Gill Out, Black Aces Recalled

Hal Gill will be out of the Nashville Predators lineup for Game Four, still battling a lower body injury. The hulking 6 foot 7 Gill would give the Wings fits, blocking even MORE shots than they already have throughout the series.

The Red Wings have also toyed with moving Dan Cleary up to the top line, for what reason? I don't know. Cleary is a third line player at best. He doesn't score and isn't a setup man, so having him up on the top line while Gustav Nyquist rots with Cory Emmerton and Tomas Holmstrom makes no sense to me. Speaking of rookies, elevel Grand Rapids Griffins were called up to be Black Aces for the playoffs.

Skating in the Music City

Strap yourselves in, the Stanley Cup Playoffs start tonight! The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Predators in Nashville in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. This is the third time the two teams have met, with Detroit winning both series in six games (2004, 2008). Many hockey 'experts' are predicting a series win by the Predators, making the Red Wings an underdog, something that they aren't used to being and something they might not be.

Stars Visit the Canadiens

The Stars arrive in Montreal to meet the Habs in a Mardi Gras edition of M├ęchant Mardi; a night where the Habs have done well. Astonishingly, Mike Ribeiro will be playing his first game back in Montreal since being traded to Dallas for Janne Niinimaa and a pick (Andrew Conboy) back in September 2006. The Stars as a franchise have not played in Montreal in a long time - hint - Laraque scored in that game. I understand the reason for the schedule being non equal but seriously. It will be the first time the Bell Centre crowd gets to see the talented Jamie Benn among others.

The Stars are a young, fast team with good goaltending. Looking forward to a good goaltending battle of the Care...

Gill to Predators Trade Analysis

Since the beginning of the season, ownership and management of the Predators said they are committed to winning a cup and proving to its players that they are no longer hiding behind the excuse of being an expansion team.

On Friday, Hal Gill of the Montreal Canadians was traded to the Nashville Predators for Blake Geoffrion, Robert Slaney, and a 2nd round pick and made another statement in the process. While most consider this an overpayment by the Preds, it may not be considering what it means to the organization on top of what it does for the roster.

Over the offseason the predators went with a youth movement because Poile felt that in order to take the necessar...

Game Day: New York Rangers Vs. Montreal Canadiens

New York Rangers Vs. Montreal Canadiens

Bell Centre

Montreal, Quebec

The New York Rangers come in winners of seven in a row.  Coach John Tortorella has the team driving on all cylinders and even Sean Avery is playing, yes just playing.  Is it smoke and mirrors or is the team actually good?  Well for now, let’s just say the team is working hard.  The players who are supposed to score are scoring and Henrik Lundqvist is keeping them in every game.

The Montreal Canadiens welcome the Rangers after visiting the other New York team on Thursday.  Coming off a less than stellar effort on the Island, the team will be encoura...

It's Not About Being Pretty

Montreal Canadiens 3 Phoenix Coyotes 2 (OT)The Habs Get A Needed Win On The Road

When the season schedule is released some games jump out at you.  There are some games that excite you.  There are some games that you plan for.  And then there was last night’s game.  A game in Phonenix on a Thursday night in the middle of November which comprises one of the 82 the Habs will play.   Playing the Coyotes in Phoenix has become the least exciting part of any teams’ season.

So, all you can hope for is an easy win and to get out of Arizona without any injuries.  Last night’s win wasn’t easy.  It wasn’t pr...
