NHL Playoffs: Maple Leafs Face Bruins in Do or Die Situation

Game 5 in Boston, 7pm ESTBruins Lead, 3-1

BOSTON -- Here we are: the Toronto Maple Leafs' first do or die game in nine years. If they defeat the Boston Bruins tonight, they live to play one more game. If they lose, it will be time to hit the golf course.

Let the jokes begin.

In all seriousness, this game is a big one for the city of Toronto and fans of the Maple Leafs. The last time people were so invested in the Blue and White was when the team sat above the Eastern Conference standings early in the 2011-2012 season only to crash and burn to a 13th place finish. Fans hope the team will come away with a better result but history isn't o...

Isles Hang Tough, Hand Leafs A Home Loss As The Quest For The Playoffs Continues

There is a saying, most often associated with old time hockey, that says, "how can you beat em on the ice if you can't beat em in the alley?" Well, the New York Islanders certainly must have felt that way tonight as they skated to a 5-3 regulation victory over the hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.

Failure to Develop a Blue Line May Have Cost the Flyers JvR

Saturday night against Carolina, the Flyers dressed Kimmo Timonen, Luke Schenn, Braydon Coburn, Nicklas Grossmann, Kurtis Foster, and Bruno Gervais as their defense.

All six shared one thing in common -- not a single one of them were drafted by the Flyers.

In fact, the Flyers have a consistent issue with things like that. Since the lost season of 2004-05, the Flyers have not gotten more than 150 games played from a defensemen they drafted and only one home grown defensemen has played more than 200 games in a Flyers uniform since that time, Randy Jones, an undrafted defender.

Islanders vs. Maple Leafs 1/24/13: Isles Begin 5-Game Road Trip in Toronto

The New York Islanders kick off their first road trip of the season tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. It will be the first of three meetings between the two teams during the shortened 48-game season.

With healthy head coach Jack Capuano back behind the bench, the Isles came out on Monday afternoon with confidence and agility. They look to keep the momentum going tonight and pick up another two points. (Photo Credit: gbalogh/Flickr)

Everything Is Clicking for the Flyers Going Down the Stretch

It’s hard to believe that there are only 16 games left in the regular season.

This is the point where those on the cusp decide their fate, and those locked in begin to look ahead to the postseason.

The Philadelphia Flyers (38-21-7) currently sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference and will most likely be heading to the playoffs.

Despite a drastically different roster than last season’s and countless injuries throughout the lineup, the team has been in the mix since the start of the season.

An NHL All-Star Game Mock Draft

One of the exciting things about the NHL All-Star Game, and perhaps, it's uniqueness so to say is the fact it touches back on our childhood.

Remember the days of playing pick-up hockey, or sports for that matter. You throw your sticks into the circle and someone would randomly toss a stick to each side and that would be the team you played for that day.

Well, unfortunately there will be no sticks in the ring but the sentiment is still there. Tonight at 8 PM, the NHL will hold it's second All-Star Game under the new formula: a draft-style that enables two captains to choose which all-stars they want on their squad.

The All-Star Game is meant to be fun, not competi...

Red Wings and Maple Leafs prepare for Original Six showdown

It's the only time this season these Original Six teams will be facing each other, and right now Detroit currently has the bragging rights after a victory at Joe Louis Arena last March.

The Red Wings survived their last game against the Dallas stars with a 5-4 victory, while the Maple Leafs dominated against Winnipeg in a 4-0 victory that saw goals from Phil Kessel, Clarke MacArthur, Mikhail Grabovski and Tim Connolly.

Detroit is fighting to get the top spot in the Central division right now, and are only a single point behind the Blackhawks. The Leafs on the other hand are in the middle of their division, but are closely chasing the Senators. So what could mak...

Islanders Get Mowed Down By Leafs 5-3

The Islanders took on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night in both teams final game before the holiday break. With the loss to the Rangers on Thursday night, the Islanders were definitely lacking confidence and it showed.

The Isles faced a Maple Leafs team who are having a pretty good season so far. Even with some injury...

Moulson Is Seeing Stars

Matt Moulson scored the first four-goal game of his NHL career Saturday night against the Dallas Stars; it was also the first individual four-goal game of the 2012 season. As a result, the Islanders were able to hold on for a thrilling 5-4 win.

Although the win is what ultimately matters most for the Islanders, who took seven out of eight possibly points on their four-game road trip, Moulson was the recipient of this week's NHL's First Star honors.
