Strange Game Equals Away Game Win for Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have a strange win against the Dallas Stars, a final score of 5 to 4.

First Period: As usual, the first goal came from the Wings. Zetterberg grabbed a rebound from Hudler but instead of sending it to the net again, he passed it to the open Filppula. Filppula pretty much had an open net. Red Wings were up 1 to 0. The next goal came from the same line; Hudler redirected a shot from Zetterberg into the net. The goal was looked over for review, but there was no kicking motion from Hudler’s redirect. Only 50 seconds later, the Stars’ Eriksson scored their first goal. The period ended positively with another goal scored ...

Red Wings continue playing on the road against Stars

It's the second of four meetings between the Red Wings and the Stars, who both sit in a tight Western Conference. Wings came away with a 5-2 victory at the Joe in November, but both teams are 6-4-0 in their last ten games.

Both teams perform better at home than on the road, but the Wings are working on improving in that department. They only have two losses at home in regulation, compared to six for the Stars.

The Stars are already sitting at tenth in the conference and will have quite a challenge to overcome tonight as they go against Jimmy Howard, who earned his fourth shut out of the season against St. Louis on Saturday. Howard leads all goalies in the NHL w...

Howard Earns 4th Shutout vs St Louis

A beautiful win for the Detroit Red Wings! A 3 to 0 shutout for Jimmy Howard against the Saint Louis Blues to lead Detroit to their 12th home game win.

First Period: The first period was eventful, but not on the scoreboard. The Wings and Blues went through the entire period without scoring. The second penalty the Blues received was to Cole for a rough elbow to Abdelkader’s face. Abdelkader fell, got up and fell again. He appeared listless and headed to the “quiet” room to be evaluated for concussion-like symptoms. The period ended 0 to 0 between the two teams. SOG: Tied at 10 to 10.

Second Period: Started with a great surpri...

Round 1: Blackhawks edge Red Wings, 3-2

Five more of those please!

The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings put on sixty minutes of playoff-like hockey in front of a season high 22,166 at the United Center Friday night and the Hawks prevailed in the end with a 3-2 victory.

For sixty minutes, it seemed as though the only stoppages in play were for the two intermissions. The game opened with five or six minutes of continuous, back-and-forth action before the first whistle was ever blown.

Justin Abdelkader gave the Red Wings the early lead half-way through the first period after a big rebound was given up by Hawks goalie Corey Crawford. It seemed to sit there in the slot forever after the initial Drew Miller ...

Close Match Between Detroit and Chicago

The Detroit Red Wings fall short in a fast-paced game with a 3 to 2 loss against the League-Leaders, the Chicago Blackhawks.

First Period: The first period started very physical between the two teams. We even saw a fight from Bertuzzi and Carcillo. The first goal came after 9 minutes of play to the Red Wings. Abdelkader scored a goal with an assist from Miller. Only 5 minutes later, Toews headed towards the net and the refs made a terrible hooking call to Lidstrӧm, giving Toews a penalty shot. The penalty shot turned into a goal that tied the game. The Wings had the...

Filppula and Howard shine as Red Wings dominate Predators

The pressure was on for the Red Wings tonight as they played the Predators in Nashville. Division standings, conference standings and an already lackluster season performance on the road did not prevent them from getting the job done.

The Wings looked great on both sides of the ice during the first period. Valtteri Filppula's first period goal gave the team much needed motivation as Nashville didn't answer until the end of the third. By then, the Wings were already up 4-1.

Detroit didn't let up in the second period as goals from Pavel Datsyuk and Danny Cleary contributed to their dominance. A fourth goal in the third, Filppula's second of the night...

Red Wings can take the edge in the series against Predators

So far the series is split between Detroit and Nashville.

The Red Wings dominated against the Predators in November with 4-1 victory at home, but Nashville managed to comeback against Detroit just two weeks ago on home ice with a 4-3 win. And there is much more than the series riding on this game.

Right now the Wings are third in their division, with very little room for error both ahead and behind them. Even closer is the race to stay in the Western Conference's top eight. The Wings are currently sixth in the conference, with the Preds sitting at eighth.

The Red Wings are lacking in road victories as of late, dropping five of the last seven attemp...

Detroit's Defensive Skills Cost Them The Game Against Vancouver

The Detroit Red Wings are beaten for the first time in two games against the Vancouver Cancucks, a 4 to 2 loss.

First Period: The first ten minutes of the period was constant battling for the puck between the Cancucks and the Wings. At 9:36 into the period, Vancouver’s Higgins scored the first goal of the game after a bad give away from the Wings. Only 21 seconds later, Vancouver scored again! Hodgson scored the second goal for the Cancucks. It seemed that the Wings defense was missing for both of the goals. The Wings came back with a goal from Bertuzzi. His goal was assisted by Dastyuk and White. It was only two minutes later, with a little over 4 minutes left in the first, V...

Game Preview: Red Wings @ Nashville

Earlier this season, the Wings easily defeated the Predators on home ice. Tonight, the two teams meet for their second of six scheduled regular season games, this time in Nashville.

The momentum is on both sides tonight as the Wings and Predators are both looking for a fourth consecutive win. So far this season, Nashville has faired better at home than on the road, so even with them currently being ranked fourth in the division (Wings are second), the home advantage may prove to be useful.

If Nashville plans on stopping Detroit however, it is going to require making Pavel Datsyuk a non-factor. The Wings center has 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in his last 12 games. 8 of thos...

Wings Continue Rolling, Franzen, Filppula Still Hot

The Detroit Red Wings won their seventh consecutive game tonight as they defeated the battered and bruised Buffalo Sabres. This is also the fourth straight win away from the Joe for the men who wear the winged wheel.

The Wings got off to a great start in the first, and had the Sabres on their heels early. Jakub Kindl netted his first of the year, as the defenceman get in on the scoring yet again. Johan Franzen continues his fantastic year, when he put one high blocker side past Enroth on the powerplay after a nice feed from Lidstrom. Just over a minute after the Franzen tally, Valtteri Filppula continued his hot streak with his 8th goal of the season.

Jimmy Howard continu...
