Pregame for 2/24/13: Hurricanes storm in to begin extended Isles' homestand

The Islanders begin a 7 game home stand tonight when Carolina storms into the Nassau Coliseum. New York has found a way to get back to winning ways and packing their bags may have been the medicine for their losing ways.

Fans have been frustrated with the fact that the team has not played well at home this year. Their league worst 2-6-0 record at home supports the notion that they are simply not playing up to par in front of the home fans.

For whatever reason, the Islanders have played much better on the road and even in losing efforts they just come across as a stronger team. They are truly fortunate that they have found ways to beat great teams in their own buildings marking down a 6-3-1 record away from Long Island.

Nothing Left To Prove, Ryan Strome Looks to Long Island Next Season

Hockey's Future considers Ryan Strome to be a prospect with a score of 8. What does that mean? Here is the description straight from their site:

"8. First-Line Forward/ No. 2 Defenseman / No. 1 Goaltender – players with definite skill that might be just a cut below elite status, but still possessing All-Star potential.

Canadian Awakening, Islanders Comeback Defeats Habs

As the Islanders took to the ice in Montreal, they tried to erase their losing ways of the past few weeks. Aside from two wins against the Rangers and Devils, the Isles have come up empty in every game as of late. Isles are 2-7-0 over their last 9 games before they took the ice against the streaking Habs.

Perhaps the Isles hit rock bottom during what we will refer to as an assassination of dignity and credibility. After falling flat in a lopsided 7-0 loss to the Flyers, they were attempting to get back to winning ways in Ottawa.

Unfortunately, the Isles were unable to get back in the win column falling 3-1. They were very much in the game but poor goaltending and key mistakes by DiPietro was their demise.

In danger of yet another significant losing streak, the Isles didn't start well against the Habs on the road.

Keeping up with a disturbing trend as of late, they continued to give up early goals. They were down 1-0 before they could even get their muscles loose.

Flyers Fly Past Islanders In A Record Setting Blowout

Today's game was a record setting affair. It was the worst home shut out loss in team history.

The Isles, wearing their black alternate sweaters, went down to defeat at the hands of the Flyers with a final score of 7-0. However, the game probably wasn't even that close.

Flyers Look to Clear the Long Faces in Long Island

The Flyers play the first of four meetings with the Islanders. They travel to the Coliseum where they look to cool off a hot John Tavares all while finding their attitude and emotion.

Presidential Pregame for 2/18/13: Islanders vs. Flyers

The Islanders (6-7-1) look to build on their 2 game winning streak when Philadelphia (6-9-1) skates into the Nassau Coliseum for a President's Day matinee. Is there a better way to honor the great American presidents than pitting Philadelphia against New York?

After looking lost for 5 games and losing in an assortment of ways, the Isles have returned to relevance. The fans have taken their hand off of the panic button. Over the past two games, the Islanders have looked like a different team.

After coming out flat in Thursday's game against the Rangers, the Isles looked set on making their losing streak hit 6. Falling behind 2-0, in enemy territory, against a talented Ranger team, the game looked hopeless. But during the first intermission, something happened behind closed doors.

Where Does John Tavares Rank?

John Tavares, the former 1st overall pick in the 2009 draft and current savior of the Islanders franchise... where does he rank right now on the list of the best players in the game?

The league right now is filled with a ton of great players and I for one believe that Tavares fits right in with them.

Tavares Hat Trick Leads Isles 5-1 Triumph Over New Jersey

The Islanders hosted fellow Atlantic Divison rivals, the New Jersey Devils, on Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum. The Isles evened up the season series at two-a-piece in another explosive game by John Tavares and the lethal power play unit.

Tavares led the way through this one, scoring his 4th career hat trick and adding an assist to the 5-1 win over New Jersey. Matt Moulson assisted on all three of Tavares’ goals, in addition to scoring one of his own, giving both of them 4-point games. (Photo Credit: T.J. Weber/The Checking Line)

Islanders Quarterly Check In

The Islanders are just slightly past the quarter mark of the season after playing their 13th game of the year last night against the New York Rangers. They skated to a 4-3 shootout victory to give them a 5-7-1 record.

Five of the Islanders top-six forwards have been producing from the start of the year. John Tavares has 16 points in 13 games, trailed by Matt Moulson with 13 and Brad Boyes with 10. Frans Nielsen has quietly put up nine points in the games that have been played, while Michael Grabner has seven.

Has Jack Capuano Lost The Team?

This is not an attack on the man. This is not a damnation of Jack Capuano. Don't take this article as creating a scapegoat for the Islanders' recent five game slide. There is only so much that the coaching staff can do and the rest lies within the players who make big money to execute.

Simply put, the Islanders are not executing. During this losing streak, they are able to right one aspect of their game at the expense of another. For example, the Islanders could not score yet Evgeni Nabokov found a way to make ridiculous saves. Now the Islanders have recently found their scoring touch again and they can't keep the puck out of their own net. (Photo Credit: Flickr/Robert Krowal)

It is this type of losing streak that makes Isles fans want to pull the hair out of their head. They literally are losing in every way imaginable. Creativity is something they do not lack when finding ways to lose.
