Ex-Red Wings Still Contributing Since 2009. Kenny's Decisions.

With the Red Wings booted out of the playoff early for the first time since 2006, questions swirl around the players, coaching, and management. During the Wings’ 21 year playoff streak, they won Western Conference Championships, Presidents Trophies, six Cup Final appearances, and four Stanley Cups. Much of the credit goes to the general manager: Ken Holland.

Looking Ahead: Where do Wings Go from Here?

It's that time if year again, but this year it has come painfully early. The Detroit Red Wings have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, dropping their 1st Round series with the Nashville Predators. It is the first time since 2006 VS the Edmonton Oilers that the Red Wings have exited the playoffs in the opening round. This loss is exceptionally painful to deal with. Detroit's play looked stagnant and uninspired, scoring only 9 goals over the course of the 5-game series, at some points barely making Pekka Rinne break a sweat.

Wings lose game 1 in Nashville

Wings fell in a close match against the Nashville Predators, giving the Preds a 1-0 series lead for the first round of the playoffs.

Henrik Zetterberg: Potential Wings Captain?

Henrik Zetterberg is an all-star player, in the past and present. “Z” or "Zetty the Grizzly Teddy" has landed 68 points in the 81 games he has played this season. The assistant captain’s career has been very successful thus so far, making him a eligible candidate for the potential position opening up at the end of this season: captain.

Nicklas Lidstrom was deemed captain in 2006 after the famous Steve Yzerman retired. However, before Lidstrom was named, rumors spread that Zetterberg may be up for the title. No one is complaining about the “C’ sewn on #5’s jersey, but it seems even more likely that &ldq...

Wings Defeated By Lowly Jackets

The lowly Jackets did not look so “lowly” last night in the game they faced against the Detroit Red Wings at 7:30PM. The Wings were not able to capitalize the way they did in the game against the Jackets on Monday, March 26th when the Wings won 7 to 2. The final score won't please you that way, I promise. Unless you are a Columbus fan of course.

The Wings made plenty of poor mistakes giving the Jackets the chance to capitalize early in the game and giving them a momentum that the Wings just could not shatter. Goalie Allen York started for the second time this season for the Jackets and was said to be so excited he could not even sleep, which could have added to ...

Wings want to avoid Blue Jackets revenge

Everything went the Wings' way on Monday night. They can only hope for something similar tonight as they head to Columbus for their final meeting against the Blue Jackets this season.

Monday saw the Wings dominate on home ice, with a 7-2 victory. The win sealed the 21st consecutive playoff trip for Detroit, the longest record of any professional sports franchise in North America.

Tomas Holmstrom had two of the goals, and Henrik Zetterberg and Todd Bertuzzi each had four assists on the night. Captain Nicklas Lidstrom even had a goal for his grand return after being injured.

Wings have been stellar at home this season, but does a trip to Columbus worry them? Based on t...

Gustav Nyquist is the Most Exciting Red Wings Rookie Since...

The last seven games haven't been the best games the Detroit Red Wings have played, but they are definitely the best seven games rookie Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has played (1 goal, 5 assists). Wings fans should feel ecstatic because they can watch a star grow, from the age of 22, which may as well be considered an infant by Red Wings management.

Fans no longer have to keep their fingers crossed, watching Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, and Pavel Datsyuk and hope they continue to produce into their 30s. It seems the Red Wings have truly found their new "Euro-Twin". It wasn't too long ago that we were watching Zetterberg and Datsyuk when...

Can Detroit Make A New Streak?

Tonight the Detroit Red Wings will have a chance to get ahead in the league again in their match-off with the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. The Wings will take on the Jackets on home ice at the Joe Louis Arena at 7:30PM.

The Wings are currently in sixth place in the National Hockey League and Columbus still sits at the bottom of the standings. Detroit is 3-1 against Columbus this season, only losing once in Columbus back in October. The Jackets being so low standing leaves many Wings fans feeling relieved about the next two games on the schedule. However, every team in this league is fantastic and in order to win, the Wings must bring all of their effort.

Rick Nash is always a ...

Sochi-Bound Red Wings

There are almost two years until the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia however the gears of preparation are well into use. Canada has tapped Red Wing legend Steve Yzerman to return as executive director for Canada. Wings GM Ken Holland will be a key member of Yzerman's support staff, however it's doubtful Yzerman and Holland will be the only two people with Red Wing ties at Sochi.

Of course rosters change and the Red Wings are in for a moderate overhaul over the next two seasons but there are some shoe-ins to be Olympians, some players who would be on the bubble if selections were today and some youngsters that may push for a bid as they develop.

Wings lose in OT; Extend losing streak to 6

It was a frustrating night for the Detroit Red Wings...again.

Ryan Callahan scored the OT winner with a perfect assist from Michael Del Zotto to give the Wings their sixth consecutive loss. So what went wrong?

The Wings showed a poor display of defense tonight, especially in the third period, leaving Callahan with 8 total shots on goal. The Wings also looked very slow in the third, leaving Ty Conklin virtually all by himself in the net.

But that wouldn't phase Conklin too much as he had 32 saves along with .942 save percentage in the game. Safe to say he was the Wings strongest player tonight.

The Wings were scored on in their first penalty kill attempt, but th...
