Western Trip Begins in Edmonton

The Red Wings head out West for a three game Canadian road trip starting in Edmonton tonight. The Red Wings are 7-8 away from home this year, but they have had success against their Western Canadian foes. Just this year, Detroit shutout the young Oilers 3-0 on goals by Drew Miller, Valtteri Filppula and Niklas Kronwall.

After Edmonton, the Wings visit Vancouver on Wednesday and Calgary on Thursday.

Detroit is coming off an impressive 8-2 demolition of the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

The Oilers have a ton of young talent, especially their top line of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. Edmonton has been winless in eight of its last ten games.

Five Wings prospects to represent in 2012 WJC

It's always wise to invest in the future, right?

Well the Wings will get a chance to see what their potential investments can do as five of the team's prospects will represent their countries in the 2012 World Junior Championships.

So who are these five young players?

2011 Draft picks: Mattias Backman (Sweden), Tomas Jurco (Slovakia) and Marek Tvrdon (Slovakia)

Backman is a defenseman in the Linkoping junior league and has 9 points in 34 games. Jurco, a YouTube sensation among hockey fans, is a right wing for the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) and has 21 goals and 24 assists this season. Tvrdon is a forward for the Vancouver Giants (WHL) and has 14 ...

Detroit Demolishes Kings

When TCL Predators writer Greg Duley stated that the Red Wings would come back from their 4-3 loss to Nashville with a better effort, he wasn't kidding.

The Wings blasted the Los Angeles Kings 8-2 in a game where they were outshot. The scoring basically came from the bottom two lines. Cory Emmerton had two goals as did Drew Miller. Niklas Kronwall, Brad Stuart, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg also scored for the Red Wings and Dan Cleary had three assists. Jimmy Howard picked up his 19th win of the year.

Detroit has won 10 straight games at Joe Louis Arena.

Having production from everyone on the team is a great way for teams to continue streaks. With Detroit...

Game Preview: Red Wings vs. Kings

Games at this point in the season shouldn't be filled with so much of it, but today's game has drama written all over it.

The Red Wings and Kings face each other for the second time this season, with the Wings having the series advantage after a 4-1 win in Los Angeles. The Kings are now without Terry Murray, who was fired from the head coaching position on Monday. They gave interim coach John Stevens his first win Thursday night against Columbus, snapping a five-game losing streak.

The Wings on the other hand, managed to let a potential four-game win streak get awat from them Thursday night in Nashville. Expect them to be looking for a chance to r...

Detroit Chokes in Classic Fashion

In my world, the Detroit Red Wings won tonight by a score of 3-2 over the Nashville Predators. In real life, NOT TRUE.

Shea Weber scored twice in the last two minutes of the game and Nashville somehow won 4-3. They were out-shot, out-chanced and out-classed until the last two minutes and the Wings don't get a single point for it. That's what happens when you let your foot off the gas pedal.

So here's how this is going to work; I'm going to write an honest game review until the 3-2 mark, and then it's rant time. Fair enough? Here we go.

Detroit opened the scoring with Tomas Holmstrom on the powerplay; a typical Homer rebound garbage goal. Henrik Zetter...

Tatar May Play Tonight, Hudler Hurt?

As stated in Eric Huffman's Red Wings vs Nashville Predators game preview, Chris Conner is out with a fractured hand and will be replaced by Cory Emmerton, who has been a healthy scratch a number of the past few games.

News also surfaced that Tomas Tatar has been called up from Grand Rapids (AHL), which begs the question, "To fill a seat in the press box or is someone else hurt?"

MLive.com reported that the unnamed player is actually Jiri Hudler, who was seen talking to Detroit trainers before leaving practice in Nashville this morning. Tatar will take the morning skate and if Hudler can't go, the Slovak will take his place in the line-up, presumably wi...

Game Preview: Red Wings @ Nashville

Earlier this season, the Wings easily defeated the Predators on home ice. Tonight, the two teams meet for their second of six scheduled regular season games, this time in Nashville.

The momentum is on both sides tonight as the Wings and Predators are both looking for a fourth consecutive win. So far this season, Nashville has faired better at home than on the road, so even with them currently being ranked fourth in the division (Wings are second), the home advantage may prove to be useful.

If Nashville plans on stopping Detroit however, it is going to require making Pavel Datsyuk a non-factor. The Wings center has 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in his last 12 games. 8 of thos...

5 Moves to Make a Good Detroit Team Better

The Detroit Red Wings are rolling through this season, on pace for yet another 100+ point season and a 21st consecutive playoff appearance. While they already have a good team in front of them, these five changes could make them into an even better one, and all of them are plausible situations.

1. TRADE FOR A GOAL SCORER

There are not a lot of pure goal scorers on the Wings. Henrik Zetterberg hasn't been a huge threat and Pavel Datsyuk is basically a great set-up man. Johan Franzen is the closest thing to it, but he is inconsistent. A player like Zach Parise is someone who can score every night and would benefit from a move to Detroit. Look for fireworks at the trade deadl...

Wings Easily Handle Pens

The Detroit Red Wings won their third straight game tonight, and 10th of their last 12, as they defeated the rival home squad Pittsburgh Penguins.

Evgeni Malkin opened the scoring with just 4.5 seconds left in the first, but that would be all for the flightless birds. A powerplay marker late in the second by Pavel Datsyuk evened the score at one heading into the intermission. The Wings would come out flying, pun intended, in the third, after a mere 13 shots through 2, and another powerplay goal by Johan Franzen after a beautiful feed from Datsyuk put the Wings up 2-1. Jimmy Howard would keep the door shut, and with 4:24 remaining Chris Conner threaded the needle to Cleary for ...

Detroit Visits Sid-Less Penguins

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby will not play Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings due to a recurrence of concussion-like symptoms.

Crosby, who missed nearly ten months because of a concussion, returned a few weeks ago and was playing excellent hockey, until a couple of collisions made the Penguins take him out of the line-up as a precaution for two games, but now that has changed to an indefinite time frame.

Jordan Staal might also sit for the Pens as well.

Detroit will have Jimmy Howard in net tomorrow at the Consol Energy Center. Detroit has lost its past two games against the Penguins, with the last win coming two years ago in Hockeytown, a 3-1 win which saw ...
