Game Preview:Blackhawks vs. Canucks

CHI v. VAN- Game Preview

9:00pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks renew one the National Hockey League’s most bitter rivalries. This game could be a Western Conference finals preview.

The Blackhawks are coming off of a shootout loss to the Phoenix Coyotes. The Canucks come off of a shootout win of their own over the Detroit Red Wings. It’s going to be weird if Detroit doesn’t make the playoffs. That’s another blog for another day.

Both teams are in the NHL’s top ten in penalty kill percentage. The Blackhawks check in at number four while Vancouver checks in at number seven.

Patrick Kane and Jonatha...

Kings Look for Sixth Straight In Vancouver

Preview: The Kings (10-6-2; 22 points) travel to Vancouver to play the slumping Canucks (10-5-4; 24 points) tonight at 7. A week ago Los Angeles was last in the Pacific Division but after five consecutive wins they sit in second just behind the Anaheim Ducks. The Canucks stand on top of the Northwest Division but have gone on a lull dropping two straight and collecting only two wins in their last seven games.

With the teams heading in different directions look for a fast and open first period. The Kings have had more success in the beginning of games creating pressure leading to scoring opportunities. Cory Schneider is expected to start in the net for the Canucks...

TCL Round 1 Staff Predictions: Vancouver Canucks vs. Los Angeles Kings

( 1 ) VANCOUVER CANUCKS vs. ( 8 ) LOS ANGELES KINGS

The Vancouver Canucks aren't exactly the most liked team in the NHL, especially after the antics of both their players and their fans in last year's playoffs. Add to that their injuries and woes this season (despite finishing first in the West), and you'll have a hard time finding too many people openly cheering for them to go too far this year. But it's hard to deny their depth and their talent. Luongo not playing well? No problem, you've got Schneider. Daniel Sedin still out with a concussion? Plenty of forwards to try and ease the pain. But on the other side of the ice is a hungry Los Angel...

Wings look to continue home win streak against Vancouver

It's a showdown between the top two teams in the Western Conference, and right now the Red Wings lead the season series 2-1.

But a lot has changed since the last meeting between these two. The Red Wings have made history and now hold a 23 game consecutive win streak at the Joe. The Canucks are now only two points behind the Wings. And the Wings also happen to be without their star forward Pavel Datsyuk.

The 33 year-old is expected to miss a month after having surgery on his knee. Datsyuk 16 goals and 43 assists this season, so it is to no surprise that fans may be a bit nervous about his absence.

"Pav's been out before and he's a huge part of our team bu...

Game Preview: Flames vs Vancouver Canucks

We celebrate a game today that means so much too so many Canadians and we are united by the beautiful game we call hockey for Hockey Day in Canada. The Canucks come into the dome tonight red hot, riding a 3 game winning streak while the Flames look to continue to push for that final playoff spot after losing Thursday night in Phoenix, 2-1 in OT. This is the fourth of six meetings between these Northwest division rivals, as the Canucks won the first two meetings with the combined score of 10-2 while the Flames took the last meeting 3-1 in Vancouver.

Game Day: Habs vs. Canucks

The Montreal Canadiens will look to bounce back from a slightly embarrassing 3-2 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday evening, as they prepare to face the Vancouver Canucks at the Bell Centre.

Logic would dictate that the Habs will be looking at another loss after tonight's game, but this team doesn't exactly follow the laws of physics. If this season has proven anything, it's that when their backs are up against the wall (i.e., the coach's job seems to be in jeopardy), this team will bust out a win against the most unlikely opponent. It happened in Winnipeg when the Canadiens beat the Jets in their long-awaited home opener. It happened...

Game Day: Vancouver Canucks @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Coyotes come from similar situations in both the Northwest and Pacific divisions, where even if wins do come on a regular basis, it's pretty hard to tell.  Despite having won four of their last six games, Phoenix sits seventh in the Western Conference and second-to-last in their own division, whereas the Stanley Cup finalists have won five of seven and aren't even in the playoffs as they sit in 11th spot, 3rd in the Northwest.

Last season these two teams split the series, each grabbing two wins in their opponent's rink (Phoenix won 3-1 and 3-2 at Rogers Arena, while Vancouver took the games at Jobing.com Arena by scores of 4-3 ...

Vancouver Canucks Quarter Mark Reviews: Henrik Sedin

The Vancouver Canucks’ hockey season is about a quarter of the way through and that means it is the perfect time to do player reviews. It has often been said that the twenty game mark is when General Managers and coaches begin looking at the roster for possible moves and improvements. For bloggers, like myself, it is no different. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be working my way through the Canucks roster giving a review for each player. Next up is Henrik Sedin.

I’ve got to give Henrik a lot of credit. He has been the better Sedin as of late and he really isn’t showing signs of slowing down. With 7 goals in 20 games to go along with 22 points and a +6 rat...

Islanders Outmatched by Canucks

The Islanders fell by a score of 4 – 1 to the Vancouver Canucks at Rodgers Arena.  Despite patches of outplaying their opponents, the Islanders were simply outmatched by last season’s Western Conference champions.

Once again, the Islanders let up a goal on the first shot against them, courtesy of Aaron Rome (3 points), just two minutes in to the game.  The rest of the first period was a gutty effort by the Islanders, who killed off a penalty to finish the frame, which saw no other goals in the period.

A scary moment occurred early in the first period for Islanders fans when Matt Moulson left the ice to head to the trainer’s room.  He was ...

Flyers Win Wild One, 5-4

In a penalty-riddled game that felt more like a track meet, the Philadelphia Flyers improved to 3-0-0 with a 5-4 win over the defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks (1-1-1).

It was Claude Giroux who got the scoring started in the contest as he tallied power-play goal just 7:14 into the first period. Five minutes later, Chris Pronger added a power-play goal of his own to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead.
