Blackhawks home stretch report card: Fine-tuning before the playoffs

There is no better time to be thankful that all the armchair GMs aren't real GMs than directly after a tough loss right before the trade deadline.

Monday night on Twitter, as the Blackhawks walked out of a lackluster game with a 5-4 loss to the LA Kings, whom they had previously dominated earlier in the season, all the usual suggestions came out. So-and-so should go back to Rockford. So-and-so is dead weight this season and should be traded. (If he's such dead weight, who else is going to want him?) So-and-so isn't getting it done. In exchange, fans are looking for every high-profile player out there, future salary concerns be ignored.

In a season like ...

Blackhawks Down: Chicago drops second straight to visiting Los Angeles Kings

Dustin Brown scored his twelfth goal of the season with under two minutes remaining to hand the Chicago Blackhawks (24-4-3) their fourth regulation loss of the season in a wild affair that saw the Blackhawks surrender three one-goal leads.

The victory put Los Angeles (18-12-2) ahead of the idle St. Louis Blues for sixth place in the crowded Western Conference race, and moved them within striking distance of division-leading Anaheim. The Kings currently sit ten points back of a suddenly struggling Ducks team with sixteen to play. With two of those remaining games coming against Anaheim, it’s not inconceivable to think that last year’s Stanley Cup Champio...

CHI @ ANA Game Recap1/20/13 Blackhawks Drown in the Duck Pond  In a game that lived up to its hype the league leading Chicago Blackhawks fell 4-2 to the second place Anaheim Ducks who now trail the Windy City team by only 3 points in the Western Conference.  The Ducks drew first blood with a quick goal by center Peter Holland less than 2 minutes into play.  The Hawks were almost immediately sent to the penalty kill against the most successful power play unit in the league, but a fantastic short-handed goal via Jonathan Toews brought those first five minutes of heart attack to an end all tied up 1-1.  After a very forgettable Blackhawk...

Blackhawks get revenge from Avalanche

Blackhawks romp to 8-1 win over Stars in Dallas

The Blackhawks are clearly ready to start another winning streak, as they took their second win in a row, this one an 8-1 romp over the Stars on Dallas ice.

It took Chicago more than six minutes to get their first recorded SOG, but after that, the floodgates were opened - the Blackhawks would outshoot the Stars 11-3 in the first period. Three of those would be goals: Jonathan Toews opened the scoring at 9:05, a redirect off a Leddy shot. Toews would score again under two minutes later to give Chicago a 2-0 lead; and then Nick Leddy shoveled in a goal on the Dallas doorstep to make it 3-0 with 2:06 left in the period.

Although the Blackhawks didn't score again unt...

CHI v COL - Post Game Recap3/6/13 Chicago brings down the Avalanche 3-2 at home.  Chicago fans were a bit confused to hear Dan Carcillo announced as the starting right wing for the Blackhawks on Wednesday night's matchup against apparent rival the Colorado Avalanche, but his game winning goal with 49 seconds left in regulation and joyous celly made the UC crowd go crazy.  The Chicago Blackhawks, now 21-0-3 have three, yes three, historic streaks following them through their unstoppable season. Blackhawks win over Blue Jackets in OT; streak extended to 21

It may not have been Chicago's prettiest effort, but they still came away with the win.

The Blue Jackets were resting and ready to face the Blackhawks on Friday night. Chicago came home on the flip side of a back-to-back, having gotten a win in St. Louis last night.

Columbus has its share of injuries - the most recent occuring just today during morning skate, when Chicago native John Moore suffered an upper body injury. Defenseman Dalton Prout was called up from CBJ's AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons at midday. His flight was delayed and landed at O'Hare at 6:40pm - less than an hour til puck drop. He made it to the United Center in time to g...

Blackhawks Host Blue Jackets; Look to Extend Points Streak to 21 Games

CHI vs CBJ03/01/20137:30pm CST The streaking Chicago Blackhawks (17-0-3) square off against the eternally mismanaged Columbus Blue Jackets (5-12-3) for the second time in six days tonight in Chicago's United Center, and one would expect the Madhouse on Madison to be rocking after the Red, White, and Black's decisive 3-0 road victory over division rival St. Louis last night. Captain Jonathan Toews led off the scoring in last night's affair just twelve seconds into the game and added another tally early in the third for his first points since he posted a goal and an assist on February 17th against the LA Kings. With Chicago continuing to fire on all cylinde...
