Hawks fall to Wings in SO; face division-rival Wild Thursday

The Red Wings and the Blackhawks met again on Wednesday night, and though the two teams are now in different conferences and meet just twice a year, the rivalry was as intense as ever. The Red Wings came from behind to secure the win in a thrilling 5-4 SO victory, with Darren Helm scoring the deciding goal in the shootout.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead at 8:41 of the first, when Marian ...

Game Preview: Isles Look to Play A Full 60 Against The Wings

The Islanders (10-20-7) come limping into this contest, desperate for a win, after failing to record a victory in 14 of their last 16 games. The Wings have not been too successful themselves of late as they have been completely ravaged by injuries. Detroit (17-12-9) is just 3-5-2 in their last 10 games and their normally strong home ice advantage is anything but with a record of 6-9-6.

Postgame 11/16: Red Wings @ Islanders

The Islanders overcame the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout.

Wings Find Themselves Late, Rally past Coyotes

There was speculation that, after the elation of the 2-game sweep of the Ducks in Anaheim, Detroit may suffer a hangover of sorts as they entered Jobing.com Arena for their matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes. To an extent, the speculators may have been right, but fans were treated to a welcome sight, as Detroit managed to rally from a temporary meltdown and battle back to claim their third straight win, defeating Phoenix 3-2.

Despite Showing Fight, Detroit Falls Prey to Nashville

The Wings may not have been victorious, but if they were one thing they were certainly determined.

Detroit fell into a 2-0 deficit early in the game, but managed to claw their way to a 3-3 tie before the end of regulation. What little luck The Red Wings had found ran dry shortly thereafter though, as Predator captain Shea Weber capitalized on a bad defensive decision and a fortunate bounce, scoring the OT winner to finish off Detroit 4-3.

Wings Looking for a Second Chance vs Stars

It was just one week ago that the Wings fell short to the Stars at their home opener on Tuesday, January 22nd. The Wings are looking for a second chance to prove themselves against the Stars and take 2 points tonight, which, speaking from a bruised Wngs fan, is much needed after that Chicago game. Catch the game tonight at 7:30pm.

The Blues' Clues: What St. Louis taught Detroit in Season Opener

Well now, that was...something. That was definitely something.

What -it- was, sadly, was the Red Wings' first game of the season against the highly touted St. Louis Blues, and boy was it a stinker. Detroit came into this opening game with all the same question marks that loomed before and during the lockout. By the time the game was over, those question marks just hovered a little more menacingly over the head of Hockeytown. With five special teams goals--four on the power-play and one short-handed--the Blues absolutely handed it to Detroit this evening, cruising along to a 6-0 victory.

Flyers Drub Toronto, 7-1

Toronto Maple Leafs starting goalie Jonas Gustavsson took a puck to the leg in Thursday’s warm-ups. Gustavsson laid sprawled out on the ice and was forced to leave the ice before the game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Once the puck dropped, the Flyers added insult to his injury.

Brayden Schenn opened the scoring just 5:34 into the game with a rifled shot past backup Jussi Rynnas. Schenn’s first shot was blocked, and moments later fired off a Wayne Simmonds assist.

He added another goal less than six minutes later on the power play. As the man advantage wound down, Daniel Briere found Schenn on a two-on-one. The rookie easily beat Rynnas for his 11th goal of the season.

Flyers, Bobrobvsky Look To Grab Two Precious Points From Leafs

The Philadelphia Flyers (44-24-8) will enter tonight's game without something they have relied on heavily recently, a hot goaltender.

As has been reported this week, Ilya Bryzgalov will not be with the team tonight when they travel up to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs (33-35-9).

Bryzgalov suffered a bone chip on a weight bearing bone in his foot when he took a Jakub Voracek shot off his skate in warm-ups before the Flyers faced the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

Everything Is Clicking for the Flyers Going Down the Stretch

It’s hard to believe that there are only 16 games left in the regular season.

This is the point where those on the cusp decide their fate, and those locked in begin to look ahead to the postseason.

The Philadelphia Flyers (38-21-7) currently sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference and will most likely be heading to the playoffs.

Despite a drastically different roster than last season’s and countless injuries throughout the lineup, the team has been in the mix since the start of the season.
