Blackhawks Down: Chicago drops second straight to visiting Los Angeles Kings

Dustin Brown scored his twelfth goal of the season with under two minutes remaining to hand the Chicago Blackhawks (24-4-3) their fourth regulation loss of the season in a wild affair that saw the Blackhawks surrender three one-goal leads.

The victory put Los Angeles (18-12-2) ahead of the idle St. Louis Blues for sixth place in the crowded Western Conference race, and moved them within striking distance of division-leading Anaheim. The Kings currently sit ten points back of a suddenly struggling Ducks team with sixteen to play. With two of those remaining games coming against Anaheim, it’s not inconceivable to think that last year’s Stanley Cup Champio...

Blackhawks get revenge from Avalanche

The Blackhawks wanted payback when they stepped onto the ice against the Colorado Avalanche last night. The team that ended the record points streak now knows what's it like to be on the receiving end of a lopsided game. The Blackhawks beat the Avalanche 5-2 .The chants of "Let's go Hawks" made the Pepsi Center sound like a home game for the visitors.

Jimmy Hayes and Andrew Shaw scored first period goals for the Blackhawks. The Avalanche’s first goal came from Gabriel Landeskog when he skated right around Brent Seabrook for a shorthanded goal .Seabrook was benched by coach Joel Quenneville after he was caught out of position defensively. Sea...

Blackhawks at Stars: Game Preview

CHI@DAL- Game Preview

7:00pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks are back on track and ready to perform tonight in Dallas against the Stars for the second time this season.

The Hawks prevented a three game skid on Thursday night, taking the shootout win over the stellar looking Blue Jackets 2-1 to end the Chicago/Columbus series.

The Blackhawks (22-2-3) brought up big Jimmy Hayes to fill the 2nd line spot left empty by Patrick Sharp and his shoulder injurt that will have him off the ice another 2-3 weeks. Hayes filled the position well, but more importantly the solid 3rd and 4th lines were restored to early season form and Johnny Oduya notched his first goal of the season.<...

Chicago looks to sweep series vs. surging Blue Jackets to begin their road trip

As the NHL announced this morning that the NHL Board has approved realignment,  tonight's game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets will mark the last time the two teams face each other as division rivals.

Next season, the Blue Jackets, along with fellow Central division rival Detroit Red Wings, will move to the Eastern Conference. Under the new alignment, Columbus will join a division composed of mid-Atlantic teams, and the Red Wings will move to a division made up of a mix of eastern Candian teams, Buffalo, Boston, both Florida teams, and Detroit. Chicago's division will consist of the three remaining Central teams, plus Minnesota, Winnipe...

Benefits to Finishing in Sixth?

There are three games left and the Detroit Red Wings can do themselves a huge favour. They control their own destiny for fourth place if they finish 3-0. In the first round, they'd play a Central Division rival, Nashville or Chicago. Finishing anything other than 3-0 leaves far too much guess work as to who else they might play, especially if they finish sixth (one point separates fourth through sixth).

This is definitely unfamiliar territory for Red Wings fans, who might find this season unacceptable; even with all the injuries, and even considering the team has made the playoffs 21 years in a row. There is always talk about whether finishing in a higher seed&nbs...

Blackhawks clip the Wings at the United Center, 2-1

Once again, the Blackhawks found themselves in a 0-1 hole early in the first. But also once again, Chicago stayed calm and stuck to keeping plays simple. They were eventually rewarded for their effort with a win, breaking the Red Wings' 6-game winning streak.

Valtteri Filppula opened the scoring for Detroit just 2:22 into the game in the dying seconds of Chicago's early penalty (tripping) by Marcus Kruger. The goal snapped the Blackhawks' impressive PK streak, which had been flawless the last few games; and then Corey Crawford slammed the door shut for the rest of the game.

It took another 25 minutes of pla...

Wings Lose Critical Match Up Vs Chicago

Well, Jimmy Howard was the only star for the Wings in the loss against the Chicago Blackhawks. The original six rivalry between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings continued tonight, but Chicago took the win.

The day started action packed already; Pavel Datsyuk out for two weeks due to knee surgery, Jonathan Toews out with an upper body injury, Kyle Quincey traded to the Wings but not in time to play against Chicago, MacDonald officially the back-up goalie for Detroit, and lastly Jimmy Howard and Danny Cleary back on ice for the Wings. It was safe to say Wings fans were just a little nervous coming into tonight’s game. The Wings ...

Blackhawks punish Sabres 6-2

This would be a rare meeting between two hockey clubs. Being that one is in the East and the other in the West these clubs do not face each other often and are unfamiliar with each other’s tendencies. This will in fact be the only meeting this year between the two teams.

These clubs are also going in different directions. Buffalo is fourth in their division and eleventh in the Eastern Conference with a 19-21-5 record and the face of the franchise goalie Ryan Miller is struggling. In fact for this game Buffalo went with Jhonas Enroth in net. Miller however is not the only one however who needs to play better for Buffalo.

 The Blackhawks were coming...

Blackhawks take a bite out of the Sharks

The Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks last faced off in San Jose in early December, a tight 3-2 OT win. Before that was the 0-1 loss in San Jose the night before Thanksgiving, a game which saw Chicago battling back after suffering a crushing - and humiliating - 9-2 loss to Edmonton a few nights before.

Since that time, Chicago has played well enough to land themselves in constant competition for the number one position in the West. Likewise, the Sharks have finally found some smoother sailing after rough patches to start the season, and have now clawed their way to the top of the struggling Pacific division. Of course, they still have ex-Blackhawk (and Cup-winning) Antti Niemi sig...

Game preview: Getting Wild in Chicago

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks last met up on a rainy day in mid-December in St. Paul. The Blackhawks came away with a shoot out win, with Patrick Kane providing a memorable goal to seal the win.

It was the second game in an eight-game losing streak for the Wild; including being shut out 0-4 by the Canucks on Vancouver ice. The Wild have had just 2 wins in their past 13 games; their record in that stretch is 2-8-3. It is a far cry from the 20-7-3 that Minnesota started the season with; and the Wild has plunged from first in the West to 7th, hanging on ahead of the rising Los Angeles Kings. The Wild has been hurt by injuries; Clayton Stoner just returned to the roster...
