The Long Road Trip Starts in Montreal

Two of the most storied franchises in NHL history. A match up between Original Six teams. The final game before the All-Star break. All of these factors culminate in what might be one of the more underrated games in the season.

As the first half of the season has shown, these teams certainly don't have much in common at this point.

The Red Wings (8-2-0) are sitting on top of the NHL with a seven-game win streak, and 17 consecutive victories at home, a franchise record. They haven't been the strongest team on the road, but the momentum they have right now can only be easing that pain.

The Canadiens (4-4-2) are 12th in the Eastern conference and are trying to get o...

Shootout Success Supplies Sixteenth Straight At Home

The Red Wings are now riding a six game winning streak thanks in no small part to their new found success in the shootout. Detroit was able to secure their sixteenth straight win at Joe Louis by beating the NHL-worst Blue Jackets 3-2.

Detroit didn’t show much life at the start of the game and Ryan Russell of Columbus struck first at 8:51 off a rebound. The Red Wings tied it at 1 off a wicked wrister by Kronwall at 11:34 of the first. The only penalty in the first was a hooking call on Tomas Holmstrom. The Blue Jackets outshot Detroit 7-5.

The Red Wings came out stronger in the second and carried much of the p...

Howard: Legend in the Making or Short-Lived Star?

The twenty-seven year old has been having a phenomenal season. With a league leading 28 wins, Howard has been mentioned to possibly be up for the Vezina Trophy and MVP this year. Even though Jim Howard has had a great season, is it possible Howard is just receiving his fifteen minutes of fame or is he a legend in the making?

Many have had conflicting opinions about the Red Wings goalie, but I have been a fan since day one. James “Jimmy” Russell Howard III has been passionate about his job as a goalie since the start. Jim has been a part of the game since he was a teen. When just 17, Howard played for the U.S. National Team Development P...

Bertuzzi: A Threat Nobody is Worried About

It's no secret to anyone who follows the Red Wings: they're a great team with a lot of talent.

It's also to nobody's surprise that this talented team is having a near-stellar season up to this point. The team's Thursday night victory over Phoenix sent them to the top spot in the division, conference and League.

Aside from the stellar performances by Jimmy Howard and Pavel Datsyuk, who else should other teams be concerned about when facing Detroit? The easy answer is everybody not named Jonathan Ericsson, but the player of interest for this feature is Todd Bertuzzi.

Big Bert, as fans and players know him, is far past his most productive seasons in the ...

Wings Seeking 5th Straight Win

The Detroit Red Wings soar into the desert this evening riding a four game win-streak to take on their familair foe, the Phoenix Coyotes. This is the third meeting of the season between these two teams, with the Wings having won both. These teams are no strangers to one another, having met in the first round of the playoffs the last two seasons, with the Wings winning both times. The Coyotes currently sit 11th in the tightly contested Western Conference, just 3 points out of 8th. The Wings sit 2nd in the Central Division, sitting one point behind the Blackhawks with a game in hand. A win tonight leapfrogs the Wings into first. Look for Jimmy Howard to start his 39th game of the y...

A Team Desperate To Shine

The Detroit Red Wings made history last night as they set a new franchise record for consecutive home wins, which is very telling about their performance this season.

In a dominating display of both offense and defense, the Wings have extended their win streak at the Joe to 15 games. Jimmy Howard earned his fifth shut out of the season and Pavel Datsyuk earned his 700th career point. Last night's victory does not reflect the team's lackluster road performance though.

"We haven't done as well as want on the road," said Jimmy Howard after last night's win against Buffalo.

The Wings are only 11-13-0 on the road this season, which ...

Wings Set Franchise Record At 15 Home Game Wins Against The Sabres

The Detroit Red Wings win their 15th consecutive home game against the Buffalo Sabres. The Wings broke the past franchise records for consecutive home game wins and helped Howard receive his 10th career shutout!

First Period: The first period appeared to be a very successful period for the Wings. With only one penalty and three goals leading them to the second period, anyone would be assured. However, the Wings and Sabres fought back and forth for the puck which is proven in the shots on goal stats for the period. The puck control was not as solid as it could be for Detroit. A great first goal from Zetterberg took the Wings to a 1 to 0 lead. Toward...

Wings Go For 14th Straight Home Win on the 14th

With Friday the 13th in the past, Detroit faces off against Chicago today on home ice for a nationally televised matinee. The Wings are coming off a 3-2 comeback victory against Phoenix that was Mike Babcock's 400th win and Jimmy Howard's 100th. Detroit seeks to tie their franchise record for consecutive home wins set during the 1964-65 season. Only two points separate the teams, with St. Louis sitting in between them.

The two previous games have been just as close as their place in the standings with both being decided 3-2. Chicago won once in regulation and Detroit won last week in overtime. Today's game should be no different.

The Blackhawks' are missing sco...

Wings Help Howard Reach 100th Career Win Against Phoenix

Detroit Red Wings steal their 13th consecutive home game from the Phoenix Coyotes!

First Period: The Wings came out strong at the start of the period. It took 9 minutes of playing before a goal was made. Phoenix was the one to steal the first goal, which was scored by Vrbata. After Vrbata’s goal, the Wings seemed to have a rough second half of the period. The last couple minutes had good pressure from the Wings though. With only 51 seconds left of the first, the Wings finally got a shot past Smith. Filppula made a beautiful goal with an assist from White. The period ended at a 1 to 1 tie. SOG: 13 Detroit vs 9 Phoenix.

Second Period: The...

Pavel's A Game-Time Decision for Phoenix

The Red Wings happily return to Joe Louis tonight to take on the Phoenix Coyotes. Detroit seeks their 13th straight home win but may have to play another game without their top forward. Datsyuk will take the warmups to see if his groin has improved enough to play. If not Jan Mursak will probably make his season debut after returning from his conditioning stint in Grand Rapids.

Detroit needs to rebound after an unsightly 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders. The Wings hope to repeat their previous performance against Phoenix this season. Detroit glided to a 5-2 victory at the JLA after a 5 goal first period. The Coyotes were playing their third game in four nights and tonight's is ...
