After Six Failed Attempts, .500 Seems to Be Elusive For Flyers

Six times the Flyers attempted to get their record back to .500 and six times they have failed so far this season.

At 9-11-1, you have to start to wonder why that has been the case. It happened again last night when the Flyers dropped a home game 4-2 to the Maple Leafs, playing flat for the first 50 minutes of the game.

Is it mental? Are they snake-bitten? Or is this all just one big coincidence? Regardless, the Flyers need to earn every point they can get their hands on because this is a shortened season and every point matters just a little bit more if a team wants to make the playoffs.

Flyers Struggle to Get to the .500 Hump Again; Lose to Toronto, 4-2

Getting to .500 has been an uphill battle for the Flyers and it continued on Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

An absolute sluggish outing until the final half of the third period cost the Flyers a chance to even up in the standings and get some much-needed points. And though the Leafs were almost equally as sluggish, they came out with the 4-2 win in Philadelphia.

Perhaps the Flyers are pressing to get to .500, but whatever it is, the effort was poor once again. Head coach Peter Laviolette didn't think they were pressing though.

JvR Returns to Philadelphia as the Flyers Host the Maple Leafs

Former Flyers winger James van Riemsdyk returns to Philadelphia for the first time since being traded this off season for Luke Schenn. He already has a goal against his former team back in Toronto and he is looking for more.

Schenn-sational effort propels Flyers over Jets

With Matt Read scheduled to miss six weeks, the Flyers knew that the offensive contributions had to come from other places.

The Flyers answered the bell as the likes of Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek led the team to a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon.

With 11:03 left in the third period, Schenn worked his magic. Schenn received the puck and dished a gorgeous backhand pass to Wayne Simmonds for the slam dunk goal to give the Flyers a 4-3 lead.

It was their first lead of the game and ended up being the game-winning goal. Zac Rinaldo added an empty-netter as time expired.

The Flyers Look to Rebound; Host the Jets

After a 5-2 drubbing, the Flyers continue their home stand hosting the Winnipeg Jets. Jakub Voracek hopes to continue his hot streak as the Flyers attempt to reach .500 for the first time this season.

Back-to-Backs Prove to Be Frustrating For the Flyers

The shortened season has certainly had an effect around the league this year.

Players have been getting hurt and the fatigue factor has been settling in despite not even being half way through the season. The biggest factor in the fatigue has been all of the back-to-back games being played.

They've been especially hard on the Flyers, who fell to 2-4-0 in those games after getting drubbed 5-2 at the hands of the Panthers on Thursday.

A part of the lackadaisical performance could be attributed to the emotionally-charged 6-5 win in Pittsburgh the previous night. The trip itself between the Steel City and Philadelphia wasn't exhausting.

Huber-dos: Panthers Rookie Scores Twice in Rout of Flyers

It was the Jonathan Huberdeau Show in Philadelphia Thursday night, and the fans weren't too thrilled to watch him perform.

The Panthers 19-year-old rookie scored a pair goals, chasing Ilya Bryzgalov from the game en route to a 5-2 win for the Panthers. He also added two assists to complete a four-point night.

The opening 10 minutes resembled much of the game last night against Pittsburgh. But this time the Flyers didn't have a quick enough answer for the Panthers and it set the tone for the loss.

Homecoming: Flyers Come Back Home for Five Games Starting With the Panthers

After a road trip that saw the Flyers go 3-3-0, they come home for five games. They look to ride the momentum of 13 goals in two games against the Florida Panthers tonight in Philadelphia.

Vora-Trick: Jakub Voracek's Hat Trick Wins Game for the Flyers

It was Rival Night on NBC, and the Flyers and Penguins delivered.

Jakub Voracek's hat trick goal proved to be the game-winner in a wild 6-5 victory for the Flyers at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The game featured lead changes and blown leads,

The opening 10 minutes of the first period looked to be damning for the Flyers.

Playing completely flat-footed against a faster team almost spelled their early demise. Pittsburgh scored two quick goals, and possibly a third, jumping out to a 2-0 lead and 12-2 shot advantage.

Flyers Face Penguins in Rivalry Showdown

Round two of the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals from last year will occur in Pittsburgh tonight. One of the most potent offenses in the entire league will test the Flyers' defense. It's Rivalry Night in Western Pennsylvania.
