Post Mortem & Predictions

For the fourth year in a row, there will be no playoffs in Big D. This was a huge year for the Stars to capitalize on the momentum of new ownership and increasing attendance due to lower ticket prices and a better product on the ice that included the emergence of a few big time players. Unfortunately, their opponents and their own demons killed them in the end.

A few problems contributed to the Stars' flat 3-7-0 stretch run which included a five game losing streak. The worst part is that those problems fell in the same time of year that killed the Stars the year prior against Minnesota. Here I thought the team was ready to overcome the obstacl...

Stars fall short once again

It is a pretty frustrating time to be a Dallas Stars fan at the moment. A few weeks ago, things were looking bright as the Stars sat on top of the Pacific division for a while and a playoff spot looked highly likely. However, they finished the 2011/12 season with 5 losses, resulting in no playoff hockey for 3 straight seasons.

I can’t help but feel that it is time for a bit of change in Dallas. Brenden Morrow has done great things for the franchise, but this season has showed why his NHL career is coming to an end. He has picking up more and more injuries and has lost the great physical edge that he brought to the Stars' game for many years. Morrow still holds a decent val...

Stormy Outlook

For the second year in a row, the Dallas Stars simply weren't good enough in the most critical games in the season. Last season, the Stars fell in a must-win game to the lost cause Minnesota Wild in the last game of the season for the rights to the playoffs in the 8th seed. This season, the Stars dropped a beyond critical home-and-home with the San Jose Sharks.

The Stars now stand 3 points behind the Sharks for the 8th seed with two games to go. It would take a complete collapse by them against the Los Angeles Kings, and the Stars defeating Western powerhouses Nashville (away) and St. Louis (home) to be invited to the postseason dance.

Final Week Final Thoughts

Heading into one of the better weeks in sports as the NHL regular season winds down and playoff spots are finalized, I thought I would give some thoughts on the season and things I look forward to heading into the playoffs.

Is the Sixth Seed Detroit's Best Hope?

It may be difficult for some fans to acknowledge but Detroit is faltering in the late stages of the season and are looking less and less like a true playoff contender. Detroit is 2-6-2 in its last 10 games and has not regained its form since the return of Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Franzen and Howard.

The Nashville Predators beat Detroit easily 4-1 Friday night thanks to the strong play of Pekka Rinne and production from their recent additions. The Red Wings quickly lost their outside chance to catch the St. Louis Blues and take the Central Division title for themselves and are now one point behind Nashville and tied with Chicago, however the Wings do have a game in hand. Detroit is 2-3 aga...

Stars face stern test in Vancouver

The Stars finish their road trip in Canada with a tough game against the Canucks at Rogers Arena. Dallas still sits top of the incredibly tight Pacific division, with Phoenix on the same tally of points but having played a game more. The Stars take on the Canucks tonight and the Sharks tomorrow, 2 games that could decide their season.

The first goal of the game is going to be crucial tonight. When the Canucks score first, they have a record of 39-9-4. When the Stars score first, they have a record of 30-8-3. Those are 2 great records meaning the first goal will play a big part in the outcome of the game tonight.

Trying to stop the first goal being conceded will be 2 of the lea...

Game Preview: Flames vs Dallas Stars

Pride is about the only thing on the line for the Flames at this point as they wrap up their home-and-home against the Stars tonight at the Scotia bank Saddledome. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the squads with the Stars looking for a season sweep of the Flames after defeating them 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Dallas. The loss all but squashed the Flames playoff hopes as they now sit three points back of the three-way tie for 8th spot between the Kings, Sharks and Avalanche.

Flames Lose Fifth Straight: Season Over

The Calgary Flames lost their fifth game in a row on Saturday afternoon in Dallas 4-1.

The season is all but over.

What's the problem though and why did they go on this slide?

In my opinion, it's a losing mentality that's ingrained in the dressing room starting with the coach.

Game Preview: Flames vs Dallas Stars

Motivation to write this preview for today’s afternoon clash between the Flames and Dallas Stars is pretty low to say the least. The disappointment of Thursdays loss to the Minnesota Wild along with the Flames current four game losing skid, where the team has lost to the bottom three teams in the West, still lingers inside of me and many Flames fans. With 6 games remaining and still only two points out of a playoff spot, the Flames still have a chance. This afternoon’s matinee kicks-off a crucial home and home series between the Flames and Stars as both teams are fighting tooth and nail to make the playoffs. The Stars have won both match-ups against the Flames this season as both games were 3-2 and both needed extra time (OT on Feb. 16th, SO on Mar. 4th).

Blackhawks’ fast start leads to BIG 4-1 win over Dallas

They say everything in Texas is bigger and nothing could have been truer in last night’s Chicago Blackhawks/Dallas Stars game. There was big goals, big saves and big hits which, saw the Hawks standing their ground and coming out of big D with a big two points. More importantly the Hawks are showing they may not out muscle you but they don’t need to in order to skate away with wins.

The Hawks have played the Blues, Rangers, Kings & now the Stars who are all solid defensive teams with excellent netminders and top drawer defenses. The Hawks managed to get points in each of these games which are huge coming down the stretch to the playoffs. In what could be a glimpse of ...
