Gustav Nyquist is the Most Exciting Red Wings Rookie Since...

The last seven games haven't been the best games the Detroit Red Wings have played, but they are definitely the best seven games rookie Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has played (1 goal, 5 assists). Wings fans should feel ecstatic because they can watch a star grow, from the age of 22, which may as well be considered an infant by Red Wings management.

Fans no longer have to keep their fingers crossed, watching Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, and Pavel Datsyuk and hope they continue to produce into their 30s. It seems the Red Wings have truly found their new "Euro-Twin". It wasn't too long ago that we were watching Zetterberg and Datsyuk when...

Falling Wings Look To Capitalize At Home

The Red Wings return home to face off against the Washington Capitals at 7:30 PM tonight. The injuries continue to mount for Detroit as Johan Franzen (back spasms) and Darren Helm (MCL sprain) have joined several others on the injured list. Detroit's Central Division title hopes are fading quickly and now the focus is on keeping a lead over Nashville for the 4th seed and home ice advantage in the first round.

Washington is battling Florida for the Southeast title and its possible the division winner will be the only team from the Southeast to make it into the playoffs. The Caps are 8th in the East and currently 5 points back of Florida and 2 points ahead of division rival Wi...

Datsyuk is Back for Game Tonight!

Detroit rounds up their road trip tonight, facing the San Jose Sharks at 10:30PM. Their last ten games have been quite rough, standing 3-6-1. San Jose is not all that much better at 3-4-3. Who will be able to come out on top in this last regular season meeting?

The Wings beat the Sharks in their last meeting on February 19th, where the Wings won their 23rd consecutive home game. However, the Sharks won two of the three meetings this season. The Wings have one major advantage. Two words: Pavel Datsyuk. That’s right, Datsyuk has announced his return to the ice for the game tonight and I could not be more thrilled. The injury stricken team has been suffering without him.

How would the proposed rule changes affect the Wings?

The GM meetings in Boca Roaton just recently wrapped up and GMs discussed some rule potential changes that on the surface, wouldn't largely affect the game. More relevant topics could have been discussed, like head shots, concussions, and the potential lockout that is staring everyone in the face. The speed of the game, head shots, and concussions all have seemed to increase since the 2004-2005 lockout (REVENUE has also increased too, every year, *cough*). The subtle point of revenue increasing is likely the reason there are only small rule changes being proposed, with the GMs likely thinking 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. As long as the game continues to...

Kings Batter Slumping Red Wings 5-2

With two wins in a row and twelve games to go, Los Angeles sits in tenth place in the Western Conference. (Photo by Andrew D. Bernstein/NHLI via Getty Images)

Less than a week after surrendering a late 3-2 lead against these same Detroit Red Wings, the Kings came out of the gates firing and dominated play for the majority of the clock’s sixty minutes. Five different Kings recorded the team’s five goals en route to a resounding 5-2 win Tuesday night at the Staples Center.

An injury-plagued Detroit team may have been just what the doctor ordered for L.A. The Red Wings are still playing without key contrib...

Injuries Are Mounting. Are you scared?

Lidstrom. Datsyuk. Howard. Bertuzzi. Ericsson. Kindl. Eaves. All banged up. Can the Detroit Red Wings win another Stanley Cup with their best defenseman, forward, and goalie out? Up until this point in the season, the Wings have been relatively healthy and have definitely played like it. Now, we are at a point where the “law of averages” has kicked in, and the once healthy Red Wings are starting to pile up injuries. Maybe the better question is, can the Wings win their division?

The Red Wings may play next with seven starters out of the lineup. That’s scary, even if we are talking about the 2002 Red Wings. Is this team getting old? Does Mike Babcock run them too ha...

Injury-Riddled Wings and Wild Meet Tonight

It's been four months since the Wings and Wild met, and much has changed since. Tonight's game (7:30 PM, Joe Louis Arena) will be their final matchup of the regular season. The Wild stormed out of the gate and held a top spot in the West until December, but have fallen to playoff bubble status since. Detroit overcame an inconsistent first quarter of the season and is mired in a gridlock with Vancouver, St. Louis and the New York Rangers for the top spot in the league.

Minnesota leads the season series 2-1 and 2 of the 3 games have gone to overtime. Mikko Koivu (1G, 2A) and Devin Setoguchi (1G, 1A) lead the Wild in points against Detroit. Ian White and Johan Franzen both have...

Should the Red Wings Have Traded for Jeff Carter?

When news broke that Pavel Datsyuk was out for 2-3 weeks from a minor knee surgery, everyone in Hockeytown panicked. After a few minutes, a few tweets, and a few deep breaths later, we were assured that Pav was going to be okay and in fact it was just a minor surgery. It was taken as a precaution so the Wings’ best player would be 100% come playoff time.

I’m not one to generally panic, since the Red Wings have been in stretches without their best players before. However, the Winged Wheel has had a great season going so far, and we are entering into a portion of the season where points are at a premium. We all saw what happened last year in Game 7 of the Western Conferenc...

It's Time to Rebound

The Red Wings seek to rebound with a stronger offensive effort tonight against Colorado. The Wings' power play has been anemic over the past 10 games, and they've only mustered 4 goals over the past two games. Mike Babcock wants to see more energy from his team and the Wings need to stop looking lost without Pavel Datsyuk in the lineup.

Detroit leads the season series 2-1, winning the first two games easily by scores of 3-0 and 5-2. Colorado won the most recent matchup in December 4-2. Johan Franzen leads the Wings in this series with 5 G, 0 A including a hat trick in the 5-2 win. Danny Cleary has 2 G, 2 A in the series. Gabriel Landeskog has put up 1 G, 2 A against Detroit ...

Last-Second Eurotwin Heroics Extend Streak

Tonight's game was a hard fought battle for two key points between division rivals. The game was close and had a playoff atmosphere. Before the game Detroit was ahead of Nashville by eight points but the Predators had a game in hand. Nashville was looking to catch St. Louis for second place in the Central and Detroit sought to put more space between them and 2nd seeded Vancouver. With the win Detroit extends their NHL record with their 22nd consecutive home win.

Detroit had the edge in performance and shots in the first, outshooting Nashville 14-9 in the opening period. Johan Franzen put Detroit on the board at 12:44 in the first with his team-leading 23rd goal off a spectacular...
