11/18/14 Pregame: Isles Look to Zap Lightning

The Islanders play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night as they look to exact revenge on the Lightning for Saturday night’s 5-2 defeat in the Sunshine State. The loss snapped the Isles’ five game win streak but they will look to start up another one at the Nassau Coliseum against a loaded Lightning team.

11/15/14 Pregame: Isles look to strike first in Tampa Bay

This game is the first of a home and home series between the two talented Eastern Conference teams. They will skate again in Uniondale on Tuesday 11/18/14. Tampa Bay and New York’s statistical lines throughout the 2014-15 look extremely similar.

Islanders Edge Champion Kings in Shootout, 2-1

What a difference 24 hours can make.
On Wednesday night as the Islanders prepared to face-off with the Anaheim Ducks, there was a feeling of “here we go again” around the club and fans. An overtime victory in Anaheim followed up by a shoot-out win against the Stanley Cup Champion Kings Thursday night and the good vibes were rolling again on Long Island.

Isles vs. Jets Pre-Game - A Trap Game?

The Islanders will probably need to improve their regular season points-performance (79 or less in each of the last five years-excluding the lockout) by at least 26 points if they are to make the post-season.

Frans Nielsen's Hat Trick Leads Isles To 7-5 Win Over Dallas

The New York Islanders hosted the visiting Dallas Stars tonight at Nassau Coliseum, hoping to take advantage of a team that played on the road last night. They may not be able to say that they did just that, but Frans Nielsen's hat trick helped propel the Islanders to a 7-5 win on home ice.

The first period started with a quick tempo pace from both teams, as they both got plenty of chances early in the game. Chad Johnson was forced to make a sprawling save on a breakaway, and Anders Lindback had plenty of traffic in front for the first twenty.

The traffic in his crease would eventually lead to the first goal by the Isles. Brock Nelson fed the puck to Calvin de Haan at the far side of the Stars’ blue line before letting go of a wrist-shot that was redirected behind Lindback by Anders Lee for his first goal of the year.

Isles Start Strong, Fail To Finish In Pittsburgh

The Penguins beat the Islanders 3-1 behind strong special teams play. Patric Hornqvist had 2 goals including an empty netter, and added an assist. Penguins star Evgeni Malkin had the other Pittsburgh goal and also had a helper on Hornqvist’s first of the game.

The Islanders, who lost for the first time all season, started the game strong. New York jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Thomas Hickey in the first.

Post-Game Reaction 10.16.14 - Fish Sticks Anyone?

For the first time, in a long time, fish sticks don't sound that bad! And with the revival of the Stan Fischler Fisherman Jersey this past week, it seems only fitting that the Islanders drowned the Sharks in a Shootout spectacular that saw Captain Tavares bait Alex Stay-Lock with multiple hooks, lines and the eventual backhand sinker to seal the victory and keep the Islanders afloat in unbeaten waters.

Game Preview: Isles v. Rangers

After sweeping the Hurricanes over the weekend the Isles look ahead to tonight where they face off at MSG against Rangers who are trying to avoid losing 3 in a row.

Though the Isles came out of the weekend victorious, I am sure the staff and players know that there are plenty of problems that still need to be addressed before this team can really make a run.

Filling The Gap On The Top Line

As of now, the New York Islanders do not have a forward that is undeniably the top line winger to play alongside of Kyle Okposo and John Tavares. Last year, the Islanders started the season with Matt Moulson on JT’s wing, who was soon exchanged for Thomas Vanek.

Both Moulson and Vanek fit perfectly on the top line. But with Moulson staying in Buffalo and Vanek currently preparing to wear a Minnesota Wild jersey in 2015, the top spot is once again vacated.

"Center" of Debate

Amid all of the problems facing the Isles and their need to acquire a lot of talent, one place they are set is at center.
