Blackhawks drop Game 3 to Kings, 3-1

All the talk swirling around this series for the past two days has centered around the Kings' dominance at home. Through two series, Los Angeles has been 7-0 at home, despite a mostly-poor road performance.

In tonight's game at the Staples Center, the Blackhawks played like they expected the Kings to win. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't until the third period that they looked like they realized they didn't need to give the game away.

On the positive side: despite poor play for two periods, being out-shot (28-20; 60-40 once factoring in all shot attempts) and out-hit, despite being just 41% on the dot and 15 giveaways, the Blackhawks limited the King...

Hawks defeat Flames 3-1

In what has been a truly amazing year the Blackhawks ended their regular season at the United Center in the fashion that they began – winning. The game was really never in doubt from the moment the puck dropped on the Indianhead at center ice.

Like the past couple of games, again the Blackhawks had little to play for except that this group of extraordinary athletes has set a standard for themselves which they have not faltered from all season.

The Hawks jumped on top of the Flames early and often. The score could have been much higher save bounces not going the Hawks way. They completely dominated the Flames in the first period.

The scoring for the Haw...

Blackhawks sweep season series vs Predators

Friday night's game was not the Blackhawks' best - they coughed up 4 goals against the offensively-challenged Nashville (29th in league - average 2.27 goals/game). Chicago is on their way to their first Presidents' Trophy since 1991, and the Predators have already been eliminated.

Five of Chicago's games have come against the Predators this season, and the Blackhawks swept the Nashville series, including two shutouts against them.

At the end of the night, it was a familiar scenario: Marian Hossa putting in the overtime winner to give the Blackhawks a 5-4 win, making long-time fans remember a certain first-round game vs the Preds back in 2010.

Blackhawks Down: Chicago drops second straight to visiting Los Angeles Kings

Dustin Brown scored his twelfth goal of the season with under two minutes remaining to hand the Chicago Blackhawks (24-4-3) their fourth regulation loss of the season in a wild affair that saw the Blackhawks surrender three one-goal leads.

The victory put Los Angeles (18-12-2) ahead of the idle St. Louis Blues for sixth place in the crowded Western Conference race, and moved them within striking distance of division-leading Anaheim. The Kings currently sit ten points back of a suddenly struggling Ducks team with sixteen to play. With two of those remaining games coming against Anaheim, it’s not inconceivable to think that last year’s Stanley Cup Champio...

Blackhawks Edge Canucks; Extend Points Streak to 16 Games

Andrew Shaw and Patrick Kane scored in the shootout and Marian Hossa added two goals in regulation to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to 13-0-3 on the season.

As the horn sounded to signal the end of regulation with the score knotted at three goals apiece, Chicago officially tied the NHL-record-holding 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks by starting the season with sixteen consecutive games without a regulation loss. That Anaheim squad lifted Lord Stanley’s Cup at season’s end, and dreams of a second parade in three years are surely dancing in the heads of Blackhawk fans across the state of Illinois tonight.

Chicago entered tonight’s shootout with a paltry 1-3 r...

Blackhawks crown Kings

The Chicago Blackhawks are one win away from their best start in franchise history with a 3-2 victory over the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings Sunday night. The team’s point streak hits 15. The Blackhawks have yet to lose a game in regulation this season.

The Hawks scored two goals in the first period and a third in the second period. Goals were scored by Brent Seabrook, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Sharp. Duncan Keith assisted on two of the team’s goals.

Kings Center Mike Richards scored two power play goals in the third period to cut the Hawks’ lead to one.

Hawks netminder Ray Emery, who made his second start in a row, had 27 saves in ...

Chicago Blackhawks First Quarter Report Card

The past two seasons were a struggle for the Blackhawks. Although they qualified for the playoffs both years, neither route was ideal.

In 2011, gutted post-Cup victory, they backed into the playoffs based on the Wild's win over the Stars in game 82. The battle leading up to the playoffs left the team battered and tired - yet they still pushed the Canucks to Game 7 OT in the first round.

In 2012, they had a bit more of a cushion, but 101 points in the ultra-competitive West was only good enough for 6th place. Although the Blackhawks pushed the Coyotes to five OT games, and then lost to Phoenix 0-4 in Game 6 on home ice.

Blackhawks close out their road trip at 10-0-2

When considering the game in Nashville tonight, it might have seemed a coin toss who would win. The Blackhawks were on the final game of a six-game road trip that covered 5,300 miles since January 29th. The team would be headed home to Chicago after the game, and you have to think that weighed on their minds.

In the meantime, Nashville shut out the defending Stanley Cup champs 3-0 on Thursday night and then played a tough game in Minnesota on Saturday night, where the Wild beat them 2-1 in overtime.

The team that looked more fatigued on the ice on Sunday night? The Predators.

By the end of the first period, the game remained scoreless, although the Blackha...
