Islanders Acquire Cal Clutterbuck from Minnesota

The Islanders have built the core of their young team through the NHL Entry Draft and this year they looked to continue that trend. GM Garth Snow added one NHL ready player on draft day this year, Cal Clutterbuck. Clutterbuck was not drafted though, he was acquired through a trade with the Minnesota Wild. Game Day: Habs at a Crossroads As They Travel to Long Island

Last Sunday on the CBC broadcast of the Habs' win over the Jets, the network aired a sit down interview between Elliotte Friedman and Carey Price. The Canadiens' goaltender proceeded to describe this season for his team in one (and a half) words: "rollercoaster."

Well, that's an understatement. The Canadiens have had so many highs and lows this season that you'd think they were a malfunctioning hot air balloon. It really is the perfect way to describe them. On one hand, you have a team that's essentially one Hurricanes' win away (don't worry, those aren't coming any easier either...

Isles Link Checks 12/16/11

Check out Evan Pivnick's showcase some of the best Isles stories around the web from the past few days!

Isles Look To Continue Recent Success Against Crosby-Less Pens

When you hear that the Islanders and Penguins are facing each other again, the first thought that pops into the average NHL fan's mind is the February 11th game (or "The Brawl Game" as I like to call it) when these two teams went over 400 penalty minutes. But that game is in the past, tonight the Isles face the Pens in search of two points and move up in the standings.

Islanders Cannot Let Lightning Strike on the Island Tonight

The Islanders return home for a 3 game home stand tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning are coming off on a 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators last night. The Isles are coming off a 5-4 win over Dallas which may be referred to in the future as the "Moulson Game".

The Lightning have had a struggling season so far. At 11-13-2, the Bolts turn to their leading scorer Steven Stamkos (16 goals, 13 assists, to get them over .500. There is a defenseman the Lightning acquired over the offseason that has been putting points on the board in when he is in the lineup; hold on to your hats here Isles fans, but that player is Bruno Gervais. Gervais has 2 goals, 1 assist in 7 games so far this season for the Bolts and it seems as if he has found his fit in Tampa.

Hawks Prepare to Battle Islanders

The Chicago Blackhawks will look to rebound tonight from their previous 4-1 trouncing by the defensive-minded Phoenix Coyotes when they get ready to face the struggling New York Islanders at the United Center. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

All too often goaltenders are evaluated solely based on their recent statistics with little consideration for how the team in front of them is playing. This tends to happen because, well, it's just easier.

Corey Crawford, who is expected to get the start tonight, has somewhat unfortunate statistics in his last 5 games. More specifically, it's difficult to pin-down the inconsistency of not jus...

Thankfully You're a Sharks Fan

As Sharks fans, we all have a lot to be thankful for. I mean, we could be Islanders or Blue Jackets fans, so already we're pretty happy. And Sharks fans are lucky to be treated to a quality on ice performance night after night, plus a management that is committed to winning and has shown it. As an organization, the Sharks themselves have much to be thankful for as well: 1. Captain Joe Thornton -  Personally, i wouldn't want anybody else captaining the Sharks. Thornton has shown that he wants nothing more than to win, and to win in San Jose. He is committed to this team, he is committed to winning, and he is committed to being the best player on the ice every night. The Sharks...

Habs Stink Up Long Island; But What's The Bigger Picture?

The Montreal Canadiens are wearing me out this season. If any of the other authors on the site are reading this, they're probably going to kill me for speaking to you, the readers, in the first person while I write a game recap, but honestly, this is kind of a special case. This article, or rather blog (screw it, rant), is not meant as a straightforward game recap or analysis. There's a much bigger problem plaguing this team than what last night's horrid loss to the Isles may have even indicated, and it's about time that problem was addressed.

For 19 games now, we've been going through the motions, recapping and previewing game...

Let's Try This Again, Shall We? GAMEDAY: Isles @ Penguins

After being shutout by the Penguins on Tuesday night in a brutal loss, the Islanders travel to Pittsburgh to tie up the home and home. Putting Tuesday night's loss far behind them, the Islanders seem to have some good news as defenseman Milan Jurcina could to be ready to go for tonight's game.

Although Jack Capuano has yet to announce tonight's starting goaltender, it is irrelevant if the Islanders' offense cannot do their job. The Penguins are too good of a team for the Isles to rely only on their goaltender to get them the win. Offense will most definitely be key in this matchup. But let's not forget the defense; The Penguins that faced the Islanders on Tuesday...

IT'S GAMEDAY! Islanders @ Tampa: Isles Look to Grab 4th Straight Win

The Islanders travel to Tampa to take on the Lightning tonight after a stretch of five days without a game. In their last bout, the Isles defeated the Bolts by the score of 5-1. A game which triggered John Tavares’ recent scoring outburst, putting up two goals and two assists in that victory.

Coach Jack Capuano announced yesterday that he would be bringing all three goaltenders on the road trip. Considering Rick DiPietro is recovering from a concussion, this is a good sign that he will be returning soon. As for the other two goaltenders, Coach Capuano has yet to announce who will be in goal tonight.

He could start Al Montoya and his glistening goals against average of 1....
