The Blackhawks swept the season series they said.

After the outcome of game three, the reports of the demise of the Detroit Red Wings were grossly underestimated.

The Chicago Blackhawks knew going in that the Red Wings were going to do whatever they could to get them off of their game. Detroit's strategy working thus far. The Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 3-1 to take a decisive 2-1 lead in the best of seven Western Conference semifinal.

One had to figure coming into this evening's game that the Detroit Red Wings were going to show some spirit, perhaps even two games worth. It would've been the least they could after their embarrassing showing in front of their own fans yesterday. Sure enough, the Wings played with passion and put their 7-1 drubbing from Chicago behind them and pulled out to a 3-0 lead on the Colorado Avalanche, holding on for a 3-2 final.

There was speculation that, after the elation of the 2-game sweep of the Ducks in Anaheim, Detroit may suffer a hangover of sorts as they entered Jobing.com Arena for their matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes. To an extent, the speculators may have been right, but fans were treated to a welcome sight, as Detroit managed to rally from a temporary meltdown and battle back to claim their third straight win, defeating Phoenix 3-2.

With the second half of the season well underway, the Red Wings know there are games they need to win even if the odds are against them. Last night was one of those games, as Detroit skated into Honda Centre and reminded the Anaheim Ducks how to play a good road game. Justin Abdelkader exploded offensively, notching his first NHL career hat trick, and Pavel Datsyuk got goal #250 and assist #500 of his career in what was a stellar outing for the Wings. Both players will more than likely say, however, that the best part of last night was earning 2 points against a hot team that many expected more tenacity from.

There are a number of factors that led to the 4-2 defeat the Red Wings suffered tonight at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, a team who had not won on JLA ice since 2006. Even the final score is misleading, as the match wasn't even technically as close as it might lead one to believe. Devin Setoguchi scored a pair and multiple miscues by Detroit made this an easy one for the Wild. Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller notched the two Wings goals, though Miller's came with mere seconds left on the clock in the 3rd. For all intents and purposes, this game should be treated as a 4-1 loss.

Recently, coach Mike Babcock put a call out to his goalies saying they needed to step up and be better. Jimmy Howard has answered that call ever since, and did so again last night as the Red Wings defeated Colorado 2-1. Jimmy Howard made 36 saves and came ever-so-close to earning his 13th career shutout, but everything the Avs threw at Howard was not enough.

The Wings may not have been victorious, but if they were one thing they were certainly determined.

Detroit fell into a 2-0 deficit early in the game, but managed to claw their way to a 3-3 tie before the end of regulation. What little luck The Red Wings had found ran dry shortly thereafter though, as Predator captain Shea Weber capitalized on a bad defensive decision and a fortunate bounce, scoring the OT winner to finish off Detroit 4-3.

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their winning streak last night by way of a 2-1 overtime victory against their Central Division rival Detroit Red Wings to move to 6-0-0 on the season, their best start in franchise history. Not too bad. The winning tally came just over halfway through the extra period, when a Detroit turnover in the Chicago defensive zone led to a deep outlet pass to Hawks winger Viktor Stalberg. Detroit Red Wings have somewhat of a comeback from their last game against the Blues on Saturday night. Safe to call it a victory? We think so. The Wings started strong. The first period gave a surge of energy to Red Wings fans everywhere. "We have our Wings back" was a common theme across social networking sites tonight. However, the Wings seemed to have a battle ahead. The game ended in a tie, sending the Wings to overtime and a shootout.
