4/10/14 Recap: Isles Top Canadiens 2-0

The Islanders went into Montreal Thursday night and threw a serious wrench into the Canadiens chances of earning home-ice advantage in the playoffs as they blanked the hosts 2-0.

Isles Are Not Up To The Task Of Containing Powerful Penguins

After a scoreless first period, the Pittsburgh Penguins score three in the second period to blow the game wide open and cruise to a victory in today's game five of this best of seven first round series.
The Penguins got goals from four different players and ten different skaters had points in Pittsburgh's 4-0 shutout. For Tomas Vokoun, it was his second career shutout.

Eastern Conference QF Islanders vs. Penguins Game 1: Preview

The 2013 NHL season has come to an end and an impressive push down the stretch by our beloved Isles has secured them the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. For the first time since 2007, the New York Islanders will play post-season hockey and compete for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

However, the real challenge lies ahead for the Islanders, as they will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the playoffs. The Penguins basically ran circles around the rest of the Eastern Conference during the lockout-shortened 2013 season, finishing in 1st place with 72 points. (Photo Credit: Beauty Playin 'Eh/Flickr)

Islanders vs. Penguins: Preview 3/30/13

The Islanders face the Pittsburgh Penguins this afternoon for the 5th and final time this season. After winning the first matchup, the Isles fell to the Pens in the three following games.

The Islanders come into today's 1pm matinee game at Energy Consol Centre tied for 8th place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers. Thanks to a huge shootout victory against the Flyers on Thursday night, New York is currently on their best win streak of the season at 3.

Examining The Acquisitions

When a team finds success in the NHL on a consistent basis, it is very difficult for GM’s to tinker with said success in order to find greater success. It is the easiest explanation as to how the NHL has witnessed such playoff parity. In the modern cap era it has become even more difficult to place a team on the ice that has a continued shot at a championship. So with all of this in perspective, is it possible that we see a Stanley Cup champion this season that has also won the cup within the past five seasons?

It is the question that seemingly everyone in the NHL is waiting to see. With Pittsburgh and Chicago pushing the boundaries of greatness, the NHL might finally witness ...

We Got'em

Well, the Pittsburgh Penguins have officially acquired Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames. In exchange for the veteran’s experience the Penguins have traded their first round selection in the 2013 entry level draft and unsigned college prospects Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino.

Amid rumors and credited reporting, Jarome Iginla had initially been on his way to Boston. After a tough loss to the Canadiens, Boston fans were rejoicing in emphatic jubilance to have such a revered player help fix whatever ail their team. Twitter erupted with numerous reports on how the trade was won and how Boston has pulled into a virtual (paper champion) tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins after th...

March Madness

Hit the Deck, Cannon Ball Comin’ Through!

Using a Pittsburgh Pirates home run call is about all I can say right about now, because in my mind, Ray Shero has hit a home run.

On Sunday March 24th, Shero sent prized prospect Joe Morrow and a 5th round draft pick to the Dallas Stars for a third round draft pick and veteran winger Brenden Morrow. The 34 year old former captain of the Dallas Stars is going to be bringing a few key skill sets to Pittsburgh, but none more important than that of leadership and stability.

The gritty winger will see time all over the ice for Pittsburgh. He is expected to play with Malkin and Neal, as well as time on Sutter’s wing with M...

San Jose Sharks Line Profiles: Defense

We all know how this works, right? Here are my predictions for the points totals and line combinations of the San Jose Sharks:

Pairing One: Boyle-Murray

Why mess with success, right? While this pair was obviously not always up to the challenge of stopping the Sedins on every shift, they still compliment each other very well. With the addition of Brent Burns, they will not be asked to play as many minutes each night. Boyle isn't getting any younger, so this sh...
