An Overlooked Issue from Round 1

There were a lot of things to like in the Hawks 5-1 win against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday afternoon.  The stars produced, the penalty kill was stellar, and though it was a lot closer than it looked, the Hawks held on and sent the Blues packing in the first round.

But lost amidst the emotional high that comes with winning a playoff series was one seemingly minor lineup change that could have major impacts on the Hawks in later playoff games that wasn't he...

Blackhawks face Wild for last time during regular season

In 2011, the Minnesota Wild gave the Blackhawks a gift: by beating the Dallas Stars in their final game of the season, it sent Chicago to the playoffs.

This past week, the Wild again secured the Blackhawks a playoff berth with a win. However, this time, Chicago was already sitting in a comfortable position; it was just a matter of clinching.

The two Central division rivals face off for the last time of the regular season on Thursday night at the United Center. Both teams are under .500 for their past ten games; the Wild have gone 4-4-2 and the Blackhawks have gone 4-5-1.

Chicago would like to get two points to keep their hope of home ice in the playoffs alive. ...

Hawks travel to Minnesota for first of back-to-back games

The Blackhawks (20-5-4) were only able to enjoy the confines of the United Center for one game, a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Dallas, before packing up and hiting the road again.  The Hawks travel to Minnesota to face the Wild (16-8-5), a team that has dropped three of their last four games after an otherwise impressive November.

The secret to the Wild's success lies largely in goaltender Josh Harding, who has put up outstanding numbers with a league-leading 1.45 GAA, and his stellar SV % of .939 trails only King's goalie Ben Scrivens.  Minnesota currently sits in the first wild card position in the Western conference with 37 points, and a win could catapault them in...

Blackhawks win 3-2 over Islanders; prepare for first back-to-back games

After giving up two goals to the Islanders in the final minute of the first period, Friday night's game was at risk of going the direction of the Blackhawks' last two games.

Coach Joel Quenneville's line blender was on frappé after two tough losses; but the new lines produced.

The scoring started with Blackhawks rookie Joakim Nordström, who tallied his first NHL goal 9:32 into the first period. Jonathan Toews would push the score to 2-0 at 16:05, gathering a rebound off Duncan Keith's shot, which had deflected behind the Islanders' goal.

Josh Bailey would get the Islanders on the scoresheet at 19:06 in the first; Kyle Okposo would fol...

Five changes & five questions as the Blackhawks start the new season

It seems like just yesterday that the Blackhawks were skating triumphantly on Boston ice, raising Lord Stanley aloft for the second time in four seasons.

Tuesday night, the summer comes full circle as the puck drops on a new season, and the Blackhawks raise their fifth Stanley Cup banner to the rafters at the United Center.

Let's look back at the moves the Blackhawks made this summer, and ahead to the 2013-2014 season.

FIVE CHANGES THE BLACKHAWKS MADE THIS SUMMER

1. Dave Bolland, Daniel Carcillo, and Michael Frolik were traded out of town. These two moves freed up several million in cap space, and gave the Blackhawks the ability to resign so...
