Game Day: Panthers-Rangers

The Florida Panthers will look to snap a recent 4-game slide tonight in New York, as they prepare to play their second game of a 6-game road trip against the Rangers. The Panthers, who currently sit 8 points back of a playoff spot in the East, went 3-0 to start a recent home stand, but finished it off with 3 losses in extra time, before dropping one to the New Jersey Devils 5-2 Sunday night to start the road swing. The Rangers on the other hand are on a 2-game winning streak, with victories over the Atlanta Thrashers and most recently the Washington Capitals on Monday night, both victories were in a shootout, with huge goals via. Mats Zuccarello. Both teams, despite heading in di...

Panthers lose to Tampa 2-1 in a shootout

It seems as if the Florida Panthers are getting use to tight games, as Friday night, the team stretched their streak of consecutive games decided by 1 goal to seven straight. Cory Stillman got things started early, as he took a pass from Shawn Matthias, off a scramble in front and sent a backhand shot past Dan Ellis for his sixth goal of the season. The Lightning would then strike with 5:55 remaining in the first, as Steve Downie snapped a shot which beat Tomas Vokoun off a pass from Steven Stamkos for his 4th of the season to tie things up at 1. Both goaltenders would shut the door from there on out to send the game to overtime. In overtime it was much of the same as neither go...

Panthers in Contract talks with Tomas Vokoun

It seems as though the Florida Panthers are interested in keeping goaltender Tomas Vokoun around after this season is over. According to the Florida Sun Sentinel, the Panthers are in talks with their number one goaltender to extend his contract beyond this season. “He’s not definitely gone,” Panthers general manager Dale Tallon told the Sun Sentinel. “We talked to his agent and while they expressed an interest in staying, we’ve expressed an interest in keeping him, if the offer makes sense.” The 34-year old Vokoun, a native of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic is in the final year of his current 4-year contract signed back in 2006 when he was a part of the Nashville Predator...

Allen nets winner; Panthers down Hurricanes in OT

The Florida Panthers maintained their unbeaten streak in 2011 as they downed the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime Monday night in Raleigh, North Carolina. After losing a two-goal lead in an arena they’ve struggled to win in, the Florida Panthers had reason to brace for the worst. It all got started in the first period as Zac Dalpe scored his second goal of the season on a funny play as Scott Clemmensen got caught behind the net with Canes’ forward Troy Bodie. Bodie flicked the puck in front of the net, and Dalpe easily taped it home for the 1-0 lead at 4:13 of the first period. The lead would not last, as Dennis Wideman tied the game up with :32 seconds remaining in the first,...

Wheeling along; Wheeler scores shootout winner, Bruins down Panthers

Despite having the lead twice in the game, it was the Boston Bruins who walked away with the last laugh Monday night, as the Bruins downed the Florida Panthers, 3-2 in a shootout in Sunrise, Florida. Both goaltenders done a fantastic job keeping the puck out of the net on both ends of the ice, as after the first period both teams entered the dressing room tied 0-0, with Boston outshooting the Panthers 12-10 in the period. David Booth got things started early in the second as he buried his 9th of the season, as he took a pass from Michael Frolik, and sent a beautiful wrister high over Tim Thomas to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead. Boston would then strike half way through the second, a...

Panthers top Islanders; Islanders losing streak climbs to 12 games

The Florida Panthers returned to their winning ways Saturday night as they handed the New York Islanders their 12th straight loss Saturday night in Long Island. The horrid streak started almost a month ago as the Florida Panthers send the Islanders to a 4-3 loss back on Oct, 23rd. The Islanders, for only the second time in their 12-game losing streak, drew first blood as Bryan McCabe sent a pass out in front of his own net, only to have it intercepted by Matt Moulson who took the feed and sent it over the right shoulder of Tomas Vokoun for the 1-0 lead, which the Islanders held going into the second period. Mike Santorelli got things going for the Panthers early in the second period, ...

Horton us; Horton, Bruins down Panthers

Nathan Horton welcomed his former team to TD Garden, and then reminded them why he was their number one guy; as he set up 3 goals, and had his new goaltender Tuukka Rask got the shutout in a 4-0 beat down on the Florida Panthers Thursday night. Rask made 41-saves for his first win of the season as he entered with a poor 0-4-1 record as he had spent most of the season backing up Tim Thomas over his 10-1 start. Thomas already played two games this week, therefore Rask had the start. He stopped everything, including one off his mask. “I felt like a really, really busy guy,” Rask said. Milan Lucic got things started for the Bruins at 15:37 of the first period as he took a drop pas...

Game Day: Panthers-Bruins

The Florida Panthers will try to get their second win in as many nights as they head to TD Garden to take on the Boston Bruins. This will be the first time that Nathan Horton will play his former club since Florida traded him away on June 22nd along with Gregory Campbell for Dennis Wideman, a first-round pick and a third-round pick. Since arriving in Boston, Horton has played 16 games for the Bruins where he has put up 15 points for the B’s. Campbell has added four points to his credit. As for Wideman, he has added 10 points for the Panthers and does play a huge role on their blueline. Florida is currently coming off their third win in four games with a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Thra...

Rock you like a Hurricane: Panthers top Hurricanes

After a mediocre start to the month of October, the Florida Panthers entered Friday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes with a different mindset. Rather than relying on the defence and goaltending to conserve a tight game, they decided to break out in Sunrise, Florida with an offensive slaughter of the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. David Booth got things started early in the first for the Panthers as he fired the puck past Cam Ward just 2:05 into the opening frame for his 5th of the season. Carolina tied the game up at 8:02 of the first period as Erik Cole sent a Jussi Jokinen pass around Tomas Vokoun for his 3rd goal of the year. The Hurricanes then took their only lead of th...

Panthers top 4 rookies

Heading into the 2010-11 season, the Florida Panthers are no doubt considered a long-shot to make the playoffs. While many fans argue that there will not be much excitement from the team, which enter the season as a mediocre group at best, one thing the fans can look forward to is the up-coming rookies that will get a chance to shine. We now take a look into 4 rookies (in no particular order) that the Panthers will have on display this season, and why fans could start to get excited. 1. 19-year old Dmitiri Kulikov was drafted 14th overall by the Panthers in 2009, after doing an amazing job the previous season on the blue line for the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL. In 57 games with...
