Kings: Week In Review

The Kings collected 6 points before losing to the Canuck's last night in Vancouver, 5-2. Los Angeles' winning streak and Jeff Carter's goal streak came to an end after five games.

It was a week of vengenace as the Kings defeated Colorado, Anaheim and Detroit - all teams they lost to in their first go round. The Kings fell to Vancouver a team they beat 3-2 in January. Today the Kings sit in last place in the Pacific Division and 11th in the Western Conference. After Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Detroit the Kings moved to second in the Pacific and fifth in the West. With a condensed and strictly-Western laden schedule the standings will remain preca...

Kings Look for Sixth Straight In Vancouver

Preview: The Kings (10-6-2; 22 points) travel to Vancouver to play the slumping Canucks (10-5-4; 24 points) tonight at 7. A week ago Los Angeles was last in the Pacific Division but after five consecutive wins they sit in second just behind the Anaheim Ducks. The Canucks stand on top of the Northwest Division but have gone on a lull dropping two straight and collecting only two wins in their last seven games.

With the teams heading in different directions look for a fast and open first period. The Kings have had more success in the beginning of games creating pressure leading to scoring opportunities. Cory Schneider is expected to start in the net for the Canucks...

Game Preview: Kings vs. Avalanche

Preview:

The Kings (7-6-2; 16 points) host the Avalanche (7-7-1; 15 points) today at 1. Capturing two wins in their back-to-back games in Canada the Kings return to the Staples Center where they will play 13 of their next 16 games. A slow start to the season landed the Kings in the basement of the Pacific division one point behind Dallas. Despite their positioning Los Angeles has played more consistently and is poised to make a run. The Avalanche beat the Predators and Blues in their last two games and have Gabriel Landeskog returning. Landeskog scored the game-winning goal in the third period when the Kings lost to the Avalanche, 3-1 in Colorado.

On the last leg of their extended road trip, the Kings did something that has only happened once before this season—win consecutive games. Following a 3-2 win over Edmonton on Tuesday night, the squad finished the Alberta sweep with a 3-1 victory against the hapless Calgary Flames Wednesday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Los Angeles now pulls within one point of the Dallas Stars as they attempt to scratch and claw their way out of the Pacific Division cellar and to be sure, it’s better late than never.

In net, Jonathan Bernier earned the start to...

Game Preview: Flames vs Los Angeles Kings

The Flames kick off a three game homestand tonight as the defending Stanley Cup champions; Los Angeles Kings come to town for the first meeting between the clubs this season. The Flames have underperformed at the Dome thus far with a measly 2-4-2 record. The Kings will conclude their three game road trip after defeating the Oilers 3-1 last night in Edmonton.

Game Preview: Kings vs. Blues

The Kings (3-5-1; 8 points) have a quick turn around after a devastating 3-2 loss in Detroit when they head to St. Louis to take on the Blues (6-4-1; 13 points) tonight at 5. The Kings have dropped their past two games and are 1-3 entering the final leg of their road trip. After a red hot start the Blues are on a four game skid earning only one point. St. Louis lost Saturday night 6-5 (SO) to Anaheim and hope to end their four game home stand on a positive note.

The Kings offensive woes continued in Detroit when they registered a season high 47 shots against Robby Howard only converting two for goals. St. Louis has allowed 22 goals in the past four games with a suspect ...

Game Preview: Desperate Kings Head to Detroit

It might be too early to throw the word "desperate" around but with the way things are going it feels appropriate. The Kings have gone from bad to inconsistant to consinstantly bad. A five game road trip has started 1-2 and both losses have been disheartening. The little momentum the Kings picked up against the lowly Blue Jackets was erased Thursday night suffering a 3-0 shutout loss in Nashville. The Kings (3-4-2; 8 points) travel to Joe Lewis Arena to play the Red Wings (6-4-1; 13 points) for a 9:3...

Struggles Mount, Pressure Increases for Kings

It would have been foolish to assume that the Kings wouldn’t hit a speed bump or two over the course of their road-trip. The second game of their trip, following a relatively easy win against lowly Columbus on Tuesday night, saw the defending champs stroll into Nashville looking for another victory to add to their win total. They didn’t get it.

Despite outshooting the opposition by more than sixteen, the Kings’ offense struggled mightily to register a single goal before bowing out with a final score of 0-3. Predators’ goaltender Pekka Rinne recorded his first s...

Kings Continue Season Slide, Fall to Ducks 7-4

Stanley Cup hangovers have proved to be problems of varying degrees for teams coming off of a championship. Blame the perpetual photo shoot sessions and unending praise from complete strangers and an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment for a sluggish start to a new year. It’s easy to do those things. But when looking at this 48-game schedule, it’s also easy to point towards the especially extended offseason, coupled with the fact that the Kings’ roster is basically identical to the one which won the Stanley Cup last June and wonder why the team isn’t winni...

Power(less) Play

In Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals last year New Jersey's Steve Bernier was called for a five minute major and given a game misconduct when he boarded Rob Scuderi. Despite a dismal track record on extra man opportunities, the Kings blew the game open when Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter, and Trevor Lewis all found the back of the net. The lead was too significant and the Kings won the Stanley Cup after finishing off the Devils, 6-1. Penalties can change the course of a game as quickly as they occur.

In a short but young season where the drama is back on the ice instead of conference rooms the Kings have a problem. After three games (0-2-1) the Kings inability to capitalize on ...
