Isles 2014 Year End Review

The New York Islanders have ended their 2014 season by finishing 26th in the league, good enough for the fifth overall pick in this year's draft lottery and a 34-37-11 record.

At this time last year, the Isles were 24-17-7, a record that was good enough to place them eighth in the Eastern Conference and allow them to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in a first round playoff series match-up.

Clearly, this was not the direction that the Islanders and their fan-base expected them to travel this year.

Isles Lose 4-3 To The Capitals After Shootout

The New York Islanders saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night when the surrendered a two-goal lead to the Washington Capitals in a 4-3 shootout loss.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 26 of 29 shots, while Braden Holtby knocked aside 35 of 38 as well as each shot he faced in the shootout.

When Will Wang Sell The Isles?

It was recently tweeted by Bob McKenzie of TSN that the owner of the New York Islanders, Charles Wang, is in talks to sell his majority stake hold of the team.

And the social media crowd went wild.

Islanders fans immediately jumped to conclusions about what the sale of the Islanders could mean for the future of the franchise.

3/29/14 Pregame: Islanders Host New Jersey

The New York Islanders return home to the Nassau Coliseum for a 7p.m. puck drop Saturday to take on their longtime rival the New Jersey Devils. This will be the fourth of five meetings between the two this year. The Tampa Bay Lightning outlasted the very, very young New York Islanders in a marathon 13 round shootout last night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Pregame 3/25/14: Isles Head South to Battle Carolina

The New York Islanders hit the road to Raleigh, North Carolina to face the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night, kicking off a mini two-game road trip. The series between the two has been all Carolina since the beginning of the 2012/13 season as the Hurricanes have won all 6 matchups. The Islanders will try to snap the skid while also pulling into a .500 record on the road this season Tuesday night. Postgame 3/15/14: Islanders defeat Sabres 4-1

After a tough loss last night to the Sharks, 24 hours later the Islanders returned to Coliseum ice for only the 2nd match up of the season with the Buffalo Sabres.

After a week in western Canada and 3 days off, the Islanders returned home on Friday night to begin a 4 game home stand welcoming the San Jose Sharks to Nassau Coliseum. They defeated the Sharks in December in San Jose but couldn’t complete the season series sweep on home ice.

Standing in their way are the Buffalo Sabres whose 46 points (19-39-8 record) have it comfortably “ahead” of the 29th place Edmonton Oilers in the race for worst record overall in the NHL and coveted top position in June’s draft lottery.
