Carter, Kings Defeat Ducks 4-2

It took three games, but new addition Jeff Carter finally found his scoring touch in Los Angeles. The twenty-seven year old winger netted two pivotal goals on five shots and the Kings defeated their ‘Freeway Faceoff’ opponent Anaheim Ducks by a 4-2 score.

Carter had previously recorded fifteen goals on the year, all of which of course were collected with Columbus. In his final game as a Blue Jacket two weeks earlier, Carter scored a hat tric...

Kings Stifled by Predators, Lose 2-1

The Kings had previously recorded four goals last Wednesday night against Colorado, an offensive output which they have only eclipsed three other times all season long. On this night however, inconsistency reared its ugly head once again as the team netted only one in a 2-1 loss against the Nashville Predators.

Of course, it certainly didn’t hurt the Predators to place Pekka Rinne between the pipes for one of his finest performances of the season. The Finnish goaltend...

What's the next step in the fast-track rebuild?

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a state of flux.

The Leafs, losing eight of its last nine games, appear to have little left in the tank and have been cutting its odds of a post-season berth (down to 30 per cent, according to sportsclubstats.com) with each passing game.

It’s easy to forget, however, that the general consensus in the off-season was that the Leafs would likely miss the playoffs for a seventh-straight season. Despite the panic spreading throughout the fan base, the Leafs are three points removed from the playoffs, with two games in hand over the eight-place Winnipeg Jets. Yes, the stats indicate that the Leafs’ chances are below 50 per cent...

Brown Scores Three, Kings Shutout Blackhawks 4-0

Reunited and it feels so good. Or you know, however that song goes. (Photo courtesy of Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Well, that couldn’t have gone any better. Energized by the addition of one Jeff Carter and propelled by the play of Dustin Brown, the Kings scorched the visiting Chicago Blackhawks en route to a 4-0 final score.

Brown, who as recently as Thursday found himself the center of trendy trade rumors, recorded a natural hat trick in the game first twenty-four minutes of play. He added an assist on the Kings final goal of the evening to register his first four-point performance, matching a career high in th...

On The Couch: Trade Deadline Coverage

In this installment I discuss my take on why the Islanders should look to trade Kyle Okposo to the L.A. Kings for Dustin Brown. And with the trade deadline less than 48 hours away, what should GM Garth Snow do with P.A. Parenteau and Evgeni Nabokov? All that and more in this week's edition of On The Couch!

Deadline Decisions: Forwards

The Red Wings have achieved one of their two deadline goals with the acquisition of Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay. Quincey gives the Red Wings 8 NHL-ready defensemen, a second point man for the 2nd power play unit and some more abrasiveness on the back end.

The Wings still seek some additional depth up front. At different times, the Red Wings' desires have been stated to be a scoring winger to flesh out the top-six or a gritty, defensive forward to provide a physical presence on the 3rd or 4th line. The Wings' performance in their two games since losing Pavel Datsyuk to injury cannot be encouraging. Detroit has looked disengaged at times and has trouble maintaining offen...

Kings Score Three Early, Yet Fall to Coyotes in Shootout

Despite an offensive explosion that no one saw coming (put your hand down, Darryl Sutter), the Kings eventually fell in a shootout to the division rival Phoenix Coyotes by a 5-4 score.

Phoenix tied the game in the final moments of regulation thanks to a somewhat controversial penalty handed to the Kings’ Kyle Clifford for an illegal hit on Gilbert Brule. The hit itself won’t be up for too much debate—Clifford, whether he intended to or not, made contact with the head o...

Kings Fall to Florida, 3-1

Thursday night in Sunrise, Florida the Los Angeles Kings couldn’t have possibly looked more like themselves. (An explanation? Ok.)

It was an offensively challenged contest from start to finish with neither the Panthers or visiting Kings being able to generate more than a few scoring chances. The Kings recorded only twenty-three shots over the course of the game, twelve of which came in the first period. That first frame also handed Los Angeles two power plays, neither of which amounted to m...

Clifford, Brown Lift Kings over Ottawa 4-1

Maybe the Kings were just looking so forward to the upcoming All-Star break. It could be the desire this team felt to send lone All-Star Jonathan Quick off to this weekend’s festivities on a high note. Or perhaps it was a disappointing performance from a surging Ottawa club that helped the home team bust out of their scoreless ways and in a rather resounding fashion. But whichever theory you subscribe to, it won’t change the end result as the Kings trounced the Senators 4-1 earli...

Offense Abysmal in Kings 3-1 Loss to Colorado

Matt Greene (presumbly) wonders when this offensive slump will ever end. (photo courtesy of NHL.com)

The Kings fell to the visiting Colorado Avalanche by a score of 3-1. J.S. Giguere stopped twenty-five of the twenty-six shots he faced and Peter Mueller had the go-ahead goal in just his fifth game back from a career-threatening concussion. It was his third goal of the season after two earlier in the week. Mueller had previously been sidelined since 4/4/2010.

In the losing effort, birthday boy Jonathan Quick was not bad, but clearly frustrated after being dealt his twenty-first loss of the season. The goaltender dre...
