Game Day: Phoenix Coyotes @ Winnipeg Jets

The Jets: New Edition host the former version of themselves tonight, in the second and final meeting between the two but one that is sure to be more raucous than usual at the MTS Centre, where Shane Doan will return for the first time since a pre-season game against Calgary in 2008 (but before that, 1996). The game will get underway at 8:30 p.m. EST as the Coyotes will look to continue their recent play that saw them rebound from an awful showing against the Canucks in a 5-0 loss to beat Dallas 3-0 and Chicago 4-1. Had it not been for Patrick Sharp's late goal in the third period, Mike Smith would have earned two straight shutouts.

The bad news: The Islanders head into Thursday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets having lost 5 straight games.  The good news: The Islanders recorded a point in each of their last two games, falling in a shootout to the Penguins, and in overtime (amid a controversial call) to the Sharks on Saturday.

Ever since the National Hockey League announced the return of the Winnipeg Jets, all anyone who is a hockey fan has been waiting for is opening day.  If the return of Jets wasn’t enough, the league decided to bring in the most storied franchise as their first opponent:  the Montreal Canadiens.  The summer of logo and sweater unveilings, new coach hirings and player signings is over and now real life in Winnipeg begins.  The hype is over and now it’s time to drop the puck.
