Bruins Visit Bell Centre

One of the longest rivalries in the NHL writes a new chapter on Bell Centre ice this evening as the Boston Bruins visit the Montreal Canadiens. It was surprising to learn that this is the final encounter of the season (barring a playoff miracle) between these two forever rivals.

The Bruins are fresh off a shutout loss last night against the New York Rangers and, as a result, will probably be in a snarly mood. The Habs are coming off of a loss in what was supposed to be a must win game against Carolina, 5-3.

The Habs are in disarray in this season of out discontent, with frustration being shown at all levels of the organization. Two of the players...

It's a Miracle - Gomez Scores - On A Power Play

The Montreal Canadiens visited the New York Islanders this evening for a tilt in the Nassau County Mausoleum. The scratches on the Habs side were the newly arrived Aaron Palushaj and the injured Yannick Weber (lower body). Earlier in the day the Catholic Diocese of Montreal called for all Catholics to pray for the redemption of the season for the Habs. It has worked before, after all, with 24 Stanley Cups for the team.

The first period began with a flourish for the visitors. Max Pacioretty streaked in on the right side and beat Evgeni Nabokov on a perfect shot over the goalie's shoulder for his twentieth of the season. The lone assist on the play went to Erik Cole. Both teams ex...

Call The Hurricanes In When You Need An Easy Win

Carolina Hurricanes 0 - Montreal Canadiens 4

Throughout the season each team circles certain games on the schedule as rivalry tilts or games that have special meaning.  On the other hand there are the games that have no extra motivation other than the points.  Well the game last night was just that.

Over the past few years, playing the Carolina Hurricanes has become that.  I would rank a game against the Hurricanes in Montreal the hardest ticket to sell.  And then add the fact that the Habs have to fly out to Long Island to play the back end of two games in two nights, a lackluster performance would have...

It's Not About Being Pretty

Montreal Canadiens 3 Phoenix Coyotes 2 (OT)The Habs Get A Needed Win On The Road

When the season schedule is released some games jump out at you.  There are some games that excite you.  There are some games that you plan for.  And then there was last night’s game.  A game in Phonenix on a Thursday night in the middle of November which comprises one of the 82 the Habs will play.   Playing the Coyotes in Phoenix has become the least exciting part of any teams’ season.

So, all you can hope for is an easy win and to get out of Arizona without any injuries.  Last night’s win wasn’t easy.  It wasn’t pr...

Game Day: Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Montreal Canadiens

Game DayToronto Maple Leafs Vs. Montreal CanadiensBell Centre

Montreal, Quebec

I have decided not to bring up the last Habs’ game, actually I have decided not to bring up any games this season.  Let just say the season starts tonight.

Whatever anyone else has to say or whatever anyone else thinks, the biggest rivalry in hockey anywhere in the world is taking place tonight in Montreal.  The Leafs are coming off their first regulation loss and are looking for their second win against the Habs this season.

Yes, the Leafs started last season much the same way but we can all agree that this team is different and the optimism flowing on the sidewalks of Yo...
