Isles Get A Huge Shoot Out Victory In Winnipeg

The Isles took a big step towards the playoffs yesterday afternoon with another road victory in Winnipeg. Brian Strait was back in the line up, so Matt Carkner sat yesterday.

This was one of the most exciting games this season, with so much on the line for both teams. In the beginning of the first, the Isles looked a little tired. That would not last long though, as Frans Nielsen scored his 6th of the season just 4:21 into the game on a nice play from Okposo and Bailey. (Photo: MVerminski/flickr)

The Flyers Look to Rebound; Host the Jets

After a 5-2 drubbing, the Flyers continue their home stand hosting the Winnipeg Jets. Jakub Voracek hopes to continue his hot streak as the Flyers attempt to reach .500 for the first time this season.

Bryzgalov's Bounce-Back Effort Fuels Win over Jets

24 saves by Ilya Bryzgalov, a rejuvenated defensive effort and two assists by Jakub Voracek propelled the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

The Jets swarmed the Flyers early. Amongst a deafening chorus of "Il-ya" chants from the Winnipeg faithful, a bank off the end boards took an odd hop and Bryzgalov stretched out to make a great save on Bryan Little to keep the game scoreless early.

Failure to Develop a Blue Line May Have Cost the Flyers JvR

Saturday night against Carolina, the Flyers dressed Kimmo Timonen, Luke Schenn, Braydon Coburn, Nicklas Grossmann, Kurtis Foster, and Bruno Gervais as their defense.

All six shared one thing in common -- not a single one of them were drafted by the Flyers.

In fact, the Flyers have a consistent issue with things like that. Since the lost season of 2004-05, the Flyers have not gotten more than 150 games played from a defensemen they drafted and only one home grown defensemen has played more than 200 games in a Flyers uniform since that time, Randy Jones, an undrafted defender.

Islanders Lose Second In A Row But Still Earn A Point Against Winnipeg

During the second intermission, MSG's Peter Ruttgaizer asked Islanders assistant coach Doug Weight what he wanted in the third period and Weight responded, "two goals."

The request was granted, and then some!

Jets Hang On For 1-0 Win Over Coyotes

Shane Doan made his first appearance in a regular season NHL game in Winnipeg since the Jets played their final game in 1996. Although his team was booed relentlessly throughout the game, the 1st round pick of the Winnipeg Jets of '96 was given a standing ovation during the 1st period. It wasn't enough however, as the Jets (2.0) held on for a 1-0 win over the Coyotes.

The crowd was easily the 6th man on the ice in the early stages of the first period. For the first time in recent memory, the entire opposing team was booed whenever they touched the puck, and the negative engery seemed to effect the Coyotes when handling the puck in their own zone.

The Jets applied ...

Game Day: Phoenix Coyotes @ Winnipeg Jets

The Jets: New Edition host the former version of themselves tonight, in the second and final meeting between the two but one that is sure to be more raucous than usual at the MTS Centre, where Shane Doan will return for the first time since a pre-season game against Calgary in 2008 (but before that, 1996). The game will get underway at 8:30 p.m. EST as the Coyotes will look to continue their recent play that saw them rebound from an awful showing against the Canucks in a 5-0 loss to beat Dallas 3-0 and Chicago 4-1. Had it not been for Patrick Sharp's late goal in the third period, Mike Smith would have earned two straight shutouts.

Winnipeg will spend most of its December a...

Chimera leads Caps over Jets

Jason Chimera scored two goals including the overtime winner on Wednesday night as the Washington Capitals edged the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 at the Verizon Center.

Washington opened the scoring 5:23 into the 1st period as Alex Semin took a pass from a streaking Alexander Ovechkin and beat an out of position Ondrej Pavelec.

The Jets tied the game just past the 13-minute mark when Kyle Wellwood made a nifty pass in the neutral zone to Nick Antropov, who dished it to captain Andrew Ladd who put home his 7th of the season to tie the game at 1.

Twelve seconds later, Jason Chimera scored his 7th of the season on a pass from Brooks Laich at the half boards and once aga...
