Fat Lady Has Laryngitis, Pens Stun Canucks

Despite it being a relative rarity, it would appear that Sidney Crosby enjoys playing in Vancouver. The Penguins snatched victory from the jaws of the orca with stunning late game heroics on Tuesday night. After back to back backhanders by Chris Higgins and Zack Kassian seventeen seconds apart past the midway point of the third period, the Canucks were looking at a well deserved win over a stout opponent.

Late in the third period, things changed, and suddenly.  A Crosby clean face off win found its way to Kris Letang who fired a slapshot that was slightly screened initially by Ryan Kesler as he dropped to one knee to block the shot. It was just enough to delay Eddie Lack's ...

This is our House; Pens beat Jets and Rangers to Extend Home Win Streak to 12

Despite two wins over the weekend, the biggest headlines in Pittsburgh were the returns of Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and the 12 game home winning streak.

Malkin, who missed nine games due to a leg injury sustained in Detroit, returned Sunday against the Jets in glorious fashion.  Letang also returned on Sunday against the Jets, but will need further time on the ice in order to find his grove.

On Friday, Pittsburgh welcomed divisional for New York Rangers onto Consol ice. It was expected to be a rather close game considering the beat down the Rangers gave the Penguins at MSG just a few weeks back.

Someone forgot to tell Pittsburgh though.

Neal's Overtime Winner Ends Raleigh's Rally

Leading into the first game after the Christmas break, the top news was the confirmation of Pascal Dupuis' ACL injury and that surgery will be needed likely ending his season.  To fill his roster spot, the Penguins had recalled Harry Zolnierczyk to the fold. As well as seeing the return of defenseman Deryk Engelland from his five game suspension for his head hit on Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader.

The first period was mostly controlled by the home side while both teams skated quite well for the first game back from a several day break. Passes for the Penguins were less crisp however and by the end of the first period the shots advantage was 16-7 in favor of the H...

Hawks special teams shine in win against Panthers

The Blackhawks were dominant in a 6-2 win against the Florida Panthers, scoring 3 of their 5 goals on the power play and staying perfect on the penalty kill.  The win was tainted by an injury to starting netminder Corey Crawford, who lasted only 13:45 in the first period before being replaced by Antti Rannta.  Raanta was solid, making 28 saves and allowing only two goals.

The Hawks came out jumping in the first, and needed only 70 seconds to take the lead.  After a bad penalty by former Hawk Tomas Kopecky for high-sticking Niklas Hjalmarsson, Patrick Sharp blasted a high shot from the point on the ensuing power play past goalie Scott Clemmensen, who was screened on th...

Thomas Vanek the Anti Matt Moulson

After another gut wrenching loss, the Islanders must look to thereal reason they are losing. The refs are always bad, Cappy has tried every line configuration there is, and the goalie play has actually been decent. Thomas Vanek has placed the most recent maloik on this team and it is time for everyone to realize it.

Isles Fall In OT To Visiting Pens

Tonight, the Islanders led most of the game. As is the norm, it was the first line of John Tavares, Thomas Vanek and Kyle Okposo who led the way.

After defenseman Thomas Hickey forced a turnover with the Pens skating into the Islanders’ zone, the Isles top line skates into the Pittsburgh zone. Tavares hits Okposo with a pass and the forward skates up the left wing. Okposo then backhands the puck on net where it ricochets off of Pitt defender Olli Maatta and past goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pregame 12/3: Islanders vs. Penguins

The Islanders turn the calendar to December and host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nassau Coliseum tonight for the first time since game 6 of the playoffs last spring. This concludes a 4 game home stand before heading on a West coast road trip. This is the 3rd of 4 meetings between the teams this season and the season series is a win each for both teams.

Isles fall in Pittsburgh on Late D Breakdown and Crosby Goal

After falling behind 2-0 and 3-1, the Islanders came back to tie the game at 3 against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, but Sidney Crosby put in the game deciding goal with less than 2 minutes to play in the 3rd, preventing the Islanders from at least getting one point, which they deserved.

Schenn Scores Twice In Flyers Win Over Penguins

Things are starting to look up in Flyers land.

Brayden Schenn scored twice and Ray Emery was a rock in net as the Flyers won their third straight, beating the Penguins, 2-1, Wednesday night. It's their first official winning streak of the season as they improve to 7-10-1.

Things looked shakey for the Flyers in the first period as they were out-shot 16-8. Pittsburgh came out firing in the opening minute of play and seemingly took a 1-0 lead.

A mad dash in front of Emery resulting from a defensive breakdown by Braydon Coburn resulted in a Chris Kunitz goal. The referees immediately turned to Toronto for help, which determined that Kunitz kicked the puck into the net, negating the opening tally.
