Blackhawks shutout Kings 1-0

There is nothing better than perfection and that is exactly what Antti Raanta and the Blackhawks were when they faced a very tough physical LA Kings team. Much has been said about the Kings’ back up netminder Martin Jones who was excellent as well but on this night it was Raanta that was perfect.

The game had all the feel of a playoff game with hard hitting and very close gaps and tight checking which, are staples of playoff games. This type of game should benefit the Kings, but it was the defending Stanley Cup champs that out LAed LA. It proved once again the Blackhawks can play any way you want them to.

The lone Blackhawks’ goal came in the first period by Brando...

Hawks defeat Predators as PP keeps rolling

The Hawks looked to keep rolling as they travelled to Nashville to face off against the Predators and former Hawks Carter Hutton and Viktor Stalberg.  The last time the Hawks played in the Nashville rink this season, they were thoroughly beaten 7-2, but tonight walked away with a 3-1 win.  Bryan Bickell made his return after missing roughly a month with a lower body injury, while Antti Raanta made 27 saves and Patrick Kane scored his team-leading 20th goal in the victory.

The Hawks got on the board early with a wicked shot by Duncan K...

13 Hawks earn points in dominant victory over Flyers

Philadelphia came to Chicago tonight looking for a game against one of the league’s top teams to use as a measuring stick for their own success.  After an embarrassing 7-2 thumping by the Hawks, they may want to reconsider that statement.  13 Blackhawk players would finish the game with at least a point, and Antti Raanta finished with a .933 SV%, proving yet again that he is a very capable goaltender.  Ray Emery, who started against his former team, would allow six goals on 18 shots.

The game got off to a rough start right away, when Sheldon Brookbank and Wayne Simmonds dropped the glove a...

Hawks' rally falls short as Lehtonen steals show

The Chicago Blackhawks pepperd Kari Lehtonen with 50 shots on goal, and rallied in the second period from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game, but it wasn't enough as the Stars took home a 4-3 victory in Chicago's first home game back from the Circus Trip. Lehtonen was outstanding, stopping 47 shots on goal in his 400th NHL game.

The first 10 minutes of the first period were fairly back and forth, with good chances by both the Hawks and the Stars.  Dallas took c...

Hawks defeat Stars in marathon shootout; head to Phoenix to wrap up circus trip

The Hawks finished off the Canada portion of their Circus road trip with a 3-2 SO win against the Dallas Stars, moving their record to 5-1-0 on the circus road trip.  Corey Crawford stayed in strong in net on a night that the Hawks turned over the puck over far more often than usual, stopping 25 shots and denying 10 shooters in the shootout and earning his 100th NHL win in dramatic fashion.

The Stars got the first goal of the night after a bad play and miscommunic...

Hawks score twice in 9 seconds to stun Vancouver

The Hawks and Canucks rivalry has dimmed over the last year as the teams have not faced each other in two consecutive playoff series.  Tonight, however, the hockey didn’t disappoint and the game was fast and fiesty as the Hawks came from behind to take a 2-1 win.  The game was fast and tight, with a battle between goalies Corey Crawford and Roberto Luongo, who went head to head and made 36 and 27 saves, respectively.

The game started with a ba...

Blackhawks head to Nashville for first of back-to-back games

The reunions keep rolling for the Blackhawks as they head to Nashville to play against former Hawks Viktor Stalberg and goalie Carter Hutton just two days after re-acquiring Kris Versteeg.  Versteeg will lace up against the very player who sent him away from the Hawks in a trade to Toronto, Stalberg, who signed as a free agent in Nashville this past summer.

This is the first of back to back games for the Hawks, as they’ll return to the United Center to face off against the San Jose Sharks, their last ho...

Blackhawks take entertaining 5-4 win over Oilers

The Oilers have given the Blackhawks fits over the past few seasons, but tonight, Chicago came out on top.

Brandon Saad opened the night's scoring with a goal for Chicago with 1:37 left in the first period. The Oilers would return the favor by evening up the score on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal in the first minute of the second period.

Simon Gagner was awarded a penalty shot, the call going against Brent Seabrook for holding on a breakaway, but was unsuccessful; Corey Crawford improves to 8-for-8 career success on the shootout.
