Flyers Look to Take Advantage of Struggling Devils

New Jersey has lost 10 straight. Philadelphia has won two in a row and are looking to keep going. Will the skid halt in Philly or will the Flyers keep hot and make the standings more interesting?

Bryzgalov Backs Up Comments; Rock Solid During PK, Shoot-Out

The Flyers had five minutes of overtime to work with in hopes to not allow the game to carry to a shoot-out.

What many consider to be a glorified skills competition, the Flyers have considered their lack of success in the final determination of the second point to be a nightmare. It's been especially hard on Ilya Bryzgalov, who was going to be the netminder of choice in the Flyers dance with chance.

Dancing With the Devils: Bryz Steals Two Points In Must-Win Scenario

Despite going to the shootout, the Flyers managed to escape their home-and-home against New Jersey with two points.

Backed behind a brilliant game by Ilya Bryzgalov, the Flyers needed a full 65 minutes and three rounds of the shootout to beat the Devils, 2-1, and earn an incredibly important two points in their win on Friday night.

Despite going 0-for-4 on the power play, they held the Devils scoreless on their power play attempts as well, and a part of that was a result to Bryzgalov's timely saves.

Bryzgalov stopped 21 shots in the win, including 11 in the third period and over time despite his team being out-played and out-shot, 11-5, in those two frames.

Flyers Start Home-and-Home in New Jersey

Jersey Fresh: Flyers Look to Pick Two Points in the Garden State

Caps Fall 3-2 to the Devils in OT

Well that was a bit better, right?

Entering tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils, the Capitals were the only team in the NHL without a point.

Through the first 50 or so minutes, that didn’t look like changing anytime soon.

Stephen Gionta opened the scoring for the Devils with a wide-open look after some nifty moves by Jacob Josefson.  Caps’ goaltender Michael Neuvirth didn’t stand a chance.

Patrick Elias added a goal from a 5-on-3 power-play in the 2nd period.  The Caps have already given up four 5-on-3 opportunities, and have allowed goals during all of them.  Not good.

Offensive woes continue for Flyers

As has been the case through their first two games, the Flyers got off to a slow start and struggled with special teams once again.

Bad mistakes, bad bounces and an overall bad effort lead the Flyers to a 3-0 loss against the New Jersey Devils Tuesday night.

Isles Fall To Devils 2-1 In Home Opener

The New York Islanders opened their abbreviated 48-game season tonight with a 2-1 regulation loss at home to the defending Eastern Conference champs, the New Jersey Devils.

A sold out crowd was introduced to the 2012-2013 roster before puck drop. However, head coach Jack Capuano was missing, forcing assistant coach Doug Weight to take over along with Brent Thompson. Capuano missed the game due to a medical reason that was not disclosed to the media. It had been mentioned in the locker room that it is not life threatening, and that an update will likely be provided tomorrow.

But for the Isles, playing without their head coach behind the bench might have thrown the team for a bit of loop by the time the first period was underway. The Isles provided a lot of sloppy play in their end of the ice which resulted in poorly executed break outs and many mistakes in the neutral zone.
