Erik Cole: Patience Required

When you look up and down the stats page for the Montreal Canadiens, there really shouldn't be all that many surprises. Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec lead the team in points, Scott Gomez only has one assist in 4 games, PK Subban leads the team in ice time per game, the usual stuff.

But travel a little further down the various lists, and you'll find a somewhat surprising stat line.

Four years, $18 million, and a no-movement clause, and the Canadiens high profile UFA-day acquisition only has an assist in four games? What's more, he's barely been averaging 14:30 minutes of ice time?

Something's not right ...

Game 3 : Flames @ Habs

It's opening night in Habs Town.  The Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens are ready to battle in the first of two meetings this season.  To make things even more special tonight, this could be the 100th win for the Habs' 24-year-old goaltender, Carey Price. A win would put him in an elite class with Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur.

The Flames come into this matchup having lost their first two games this season, putting them in somewhat of a desperate situation to pick up a win.  Montreal also has a ton of pressure on their back.  After a horrible pre-season and a lackluster opening night game with the Leafs, the Habs are looking to impress their...

Habs Win Impressive Victory In Winnipeg; Lose Two More To Injury

It was an odd night for the Montreal Canadiens. Not only were they taking part of history at the MTS Center in Winnipeg, as the first opponents of the newly reinstated Winnipeg Jets, but they were also looking for their first win of the season, after dropping a 2-0 decision in Toronto on Thursday night.

Impressions weren't exactly at their highest after that first game, but that was only one game for the Canadiens. Cobwebs were being swept away and the team was searching for chemistry after a tumultuous pre-season, which included injuries, new players, and even a couple of late acquisitions

Things didn't seem like t...

Chris Campoli's Injury A Matter of "Months"

It was less than two weeks ago that we were discussing the signing of defenseman Chris Campoli. Was the young defenseman, rejected no more than three months ago by the Chicago Blackhawks after an arbitration hearing, going to have a positive impact on the Canadiens' blueline. Was this a panic signing by General Manager Pierre Gauthier, after mulling over the bad Andrei Markov news coming into training camp? Or was Campoli just another Paul Mara or Brent Sopel, acquired for no other reason than to keep a seat on the bench warm?

Whatever your original opinion on the defenseman may have been, it was now been rendered irrelevant, thanks to a freak...

Habs Pick Up Blair Betts Off Waivers

It's convenient that today is the day TCL launches its brand new Flyers team site. Apparently, Pierre Gauthier got the memo, and decided to pick Blair Betts off of waivers, according to RDS.

Okay, that makes no sense, and it was totally a cheap plug for our new site. Moving on...

Betts comes to the Canadiens after being cut by the Philadelphia Flyers out of training camp. Before you panic and wonder why the Habs need a Flyers castaway, keep in mind that Philadelphia is incredibly deep up front, and needed to make room for several youngsters, including the recently drafted Sean Couturier, who is slated to start the season with the NHL clu...

Updated: No Suspension for Ryan Malone For Campoli Hit

Updated:

While we weren't blessed with Brendan Shanahan's beautiful face in one of his suspension videos, the Shanhammer did offer his take on the hit, and why no suspension was handed down.

“We felt that this hit was the most challenging one so far in this preseason for the Department of Player Safety to evaluate. In the end, we felt that Malone had committed to the hit when Campoli was upright. However, when the contact was made, Campoli's head posit...

Game 7 : Preseason Bolts @ Habs

Tonight will be the 7th game for the Habs this pre-season, finishing the week off with back to back games against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  As we near closer to the first game of regular season you can expect to see, from both teams, some more realistic rosters.

Chris Campoli will make his debut in Montreal tonight, pairing with Gorges on the blueline.  You can also expect to see Peter Budaj between the pipes. Starting lineups should look a little like this: Cammalleri-Plekanec-ColePacioretty-Gomez-GallagherAK-Desharnais-Gionta

Bournival-Engqvist-Blunden

Gill-DiazGorges-Campoli

Yemelin-Subban

I think it's safe to say that it hasn't been the most in...

Habs Make First Round of Cuts; Who's Still Here?

It's been an eventful training camp for the Montreal Canadiens thanks to, among other reasons, yesterday's Chris Campoli signing. Some players have impressed, some have surprised us, while others have left Jacques Martin and his coaching staff unexcited, and that of course means cuts.

With the recent spell of four games in four nights in the books, the Canadiens finally announced the first few waves of cuts:

Defensemen --

Nathan Beaulieu: The 2011 first round pick impressed many at training camp, but it's obviously in his best interest to continue his QMJHL career at 18-years-old. The 6'2" 175lbs defenseman still has a frame to fill ...
