been totally turned around in the last few games. They have taken 9 out of a possible 10 points in their last 5 games, which included wins over Montreal, Chicago, Minnesota and Vancounver, as well as a shootout loss in a thrilling encounter at the American Airlines Center against the Penguins.

The run of some sublime performances has lead to Dallas getting back into the playoff picture as they currently occupy eighth place in the Western Conference. Dallas' season was slowly stalling, but over the course of the winning streak they showed huge levels of intensity, passion and unity whilst playing some great hockey.

Life was more than good for Michael Ryder after this past summer. Posting a career high in all categories during the Boston Bruins' playoff run of destiny, and winning the Stanley Cup in the process, Ryder found himself as a valuable asset for the highest bidder over the summer.

Too bad that the "highest bidder" had to look back over the past few seasons and see a few amazing seasons followed by a stretch of several subpar seasons where Ryder fell off his game completely. The Dallas Stars ended up bidding $3.5 million for the capable scoring forward that they so desperately needed.

A 2-0 deficit against the Vancouver Canucks, the best road team in the entire league, can be rather daunting for any team in the league this season. However, the Dallas Stars found a way to not only tie it late, but win the game in overtime on a thrilling goal from Loui Eriksson.

The Stars, early on in the trading season, looked to establish themselves as sellers. As predicted, Nicklas Grossman was shipped to the Flyers, but I figured they could figure out a plan to grab a forward from the Flyers because they have so many. Instead, the ever-shrewd Paul Holmgren sent draft picks. Flyers won that deal, let's move on.

Heading into the 2011-12 campaign, not many Stars fans were sure of what lied ahead for their team with Brad Richards departing to New York and a rookie coach occupying the bench. With 59 games in the book, the inconsistent Stars currently sit tenth in the Western Conference and with time ticking, playoff hopes are slowly fading into the distance.

It has been a very frustrating season for Dallas supporters this season as the Stars look like a team with so much potential but have struggled to transfer that potential into points. Around 5:45 p.m., Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Philadelphia Flyers traded a second round pick in this year's draft and a third round pick in the 2013 draft to the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Nicklas Grossman.

The defenseman comes with a $1.65 million cap hit.
