Each and every game continues to get more and more important for the Flames as they head into Anaheim to face the Ducks tonight. This is the second of four meetings between the clubs, with the Flames winning the first game 1-0 in overtime. It’s easy to say tonight is a must win for the club but tonight is a MUST WIN. The Ducks have been playing much better hockey of late but any team that is lower in the standings, the Flames have to beat in order to give them any sort of chance erasing the 4 point gap between them and 8th place. Saying that tonight’s task won’t be easy as the Flames haven’t won in Anaheim in nearly 8 years. They have lost 13 straight games at the Honda Center with their last victory coming on January 19, 2004.
The second half for the Flames kicks-off tonight and it doesn’t start easy as they host the Detroit Red Wings, who are 1st place in the Western Conference and lead the league with 67 points. Tonight’s match-up will be the 4th and final one between the teams as the Flames have won 2 of 3 thus far.
I get the impression people want the old fogies of the team sold and replaced by young up-and-comers. They believe doing this will improve the Flames' 8-14-4 road record.
I would agree, if Calgary had a lot of old fogies.
The Flames have the eighth oldest team in the league with an average age of just over 28. Safe to say that unlike the Oilers and Avalanche, they can grow facial hair. But unlike Detroit, they need mouthguards and can’t just take out their dentures before games.
The Flames welcome a familiar face back to the Dome when Darryl Sutter and his Los Angeles Kings come rolling in.
But Darryl isn't the only one being welcomed back as Mike Cammalleri makes his Flames re-debut after being involved in that blockbuster trade on Thursday night.
The Flames have won 8 in a row at home and will look to get within a point of the 7th place Kings with a win.
CALGARY FLAMES (20-19-5 45 points) vs. ANAHEIM DUCKS (13-22-6 32 points) GAME #45
It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest of victories as the Flames were outshot 35-14 but the Flames could really do nothing but score as they managed to get the 2 points Tuesday night defeating the New Jersey Devils 6-3. It was the Flames second win in a row and 7th in a row at home, giving them good momentum as they host the Ducks down at the Dome tonight.
The Flames top line of Jarome Iginla, Olli Jokinen and Curtis Glencross continue to show why they’re the Flames number one line, combining for 9 points against the Devils. The trio will have to continue tha...
CALGARY FLAMES (19-19-5 43 points) vs. NEW JERSEY DEVILS (23-16-2 48 points) GAME #44
The Flames come into tonight’s game after an emotional 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. The game was one of milestones for the Flames as before the game Olli Jokinen was honored for playing 1,000 career games (January 1st vs. Nashville), Lance Bouma scored his first NHL goal and most notably, Jarome Iginla scored his 500th career goal. Iginla became the 42nd player in NHL history to reach the milestone on a night many Flames fans won’t soon forget. The Flames will look to carry that emotion into tonight’s game as they host the Devi...
The warm and fuzzies are still there for most Flames fans, it’s hard not to be a little upbeat after having one game that encompassed a win, Jarome’s 500th goal, celebrating Jokinen’s 1000th game, Bouma’s first goal, and a milestone for the coach as well.
That’s all well and good. However this is still the same team that lost 9-0 a couple games ago though. This is still the team that is 12th in the west as of today. We as fans have to be realistic, the warm and fuzzy feelings do not reflect what is real.
The Calgary Flames are simply a team that is mediocre most nights with the occasional brillian...
Last night's loss to the Vancouver Canucks was the first regulation loss in ten games for the Detroit Red Wings. At the tail end of a Western Canadian road trip, this game means a lot for a team desperately trying to improve it's away record, which currently is under 500.
The Red Wings and Flames have met twice already this season, both times at Joe Louis Arena. Calgary took the first meeting 4-1 while Detroit ran away with the second 5-3.
Looking at Calgary, they are an enigma. They have talent but can't turn it into wins. Captain Jarome Iginla can hit 500 career goals tonight with a hat trick, and with his line-mates Olli Jokinen and Curtis Glencross, it isn'...
I get that including big names in the rumour mill means that more attention will be drawn to whoever is posting it (from their basement wearing underwear) but history shows that the reality is the big star you hope your team will land is actually not on the market. The reason your favorite rumour mongers are more often wrong than right is that they are always looking for the grand slam instead of the bunt.
I do not know one “insider” that called the Krys Barch to Florida deal and I follow quite a few on twitter, furthermore if they did call it no one was jumping up and down to exclaim they call the deal. Realistically these are the deals that get made during the season. ...
